A fellow Club member had a simular situation with a Lindberg '66 Chevelle where the paint he used (lacquer) was still tacky after several weeks of drying. He bought another kit made in a different batch and he didn't have any porblems with paint and he used the same can of paint. Based on his experience, I am drawing my own conclusion that I am having the same issues due to the type of plastic used. Just for the heck of it, I coated a spoon with primer and then I'll paint it with the Flame Red lacquer paint and then we shall see if it was the plastic body or the paint.

Curtis, the paint has been stripped once and if I do that again, I'll end up back where I am now, with a tacky body. I was told that there maybe a substance in the plastic that causes this. The plastic is not hard enough or something like that. Curt, I have always thought that Model Master Lacquer Paint was a little too thick. It's 10 times thicker than Tamiya spray paint. I have a feeling that I maybe getting more Tamiya paint in the future.

I do have a dehydrator and the Impala was place in it for at least 8 hours and the paint is still tacky to the touch. I used Testors lacquer primer and lacquer paint and the primer has been completely dry for several weeks when I painted the Impala in my friend's paintbooth. It has been several weeks since I painted the Impala and the paint is still tacky to the touch. I have been trying to find out more info about this condition, but that info is very limited and mostly heresay now. The kit has been boxed up and put away and I may never finish it which is a shame since I don't really like abandoning a project that has come this far.

Actually, it has been cool and dry in the Northeast with the exception of rain showers passing through every other day or so. Not sure how I want to proceed, yet. Part of me hates to abandon a project that has come to the point of adding a completed body to finish the project. I thought about gettting the AMT version (same kit as Lindberg) and finishing the body and adding that to this build just to finish it. Something about the plastic in this kit...

Thanks Curtis! I've had no drying issues at all! The paint was dry to the touch after 10-15 minutes, so I plan on adding another coat of paint or two soon.

I painted the Range Rover with Tamiya TS-26 Pure White yesterday and this afternoon I painted the trim with Rust-Oleum Semi-Gloss Black. With all the masking involved, there were only a couple of small bleed throughs which made me happy. I did a mockup of the body and the chassis to see how the Range Rover was progressing. I added the light bar which is incorrect for this patrol car according to the instructions, but I have seen pictures of various lightbars on Range Rovers and this one looks good to my eye. There are three versions in this kit with appropriate decals to match. I have selected the decals for the British Transport Police. They cover all the rail and bus stations in all of the UK. Paint was flying today in mrmike's Model Cave! I painted the Aston Martin DB4 with Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf. So far, so good. Very little trash in the paint. I will add a couple more coats of paint later followed by several coats of Tamiya TS-13 Clear. More to come...

Well, just for the heck of it, I checked on the Impala body and guess what? It is still tacky to the touch. I just don't get it. It should be dry by now, but something is still keeping the paint tacky. It is lacquer paint and it doesn't smell like it is gassing out anymore, so technically it should be dry, but it isn't. It is back in the box and sitting on the shelf until I can come up with a solution.

I gave the Aston what maybe its final coat of primer before paint. The paint will be Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf. The last picture is of the hood, trunk lid, front and rear valances. More to come...

I finished the interior this morning with decals and paint detailing. I took an 0.3 Mechanical Pencil and traced the pleats on the seats. More to come...

Thanks Curtis and Dan! This is a different kind of kit for me to build. I am finding that many curbside kits have an aweful lot of detail in areas we wouldn't expect to find a lot. A different kind of challenge for me.

I painted the dash and steering wheel for the Range Rover and got the body into a coat of Tamiya white primer. The interior has been partially assembled. I need to detail the dash and steering wheel. This is the resin two-way radio that was given to me by streetrod aka Mr. Prestigous aka Barry Fadden. I added the handset cord, power and antenna cables. Now I'll remove the wires and paint the radio. More to come...

A little more work done this afternoon after a visit from my step-daughter and the grandkids! I got the floorpan permanently mounted and then I got the rest of the suspension painted and mounted. More to come...

I started on the Range Rover Police yesterday with chassis assembly and painting the floor pan. I still need to detail paint the floor pan. I painted the interior seats and side panels and the base of the light bar. I didn't paint the dash since there is a large sink hole in the center of the instument pod and I didn't have any filler with me yesterday. I'll fill those sink holes today with some Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty. More to come...

Thank you Dominik and Daniel! I'm rather happy with the way this Escalade turned out! From the grille to the wheels and the dual exhaust-I'm happy!

I spent a little time this afternoon working on the DB4. I didn't like the way the exhaust tips splayed out , so I carefully moved the right inwards towards the left and broke the tip off completely. A little model glue and and little pressure and the tip is back on the silencer (British for muffler) and it looks better to my eye. Due to the way the hood scoop was molded open on the hood, I added a piece of styrene to the opening to mimic how the hood should actually be on the outside looking at the front of the scoop. One of the things I don't like about opening doors is the way they can sag and stay open when you don't want them to. I added a couple of rare earth magnets to each side of the Aston to help keep the doors closed. More to come...

Thank you Mattias! Sometimes a subject will come along and the boxart will have the right color that just appeals to you. The Escalade boxart appealed to me and I just had to paint it that color.
