Thanks for that Robert, I gonna have to learn how to work with brass, it would come in handy for making some truck parts etc.
-
Since I started this topic, I really should have mentioned my collection as well! I have 9 trucks and one car finished. The number would be 12 if I didnt get so worked up about a work in progress needing this or that and reducing a finished one to parts. A channeled Lindberg 32 Ford pick up with a lot of scratchbuilding done and just needing some paint, a resin Diamond T, an Aussie Western Star with a resin Road Boss conversion kit and a scratchbuilt Mack H-61 project, all needing to be finished. I have about 9 or 10 model car kits all still in their boxes waiting to be built.

Another useful tip shown on the forum. Great idea, thanks for sharing. -
Too much time on the computer and not enough building lately leads me to post strange topics so here goes another.... How many builds do you other members have actually finished and sitting on display versus how many unfinished? And how many of you will go and raid one finished model for donor parts for a current build because you cant find or dont want to wait for parts?
-
This build is great, its very informative when somebody posts pics of how they go about getting the job done. The idea of using brass is new to me and I couldnt really understand how it was used before you showed these pics. With some practice it looks like it could be easy enough. What do you use to weld the joins? I have scratchbuilt 4 truck cabs out of styrene (posted in model trucks pages) and I can really appreciate the work you have put into this build so far. Looking forward to seeing more of this one.

1500+ hours, that just makes my head spin!!! I'll say it again, Im looking forward to seeing this one. Should be a beauty. I have googled the H-61 but keep turning up the same pics. I have scratchbuilt a cab from pics I have found, its posted here somewhere, but am trying to find pics of the chassis and rear of cab. There is a short video of one on you tube which helps a little. I e-mailed the Mack museum a while back to ask for info, but still havent got anything. Maybe they wont send to Australia,I dont know. Might have to go a different direction with it. -
Looking good. I'll be watching this one. What colours do you have planned for it? Should look great finished.

D'OH, jumped to far ahead and answered then read the thread.

Dave,I ll surely be looking forward to seeing the Autocar done,if its even half as detailed as that Pete, it should be awesome. Is it going to be based on the black one? Might be a long shot, but does your friend happen to have an H-61 Mack in his collection? I took a look at the photobucket pics, good reference shots in there. Thanks again for sharing. -

The Most Dangerous Car You've Ever Owned
codie27 replied to David G.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Funny how sometimes the most dangerous cars seem to hold a lot of sentimental value. A couple of years ago I had to resort to a push bike for transport as work was slow and we were living in a small town. Anyway a day after getting the bike I got my first good paycheck in a while and was out and about and spotted a 1972 HQ Holden panel van on the side of the road for 800 bucks and bought it straight away. Man I tell you it was the definition of never judging a book by its cover!! When it rained your feet got wet, the wipers fell off the first time I used them, the water getting in under the stainless trim around the windscreen used to short out the fuses for all the lights,it had no brake booster so you had to hit the pedal hard to get the worn shoes to stop, it would overheat on any drive longer than an hour, pulling the carpet up on the drivers side floor revealed no floor pan, the list goes on! But it was cool to look at and was good for fishing trips,it always started and ran brilliant round town and my girlfriend and I were very sad we had to sell it when we moved back to the city because it wouldnt have made the 600kay drive. On the plus side we sold it for the same price we bought it for! The picture is not of my car as I cant find my photos, but I did a google search so you all could see some Aussie tin. This one is nearly exactly the same though mine was white. -

David , I admire your skills with that Diamond T. That little truck really got me going, very good attention to detail. I gotta say though,I am a little jealous of your friend with the truck collection shown in those pics. Looks like he has some really nice old trucks in there, lucky you having access to those for reference. Thanks for sharing your pics. -
Very nice work, all the custom mods look like it would have came from the factory that way.

Longevity of the hobby - what do you think?
codie27 replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Its great when the other half supports the hobby. My girl calls me a dork for it,but she will always come with me to model shows, hobby shops,if she is out and about will look around for stuff I dont have or that she thinks is cool. If she can sense my boredom she will tell me to go and work on a project. When we met she had no appreciation for cars, these days she is always pointing out the old cars on the road and knows the make and model of them. -
HAHAHAHA, I have noticed. Where willit go next?

Your Very First Real Car
codie27 replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had plenty before this one but my first real car was a 1978 HX Holden Caprice. It looked like it just rolled out of the dealership when I bought it in 2005. These cars were the top of the line when released and had power everything, long wheel base and a 308 V8. I was close to tears the day I sold it. The pics are not of my car because I cant find the photos of it. I searched google for pics so people who have never seen one can take a look.
