The rules for building Box Stock in the Club Challenge state that I can correct any manufacturers defects and while the shape of the part has a slight taper to it, it is not really a manufacturers defect and therefore, cannot be altered. You really have to look at the part to see the taper and once painted, decaled and installed, the taper does not show.

Thank you Ray! The tapered canister was part of the kit and I can't change it. I have to use what's in the box. Thank you Michael, but I already knew that primer color can change the shade of your basecoat.

I got tired of polishing my Bullitt Mustang and the '70 Charger R/T, so I decided to start a little assembly of the 409 CID engine. One thing I didn't like about this engine was that the oil filter was moulded with the oil pan. I used a P/E saw and removed the oil filter. More to come...

You did a great job on your Bullitt Mustang, Steve!

This build is looking great! Keep going!

I set my dehydrator at 105 degrees for at least 4 hours. More depending on which paint I use.

Thank you David! There will be more to come!

Douglas, I hope you can see that my Bullitt Mustang has been painted with Highland Green Metallic paint from Scalefinishes. Thanks for the tips!

I fired up the paintbooth for some clearcoating this morning. I got two mist coats, one medium coat and one wet coat of clear on. These will be going into the dehydrator shortly. More to come...

Absolutely Ray! Quality, not quantity!

Thanks Greg! I usually post three pics at a time. I'm not one of those people who takes a pic, move a few degrees and take another pic, move a few degrees and take another pic, etc, etc, etc. Hopefully, when I do take a picture of will include what I have done to the model at that time.

I was influenced by David G. and his 1971 Dodge Charger to pull this '71 Hemi Charger R/T off the shelf, clean it up, and take some pictures of it. This is the AMT '71 Charger R/T built about 10 years ago with some changes. It is painted with Model Master Green-Go lacquer paint with a white bucket seat interior with 4-speed Hurst Pistol-Grip Shifter, console and "Tuff" steering wheel. I replaced the kit wheels and tires with a larger set of wheels from a Monogram Plymouth, wide Goodyear tires from my parts box, and a Ross Gibson 426 Hemi engine donated by a good friend of mine, and aluminium tubing for exhaust tips. The front wheels were re-located to correctly space them in the wheel wells.

Looks great, but the shifter is backwards!

Thanks David! My first thought was that the color would be too dark as I have seen several pictures of this color all labeled as Flame Red. The color varied from a bright red to a maroon and I wasn't too sure about the paint until I tried it on a spoon. This is the color for this Chevy!

Every year, the Classic Plastic Model Club holds a Club Challenge for our annual Club Exhibition in October. This year it is box stock with any finish you want. My project for the Club Challenge will be the Lindberg 1961 Chevrolet Impala SS 409. My paint will be Model Master Flame Red with a matching red and white interior. I did a spray out on a plastic spoon to get a sense of what the color actually was, since I have seen several shades that range from bright red to almost a maroon and they are referred to as Flame Red. The color is a little dark, but I like it. Time to start is now. If I wait until the last minute, it'll never get done. More to come...

A friend of mine owns a 1:1 '69 Hurst/Olds and he says the wheels are suppose to be grey. He thinks that either gold wheels were an option or those owners painted their wheels gold to match the striping.

I've been working on the '70 Charger R/T. I got the body foiled with the toughest part being the rear window. I finished wiring the Hemi. Now to work on the air cleaner. More to come...
-
I've got the body in a stripper solution of Easy Off. Once I get the old clear off, I can prime and paint.
-
I've got a "Play Date" tomorrow. I'll finish the Hemi and start foiling.
-
Thank you Jeremy! The paint still smells a little bit, but not as bad as before I put it into the dehydrator. Now it on to foiling.
-
I got the body painted and now for a little cleanup of some trash that found its way into the paint. If I sand the finish, I'll have to repaint the body. If I can remove the trash with my fingernail, I may not have to repaint. We shall see. A view of the interior. More to come...

I finally got the Bullitt Mustang into a couple coats of Tamiya Grey Primer. I have a couple of minor blemishes to sand out. The hood was also primered and I usually start spraying paint under the hood to see how the paint will react. This is my first time using Scalefinishes paint and it sprayed out very nicely. I thought that the color might have been too dark, but this is very close to what I was hoping for. A couple more coats and the color will be perfect! More to come...
