Ideas & Inspiration please....
codie27 replied to codie27's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The Opel sounds like a good idea,as I dont really want waste the Detroit Diesel if it cant be seen. The Opel is an easy and cheap kit to find and should get the project finished. Thanks for your help. I will post some pics once I get started again. Cheers. -

Hi Doug, Thanks for your pics, they are both cool. The old water truck is a good idea and yours is done really nice. Something like that for my project would look the part. I think my problem is that, because I am using the Chevy Titan kit as a donor, I cant fit an engine under the hood as I cant find anything that will fit and its really put me off. I was at a model show on Sunday and saw the same conversion kit on the same chassis Im using and it looked like the builder had just built a plate under where the engine should be to hide the fact theres no motor. -
This is looking great, love salt idea. I havent been daring enough yet to try some weathering, but you have described it to make it sound easy enough. Great progess so far, looking forward to seeing it finished.

Australian Street Machine- WILD CAD

Mike , love your idea of sharing some Aussie cars with overseas enthusiasts and what better local magazine to pick for variety. I just saw the new issue on the stands today but didnt have the time to stop and buy a copy. I have been following the build of that Caddy for a while now. What a car!! That has to be one of the coolest rides I have seen for quite a while. -

Longevity of the hobby - what do you think?
codie27 replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Glory days or just the beginning? Who can tell really. We are very lucky we are so spoiled for choice with all the resin and aftermarket gear available right now. I think there are a lot of talented builders out there with a wealth of knowledge to pass on to anybody interested in the hobby. Although I only started building not much more than a year ago, I had minimal skills but deciced I would never build a kit straight out of the box. Being pretty good with a sheet of paper and some pencils, I am of the opinion, box building is like tracing a picture, I hope that doesnt get anybody twisted out of shape, its just my view of how I build. Some of my skills have been picked up by techniques from here on the forum and others have been through trial and error. But aftermarket stuff helps a great deal too. I have a 19 month old son who shows a huge amount of interest in whatever Im building at my work bench, and as a result he loves cars and trucks,so I have put a couple of kits away for him so when he is a bit older he and I can build them. I have always loved old trucks and cars but these days they are fast fading from the roads and peoples memories. With prices of these old time rides only going up,either to restore or buy a good example, what better way to pass on the memory and beauty of these old designs to the younger generation than build them in plastic? Its not the same as the real thing, but for those that cant afford to buy the real thing of every brand he or she ever had a hankering for, having a model of one somewhat fills the void. Cheaper too!! I think maybe the days of vintage/ classic car and truck kits may not last and new era stuff will replace those older kits more and more as younger builders wont share our nostalgia, but it seems that there will be plenty on offer from resin casters. I was at a classic motor museum the other week and got talking with an old fella who was a volunteer there and at one point he was expressing his disappointment at "new" stuff being added to the collection recently. This museum was full of old Cadillacs,Packards,Hudsons a Detroit Electric car and the like, but the new stuff he was referring to was late 60s early 70s Aussie muscle cars and race cars. These were, when I was a kid,the cars to have, the cars Dad drove. Personally I would rather the earlier stuff, so I could see the old fellas point. What I am trying to say here is that in my eyes nostalgia seems to dictate the direction things will go. Model companies produce for the masses but it seems resin casters produce for the nostalgic, as long as we have them, both new school and old school builders will be happy. By the way, I am not knocking the model companies without them there is a lot we wouldnt have. Cheers. -
Should look pretty cool when its finished. Looks like you have spent a fair amount of time on it so far.

How cool to see an old 57 thats different from all the others. Great build and detailing.

This is such a cool build, who would have thought a Gremlin could look so nice? I was always under the impression that Americans hated the Gremlin and only used them for making fun of !! Very much outside of the square this project, great work! Thanks for sharing

Mark, that old Datsun is really cool. I didnt know they came as a kit. Chuck, I can see why you had to post so many pics,it would be hard to pick a favourite from that lot . The little rat tow truck, old Inter and Lincoln are too cool for words. -

Hi everybody, I have posted a similar topic to this in the 'general' area, and got some ideas, but since it is actually truck related I thought I would try the same thing here and ask if you can post a pic or two of your favourite truck builds. I have been stuck on my latest build, a Diamond T P4, I just cant seem to make any progress on it and its driving me nuts!! Hopefully a few cool builds from other members will get the blood pumping again so I can get it done and share some pics of it with you all. Cheers.

Love the old Reo, you have done a brilliant job on it. I am building a P Series Diamond T at the moment but cant seem to get ahead on it. I reckon the problem is that ever since I saw a real one I have wanted to build one, now I finally have one I have the modellers equivalent of writers block and its driving me nuts!!!! -
What a beauty!! When a car is done as good as this its hard to point at what grabs the eye. Every little detail is done so beautifully ,great job!

Wow, what a cool little truck. Not something that is seen very often. Good work.
