Thanks David! My first thought was that the color would be too dark as I have seen several pictures of this color all labeled as Flame Red. The color varied from a bright red to a maroon and I wasn't too sure about the paint until I tried it on a spoon. This is the color for this Chevy!

Every year, the Classic Plastic Model Club holds a Club Challenge for our annual Club Exhibition in October. This year it is box stock with any finish you want. My project for the Club Challenge will be the Lindberg 1961 Chevrolet Impala SS 409. My paint will be Model Master Flame Red with a matching red and white interior. I did a spray out on a plastic spoon to get a sense of what the color actually was, since I have seen several shades that range from bright red to almost a maroon and they are referred to as Flame Red. The color is a little dark, but I like it. Time to start is now. If I wait until the last minute, it'll never get done. More to come...

A friend of mine owns a 1:1 '69 Hurst/Olds and he says the wheels are suppose to be grey. He thinks that either gold wheels were an option or those owners painted their wheels gold to match the striping.

I've been working on the '70 Charger R/T. I got the body foiled with the toughest part being the rear window. I finished wiring the Hemi. Now to work on the air cleaner. More to come...

I've got the body in a stripper solution of Easy Off. Once I get the old clear off, I can prime and paint.
-
I've got a "Play Date" tomorrow. I'll finish the Hemi and start foiling.
-
Thank you Jeremy! The paint still smells a little bit, but not as bad as before I put it into the dehydrator. Now it on to foiling.

I got the body painted and now for a little cleanup of some trash that found its way into the paint. If I sand the finish, I'll have to repaint the body. If I can remove the trash with my fingernail, I may not have to repaint. We shall see. A view of the interior. More to come...

I finally got the Bullitt Mustang into a couple coats of Tamiya Grey Primer. I have a couple of minor blemishes to sand out. The hood was also primered and I usually start spraying paint under the hood to see how the paint will react. This is my first time using Scalefinishes paint and it sprayed out very nicely. I thought that the color might have been too dark, but this is very close to what I was hoping for. A couple more coats and the color will be perfect! More to come...

I washed the parts of my '89 Firebird GTA this morning. As you can see, the enamel clearcoat has yellowed over time. Don Yost says that enamel clearcoat won't yellow so what is his method of adding enamel clearcoat? When this is dry, I'll paint the body parts with primer and then with white paint. I'll have to dig through my paints and pick out a white paint for the GTA. More to come...

Hi Thomas! I believe both kits are basically the same, except mine came with ignition wires to be installed. I'll just wash the body and interior, then paint the body white and clean and re-paint everything else. Thanks!

Thank you Adam! Been working on the Hemi. I need to find a Hemi wiring diagram and I can finish wiring the engine. I'm not 100% happy with the plumbing of the carbs and I may remove the forward pipe and rearch it. A quick mockup to see how the Charger is progressing. More to come...

I found this long forgotten Firebird GTA that is in dire need of a rebuild...or I just needed another distraction. LOL This I believe was the High Performance Series kit since the Buick V-6 engine is wired and plumbed and I didn't do that unless the necessary parts were in the kit. Anyway, this Firebird GTA will be blown apart, rechromed, repainted, and rebuilt. This is probably another one of those models that I originally built in a weekend. Once I take the model apart, everything will be washed, inventoried, and refinished. The wheel rims will need to be rechromed. I never painted the model, but I did clearcoat it with enamel clearcoat which has yellowed over time. I always thought the Firebird GTA looked great in white, but I may paint it another color. More to come...

Thanks David! The idea here was to chrome what is known as a "horn ring". This sits on top of the three spokes of the steering wheel. The three spokes on the steering wheel itself are solid with no holes whatsoever. If this was an aftermarket steering wheel, I would drill the holes. This is a stock steering wheel.

Thank you Jeremy!

Now this is the way a Hurst Pistol-Grip Shifter is suppose to be painted! You always leave a chrome strip up the back of the shift handle and a chrome top. I've detailed the steering wheel. I should have put a dot of flat black in the spokes which I did after I noticed my flub up. And, the rear taillights are done! More to come...

Thanks everyone! Stephen, I'm glad to see that you are still around and doing well! While I am not a fan of flat color bodies, that does sound like a neat project! Git-R-Dun! I sat down at the bench a short while ago and picked up my 1mm Molotow Liquid Chrome Pen and started picking out the chrome details before I start applying decals to the dash and console later. More to come...

I painted the interior this afternoon with Dupli-Color Light Blue Metallic and tossed everything into the dehydrator for a few hours. Then, I painted the body, hood, and front valance panel with Testors Star Spangled Blue Lacquer. More to come...

Thank you Thomas!

The chassis is now complete. I added overspray which has been difficult with a spray can for me and the front and rear suspensions. I'll leave the brakes and wheels and tires off until the body and chassis are together. The Hemi is in progress. The carbs, fan clutch, and the alternator are being stripped of their chrome with Easy-Off Oven Cleaner. I have distributors from Parts By Parks and Morgan Automotive Detail to decide on. Which one will it be? More to come...

I bought those wheels and tires from Steven Zimmerman at the 2018 NNL East show. He does not have a web site, but he can be contacted through his Face Book page.
-
Thank you Tom! Those wheels look like large Magnum 500 wheels which is why I choose them.

I did some digging around a found a set of wheels and tires from a Revell '32 Ford that would work with this Mustang. I kept the front disc brakes and painted them aluminium with flat black calipers. I've been adding detail here and there to the chassis and I made a set of seat belts for the front bucket seats. One of the things about this chassis that I don't like is the screws used to hold the chassis and the interior in. I found a piece of round styrene that will fit the screw hole and cover the screw when all is assembled. More to come...

What's the extra shifter for?
mrmike replied to MeatMan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A separate shifter as a reverse lockout. This prevents reverse being engaged accidentally while racing. -
Some progress on the '70 Charger. I painted the Hemi with Mopar Street Hemi Engine Paint and the chassis and floor pan bottom got a coat of grey primer and then placed in the dehydrator for 4 hours. While those are in the dehydrator, I washed the hood and body with Dawn detergent. I painted some engine and suspension parts. More to come...
