  1. This is my '48 Woody Street Rod. It is painted with Testors Colors By Boyd-Boyd Red with Model Master Flat interior Tan interior. The Wood grain is replicated with hand brushed Model Master Wood paint and the kit decals and clearcoated with Model Master Acryl Gloss Clear. The engine is from the Revell '50 Ford Pickup featuring Ardun heads and three chromed carbs. The suspension and exhaust is from the Revell '48 Ford Custom Coupe.
  2. Thanks guys for support! The Woody is back together! I completed the dash and installed it into the interior. I installed the interior, floor pan and chassis into the body then I cleared the woodgrain with gloss clear and foiled the fender and hood trim. And, to prevent any future diasters, I bought a new model carrier for $9.00 at Home Depot last Sunday. 19" long and plenty of room for models and emergency repair products can go into the separate tray on top. More to come...
  3. Thanks guys! Brian, I would have like to have staggered the tire sizes, but I don't have any wider whitewall tires in my stash. It is what it is and I am OK with that. I took the Woody to my model club meeting on Saturday and the Woody got lots of notice. After the meeting, I packed everything up and started to leave when my model carrier decided to dump everything out onto the concrete steps. The Woody hit the steps and dislodged the front axle, chassis and interior from the body. Two of the carbs had come off and there was no damage to the paint since I had wrapped the model loosely in a towel! I have everything back together now and will move forward with assembly. Sunday morning I went out a bought a 19" long tool box from Home Depot for my new model carrier.
  4. Thanks Carl and James! I foiled the windshield and starting installing the windows all around. Save for a few details, the interior is mostly complete. A quick mockup to check the stance. This is starting to look like the Woody I have dreamed of! More to come...
  5. Harts Parts Resin has a '70 Duster grille made to fit the '71 Duster kit. http://www.hartspartsresin.com/resin-parts-list/amt
  6. The Story McNally grabs one of the suspects and drags him out to the backyard sets him on his knees and says, "Who do you work for?" The man says nothing and McNally pulls back the slide on his gun and aims it at the suspect's head and repeats the question. The suspect starts to cry and begs for his life and tells McNally the he works for Roberto Solaros. McNally drags the suspect back into the house, cuffed and ready for transport to BPD headquarters. He confers with Lt. Adam Troy who says, "I'll take my suspect downtown and question him. Hopefully he'll give me the same name as you got from yours." "I'm heading up to Solaros' house in Marblehead and I'll sit on the place until I hear from you," says McNally. The Build I repainted the Viper this morning. I'm not 100% happy with it, but it is a lot better than it was before. McNally will return...
  7. Masked off the body for hopefully the last time to paint the top. Sprayed the top with Tamiya TS-6 Matt Black. I must have masked it correctly since there is no over spray anywhere. The floor pan was coated with white glue and embossing powder then painted with Model Master Flat Interior Tan and the front floor mat was painted with Tamiya X-18 Semi-Gloss Black. More to come...
  8. Thanks Bruce and Carl! Carl, I did brush paint the wood trim by hand. I spent the evening hand painting more parts and pieces. I freehand painted the wood trim on the glass pieces which turned out better than I had hoped for. I masked the floorboard for embossing powder and started masking the body to paint the roof matt black. More to come...
  9. I finally had a chance to sit down at the bench this evening and work on the Woody. I bought some Model Master Wood paint this past weekend and painted the wood grain on the body. I still have to paint the interior wood panels as well. I'll add the darker wood decals and then clear the wood paneling with either gloss or semi-gloss clear. More to come...
  10. Thanks Bill, Jonathan, and Carl! Bill, while I usually build factory stock or near factory stock muscle cars, I figured that there had to be a somewhat simple way to get the Ardun heads to fit within the Woody's narrow engine compartment. This seems to be a logically choice to me. Well, I think I am finally ready for painting the body. I've been putting this off for a week now due to all the masking that is needed. Since this took me a good hour to do, I'm going to post pictures of my handy work. More to come...
  11. Thanks Fabrizio and Carl! Carl, the basic kit is a good one, but don't forget that this is a kitbash from two other kits. I may start on the '49 Merc Woody after this one is complete. I finished the engine this morning. I even found an oval air cleaner in the parts box that I painted with Alclad II Chrome paint. I need to adjust the plug boots before installing the body. More to come...
  12. Thanks Charlie! I mocked up the headers for the Ardun Ford and they hung way too low and didn't come anywhere near the exhaust system. I thought about a possible solution and this is what I did. I measured the distance from the exhaust to the headers and I cut that amount from the first header pipe and made slightly shorter cuts in the second and third pipe leaving the fourth pipe connected to the header flange. I glued and clamped the pipes back to the header flange and after they dried, they lined up perfectly. I mocked up the wheels with the nearly completed chassis for a look. I like it! I need to finish the engine and chassis. More to come...
