  1. Thanks Charlie! I mocked up the headers for the Ardun Ford and they hung way too low and didn't come anywhere near the exhaust system. I thought about a possible solution and this is what I did. I measured the distance from the exhaust to the headers and I cut that amount from the first header pipe and made slightly shorter cuts in the second and third pipe leaving the fourth pipe connected to the header flange. I glued and clamped the pipes back to the header flange and after they dried, they lined up perfectly. I mocked up the wheels with the nearly completed chassis for a look. I like it! I need to finish the engine and chassis. More to come...
  2. Thanks Bill and Charlie! A chance to paint some parts this morning. I pre-assembled much of the suspension and painted them semi-gloss black. The floor pan got another coat of Boyd Red. I assembled the wheels and tires. I think the wide whitewalls will look great on this Woody! More to come...
  3. Thanks Michael!
  4. Thanks Mike!
  5. Thanks Michael and Charlie!
  6. Thanks guys! I'm here whenever Liam is ready to build another model. In a couple of years, maybe we can build a glue kit together.
  7. Thanks guys! I think the engine compartment will work now that I have widen it. I could have gone wider or even removed the side panels altogether. I think it would be best to leave them in. The engine has been painted with Tamiya TS-49 Bright Red. The heads will have the plug holes drilled out and given a liberal coating of Dullcoat to knock down the shine of the chrome. I primered the body parts this morning and painted the hood this afternoon. The Body requires a little more sanding. I painted the floor pan and the wheels. More to come...
  8. Charlie, I just love redoing paint flub ups...NOT!!! Carl, it depends upon the paint used. For the Viper, I left it soaking for a week. I use the Fume-Free. The Story The afternoon TV talk show is interrupted by a special report news report from TV6 News. A brief interview with newscaster Derek Jemmings and Judge Augustus Darpolos. The interview centers on the Judge's decision to leave the bench and his arrest by the Boston Police on charges of murder. The Judge states he did not commit any murder and is cooperating fully with the Police. He was released from custody after paying a hefty bail. The red Viper arrives at the home of Judge Augustus Darpolos and pulls into the garage with automatic garage closing after the Viper had pulled in. He gets out of the Viper and goes into the house, stopping at the front door to pick up the mail and then proceeding into the kitchen. He pours himself a drink of scotch and soda and heads upstairs to the bedroom. After 20 minutes, the bedroom lights go off. Half an hour later, two masked men wearing all black, enter the house. Each are carrying a silenced Beretta 92 and they silently go up the stairs to the bedroom, quietly open the door and walk in. They both open fire into the Judge's bed emptying their guns and then they quietly walk out only to be surrounded by The Police and McNally, yelling for them to drop their guns. The Build After a week of soaking in Easy-Off Oven Cleaner, a quick scrubbing with a scouring pad got me this. During the process of scrubbing, I broke the windshield frame. This is an easy fix, but I have to be extra careful while handling the body. McNally will return...
  9. I showed this thread to Liam and he says thanks! This was a great project for both of us and I'm sure that 'Vette will get a lot of carpet miles put on it, too! Now I have to find a birdhouse kit for my granddaughter and I to build together.
  10. Thanks guys! After looking at the pictures, I have found a few flaws with the foil and the decals. I'm going to go and correct those flaws shortly. I have plans for building another one as soon as I can procure the necessary components for a 1970 'Cuda 340 convertible that was once driven a TV detective known as Mannix!
  11. Thanks guys! I've been looking at a way to be able to fit the Ardun headed engine into the engine compartment of the '48 Woody. I found a solution...move the inner fenders. I studied the instructions and compared part fitment and locations. I hope this works! I started by using the backside of my hobby knife with a chisel blade and scribed a 7/8 ths inch line along the inner fender. I didn't want to remove the entire inner fender, just score enough so I can move the inner fender over to make room for the engine. Wow!!! It fits! More to come...
  12. My grandson Liam turned 4 years old earlier this month and I got him a Revell Snap Tite '63 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe as a special project for him and Papa to build. My daughter and the grandkids came over today for Easter and Liam brought along his Corvette kit and telling me, "Let's build this now." Well, I told him it would have to wait a little bit and we can build it together after breakfast. We sat down later together to build the kit and I explained the kit and all the various parts in the kit and that we had to follow the instructions or the 'Vette wouldn't go together. His impatience was getting to get the better of him as he told me several times, "This is taking forever!" Patience is not one of his better traits, but at this early age, one that can be worked on. I did my best to keep him on track and we finished the Corvette in about 30 minutes or so. My granddaughter came over to me afterwards and expressed an interest in a project for her and myself to do together. I am so happy as I am finally getting my grandkids interested in model building as they have been in Papa's model cave and they are always asking questions about my projects. And, another excuse to go to the hobby shop!
  13. Thanks guys! I have finished my '70 'Cuda 383 and it is posted in Under Glass. I would like to thank all those who viewed and commented on my WIP.
