  1. this is going to be a hot topic!!
  2. Beautiful work, thats a real nice version of that car. Looks like you got the stance just right.... Spraying a little clear dull-coat on the chrome wheels would give em a brushed aluminum look of the old centerline wheels that seem to be on the 1:1 car... In any case, thats a super nice job you did on the model.
  3. Hey, hey, now......at least I tried to make this thread worth clicking on....... You gotta admit hot babes are alot better than band aids, cutting up leather gloves, out of scale detailing, false claims, and fake chrome spray paint......
  4. Bring on the leather babes!!......on second thought, I think I've kicked this thread around pretty good as is. I don't want overdo it with the chic pics...Gregg may step in and issue an encroachment warning....besides, I've got 4 different projects to get back to. This has been fun guys, but I'm turning the driver's seat back over to Treehugger-Dave.... This was his thread and he is the one who needs to step up to the plate to do some explaining and answer the big questions.... Happy modeling to all......cheers!!
  5. I have to agree here. I'm quite interested to read the Treehugger's answers to some of these questions that have been asked, but unfortunately he looks to have exited stage left in a hurry, after the proverbial curtain was pulled open on his "wizard of oz" impersonations...leaving him a bit exposed, unprepared, and perhaps somewhat embarrassed.
  6. I suppose you could call it a humerous use of a word.... In all seriousness, this thread was sort of destined to fail since the clinician seemed to be poorly prepared to give a clear and concise instructional tutorial and was just not ready to conduct a tough question and answer session. It sort of seemed to me as a "self-backpatting" exercise for the TS in a way.....Kinda dangling the bait and then pulling it away after at the first few nibbles.
  7. Very well put.... I did think the leather tutorial had some potential, especially for the larger scale modelers who have more room to negotiate scale fidelity, but for 1/24-1/25 the leather stuff is grossly out of scale.......it's cool to see somebody fabricate that stuff, but it's still severely out of scale. I'm more intrigued by the mystery chrome however, since that topic can apply to the masses. Us modelers are always looking for chrome alternatives no matter what scale we work in, but I have a feeling that this secret chrome nonsense is just that.......Nonsense. The images posted did look a little shiney but a bit more like polished aluminum rather than chrome.. As far as the claim of inventing the airbrush and scratchbuilding parts [that are apparantly mass produced kit parts], leaves alot to be desired as well. If your going to make big claims such as these, you had better be ready to get called on them, especially by experienced builders.....besides, any good clinic or seminar usually ends with a vigorous question and answer session....If nobody asks any questions how is anything supposed to be learned? I guess a snake oil salesman needs to carefully pic his customers, otherwise things are not going to go well......especially if the customers are more experienced than the salesman.
  8. Yup, quite true....quite true.... Seems that the CONTRADICTION force is strong on this thread.....
  9. See, here we go again with the "poor Treehugger-Dave was beat up and abused", routine.... Come on already......Nobody attacked Dave. A couple of experienced builders asked some tough questions in regards to Dave's bold claims of inventing a chrome system and an airbrush....nothing more. I think some of you guys are really reading too much into this.
  10. Hey, at least I invented a lathe for those on a limited budget!!.... [a dremel secured in a bench vise]....
  11. Careful what you wish for....the way this thread has been going, his cameo appearance here may not be too far off!!....
  12. I don't think the tutorial will ever get completed, because it never really got off the ground very well.... What was posted seemed a bit evasive and incomplete. The topic had some potential but wasn't presented very well at all. If you're going to present a tutorial about something, you should never tell the audience to go and "do the footwork and detective work themselves"......A good tutorial should explain EVERYTHING!!.........DUH!!....that's why it's called a TUTORIAL!! I dunno, this whole thing seemed like an ego stroking session for the Topic Starter. It's interesting to note that the TS hasn't been back to answer any of the honest questions that were asked.......What kind of good teacher or tutor does that?.... Runs away from the questions put forth from the class or students? This whole thread is a fail......
  13. Thanks for the comments guys, I'll try and post a little more in the next few weeks or so. I'm sort of bouncing around between several projects at once, so the updates have been a little slow on this one.
  14. I like the lowered stance, although you wouldn't want to drive it around my home town........We have way too many potholes and ruts everywhere..... You'd likely end up carrying what's left of your front suspension home in the back of a tow truck...
  15. Beautiful work, the details look great!! Nice clean plumbing and wiring.
  16. Well said. I've looked over this entire thread and I don't see any serious attacks on Treehugger. There are a couple of firm questions being asked by a couple of the fellas, and there are a few responses here and there that indicate a bit of irritation, but there's no real fighting going on to speak of..... Mr. Morton and Mr. Jones are hardly what I'd call trolls looking for trouble. They are both top notch, experienced builders that have asked some legitimate questions in regards to Treehugger-Dave's strong claims of developing a secret chroming process and some of the parts he alleged that are scratchbuilt, [that in fact turned out not to be the case].
  17. Who got beat up?........David and Mark pointed out a few discrepencies with Dave's claims and asked a couple of questions that some may consider as "delicate", but I didn't really see any serious verbal abuse of anyone here.........Perhaps a few here are over reacting?....yes?
  18. Who would have thought that a thread about cutting up leather gloves and an alleged secret chroming process would have caused such a disturbance amongst our modeling brethren.............
  19. Thanks for tips guys..... I think painting the top is the way to go. I've seen some fabrics and tapes used to simulate the tops, but they looked a little sloppy and are a bit out of scale. I just saw a model by Juha Airo that he did a vinyl top on, just using paints and evergreen strips that looked darn good...in fact it looked just like a 1:1 top.....I may have to practice with different angles and distances, and hopefully I'll get a technique established......
  20. Um George, David Morton and Mark Jones can out-build just about anyone on this board or any other board for that matter, [give or take a few other "big names" here and there].....I didn't get the impression that they are jealous of anything. They just asked some interesting questions that "Treehugger" chose to dodge and evade.... Aw shucks, I guess the Hugger's secret chrome plating tricks won't be disclosed to us now..... ....Oh well, back to the boring old alclad paint...*sigh*
  21. I agree....this chrome plating topic and technique is going to draw a much bigger audience than the leather interior stuff........ I'm also quite interested in a step by step tutorial....From what I can see, the finish looks ok, but there seems to be a "sprinkle effect" on some of the pieces...perhaps it's just the lighting? Looks like Dave is going to have to elaborate a bit more here....Too many unanswered questions.... crisper, sharper pics could also help as well.
  22. Hi everybody, I'm interested in trying to replicate a vinyl roof on a 69 Camaro project I'm working on. If you guys have any tips, tricks, and suggestions, I'd love to read about it and even better if possible, [see them]!!.......If you've got some good images, please feel free to post em up, and elaborate. Thanks in advance for the assistance.
  23. The transmission is scratchbuilt from k&s aluminum, and the rear tubs, firewall, and chassis pan, are all scratchbuilt from evergreen sheet. The seat has been hand shaped from aluminum sheet and polished out, and features a foam padding insert......For this particluar project, I'll be fabricating just about everything from scratch.
  24. Here's a little project I've been screwing around with......I'm currently doing all the body modifications and have just attached the window channels......Lots more trimming and sanding to do, but here's a little peek at where things stand as of now. I'm still undecided on an engine but I have considered using the 427 "sohc motor" in the background, although I may go ahead and use a more modern style supercharged hemi....It's all up in the air right now.... Lots more to come.......
  25. A little more progress.........