  13. Thanks Bill and Charlie! A chance to paint some parts this morning. I pre-assembled much of the suspension and painted them semi-gloss black. The floor pan got another coat of Boyd Red. I assembled the wheels and tires. I think the wide whitewalls will look great on this Woody! More to come...
  14. Thanks Michael!
  15. Thanks Mike!
  16. Thanks Michael and Charlie!
  17. Thanks guys! I'm here whenever Liam is ready to build another model. In a couple of years, maybe we can build a glue kit together.
  18. Thanks guys! I think the engine compartment will work now that I have widen it. I could have gone wider or even removed the side panels altogether. I think it would be best to leave them in. The engine has been painted with Tamiya TS-49 Bright Red. The heads will have the plug holes drilled out and given a liberal coating of Dullcoat to knock down the shine of the chrome. I primered the body parts this morning and painted the hood this afternoon. The Body requires a little more sanding. I painted the floor pan and the wheels. More to come...
  19. Charlie, I just love redoing paint flub ups...NOT!!! Carl, it depends upon the paint used. For the Viper, I left it soaking for a week. I use the Fume-Free. The Story The afternoon TV talk show is interrupted by a special report news report from TV6 News. A brief interview with newscaster Derek Jemmings and Judge Augustus Darpolos. The interview centers on the Judge's decision to leave the bench and his arrest by the Boston Police on charges of murder. The Judge states he did not commit any murder and is cooperating fully with the Police. He was released from custody after paying a hefty bail. The red Viper arrives at the home of Judge Augustus Darpolos and pulls into the garage with automatic garage closing after the Viper had pulled in. He gets out of the Viper and goes into the house, stopping at the front door to pick up the mail and then proceeding into the kitchen. He pours himself a drink of scotch and soda and heads upstairs to the bedroom. After 20 minutes, the bedroom lights go off. Half an hour later, two masked men wearing all black, enter the house. Each are carrying a silenced Beretta 92 and they silently go up the stairs to the bedroom, quietly open the door and walk in. They both open fire into the Judge's bed emptying their guns and then they quietly walk out only to be surrounded by The Police and McNally, yelling for them to drop their guns. The Build After a week of soaking in Easy-Off Oven Cleaner, a quick scrubbing with a scouring pad got me this. During the process of scrubbing, I broke the windshield frame. This is an easy fix, but I have to be extra careful while handling the body. McNally will return...
  20. I showed this thread to Liam and he says thanks! This was a great project for both of us and I'm sure that 'Vette will get a lot of carpet miles put on it, too! Now I have to find a birdhouse kit for my granddaughter and I to build together.
  21. Thanks guys! After looking at the pictures, I have found a few flaws with the foil and the decals. I'm going to go and correct those flaws shortly. I have plans for building another one as soon as I can procure the necessary components for a 1970 'Cuda 340 convertible that was once driven a TV detective known as Mannix!
  22. Thanks guys! I've been looking at a way to be able to fit the Ardun headed engine into the engine compartment of the '48 Woody. I found a solution...move the inner fenders. I studied the instructions and compared part fitment and locations. I hope this works! I started by using the backside of my hobby knife with a chisel blade and scribed a 7/8 ths inch line along the inner fender. I didn't want to remove the entire inner fender, just score enough so I can move the inner fender over to make room for the engine. Wow!!! It fits! More to come...
  23. My grandson Liam turned 4 years old earlier this month and I got him a Revell Snap Tite '63 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe as a special project for him and Papa to build. My daughter and the grandkids came over today for Easter and Liam brought along his Corvette kit and telling me, "Let's build this now." Well, I told him it would have to wait a little bit and we can build it together after breakfast. We sat down later together to build the kit and I explained the kit and all the various parts in the kit and that we had to follow the instructions or the 'Vette wouldn't go together. His impatience was getting to get the better of him as he told me several times, "This is taking forever!" Patience is not one of his better traits, but at this early age, one that can be worked on. I did my best to keep him on track and we finished the Corvette in about 30 minutes or so. My granddaughter came over to me afterwards and expressed an interest in a project for her and myself to do together. I am so happy as I am finally getting my grandkids interested in model building as they have been in Papa's model cave and they are always asking questions about my projects. And, another excuse to go to the hobby shop!
  24. Thanks guys! I have finished my '70 'Cuda 383 and it is posted in Under Glass. I would like to thank all those who viewed and commented on my WIP.
  25. I have finished my '70 Plymouth 'Cuda 383. It is painted with Model Master GreenGo aka Sassy Grass Green with a white interior with semigloss black accents. The 383 came from my parts box and the tires were lettered with Shabo Tire Graphics.