  14. I have finished my '70 Plymouth 'Cuda 383. It is painted with Model Master GreenGo aka Sassy Grass Green with a white interior with semigloss black accents. The 383 came from my parts box and the tires were lettered with Shabo Tire Graphics.
  15. The Story Judge Darpolos has been processed and is sitting in an interview room with his lawyer Charlotte "Charlie" Rothmann and Det. Lt. Adam Troy and all are being very cooperative with each other. McNally has returned from Commonwealth Chemical Testing Labs with his evidence to add to the Police gathered evidence. In Adam's office, McNally proposes a plan to draw out and capture the true culprits. Adam is starting to believe that the Judge is not a murder suspect but a victim of blackmail and he agrees to McNally's plan, much to Det. Darvell's chargrin. The Build After much thought, I have decided to strip the paint and start over again after finding too many flaws in the paint. I have tried to touchup as much as I could and ended up only to make a mess out of the body. All body parts except for the hood are to be stripped. After looking at the completed chassis with the hood in place, my mind's eye can envision a different body...more like something along the lines of a Lotus Series Seven or a Morgan Aero Supersports sports car. McNally will return...
  16. The Common Sense gene poll has finally dried up!

  17. In the last several years, I have become interested in Ford Woodys. I picked up the Monogram '48 Ford Woody kit #85-4282 several years ago with the hope of building it stock, but as time went by, that changed. I wanted to build a street rod Woody. I kept the lowered suspension, dual exhaust, and wide whitewall tires from Revell's '48 Ford Custom Coupe kit that I built previously. For motivation, I will not use the stock flathead engine. Instead, I'll use the intake manifold, tri-carbs, and Ardun heads from Revell's '50 Ford Pickup. Monogram's '48 Ford Woody Kit #852 -4282. My paint will be Testors Colors By Boyd Boyd Red enamel since I wanted a dark red instead of my normal bright red. Also shown are some of the extra parts I have procured. More to come...
  18. Thanks Carl! I was sitting here tonight looking at the 'Cuda 383 sitting on the bench and I didn't like the stance. The nose sat too high, almost like a gasser. To my eye, the rear sat just fine. I decided to rip out the front suspension and mockup the custom lowered front suspension to see how the 'Cuda sat with that. Now the 'Cuda sits level and more to my liking. After looking at the driving lights and their small pins, I figured I would have issues with the driving lights falling off. I decided to carefully scrape the plating off of the mounting pins and in the mounting areas on the back of the front bumper. I glued the lights on and set the assembly aside to completely dry for a day. This should give the lights sufficient time to dry completely. More to come...
  19. I got the glass and the interior installed today. I'm nearly done with the engine compartment. Using some parts sprue, I made the connecting pipes for the exhaust system. I need to clean up the bottom of the engine. More to come...
  20. Thanks guys! Charlie, I got an HP 7520. Far better than the 5510 that crapped out on me for the second time. Two 5510's in two years...that's a sign!
  21. Thanks Carl and Thomas!
  22. Thanks Charlie and Bob! Charlie, the story is far from over. There are more twists and turns for McNally to maneuver through.
  23. Thanks Nicky and Carl! Another quiet Sunday morning in the house, so armed with a cup of hazelnut coffee and my new sheet of BMF, I settled in my chair at the bench to finish foiling the 'Cuda. Foiling the bottom of the rear cove took me the longest to do since I had trouble lining the foil up along the edge correctly. I finally broke down and bought a new printer and proceeded to make a new air cleaner decal for the 383. This one is correct saying "Super Commando 383" More to come...
  24. Thanks Carl! The Story When McNally and Charlie arrived at the Judge's house, the Police were already there arresting Augie for the murder of the woman at the motel. Charlie jumps into lawyer mode and advises her client to remain silent and she'll be with him throughout the entire booking process. McNally asks Det. Darvell about the arrest. "We found some fingerprints on the bedside table and on the lamp along with DNA from a towel in the bathroom." McNally replies, "I have evidence that he is being framed and I can tie that to Roberto Solaros." Darvell replies, "Good luck with that." The Build I have finished the interior and engine compartment. The chassis and the interior have been joined together. McNally will return...
  25. Thanks Carl and Charlie! Charlie, I thought the twist would put a little more interest in the story and you have proven that it does with your nice comment. The Story McNally and Charlie visit Judge Darpolos at his home to check on him. The judge is nervously pacing around the house after finding an envelope from the blackmailers with photos of the judge and the dead girl. The pictures will be released to the media if the judge doesn't follow through with their demands. McNally suggests that the judge turn himself into the Police along with all the evidence he has collected and get themselves in front of the case. Augie tells them to leave and he will think about it and let them know in the morning. Charlie says, "I think he's going to crack under the pressure." Morning comes with McNally sitting in his kitchen eating breakfast and watching the morning news on TV. The newscaster announces that Judge Augustus Darpolos has resigned from the bench. The phone rings with Charlie on the other end saying that all the other Boston stations are reporting the same. McNally says, "The judge just cracked..." The Build I painted and assembled the air filter and induction unit. I added the wheels and tires to the now completed chassis. McNally will return...
