thanks guys, hearts not been into much lately but I've done a little more on this one. Worked on the rust already there trying to get it a little more realistic and cut out the molded in battery and made a rusty battery box for it instead

69 Daytona Pro Mod 1/16th scale updated 4/3/12 ..It's a wrap!

the chutes would have to be on the car or packed otherwise they'd be in the way. ie people tripping over them to get those jackstands under there. the only time ours were ever on the ground was if you had to fold them by yourself which is pretty difficult to do and its almost impossible to get the pilot chute in there without two people. -
looking good John!

maybe some dullcoat? the shape and placement look good but the texture or surface look way to shiny nothing really like they should as in the finish, the rest of the build however, wow dude, I think you have outdone not only yourself but everyone else on here that paint is something special. Good luck with finding the solution to the chutes, I think it will be worth the effort. -
fast forward two weeks to yesterday got a bit more done on this, have to make up the inner skins for both doors now. Undecided whether to put it on a rotisserie or on weathered drive train. the engine and trans will be out of the car so will entail a fair bit of weathering and detailing to make it look good but my emphasis is to get the body done first theres a few pics, just trying to show some of the details better as well as the overall shots

My brother inlaw is not a patient dude, him building models often made me cringe or laugh my ass off. This build was a combination of the two. After buying up a dozen of so kits and jumping straight into hacking and wacking (hes a car guy in his 30s)I've ended up fixing or receiving the remains of many of them. This one he laid the HOK lacquers on a little hot which crazed the plastic a bit, but the funny thing to me was he put the body in a warm gas oven to speed up the drying time.......... of lacquer  how impatient do you have to be ? lol to his credit as soon as it started to droop he pulled it out and threw it in the sink. Now most of it wasnt to bad but the boot and left rear qtr were pretty munted, so what to do? by the way it looks better in pics than reality so I've started on a workshop resto of sorts. The qtr is off the drivers door and boot are off and I'm starting on all the interior sheet metal bracing, you know the stuff you never see usually. The right rear qtr has been rusted out as has the sills, new back panel welded in place will give it a new right front qtr in black from the parts shop. It will eventually end up in a workshop dio the tulip panel is probably going to come off as well, also thinking about giving it a vinyl top

awesome work Jack, it looks great

Figure out the dead center of the body end to end. Sit on a piece of preferably graph paper, then mark the paper where the centers are. then care fully sit the tires in the wheel wells and mark the point (center) where they touch the ground this will give you your wheelbase. I like to trace around the edges of the body on the inside to work out the ends of the frame rails. You pretty much need to know how wide your engine block is to work out how wide the main rails have to be apart but 3/4's of an inch is pretty close. Then figure out where the firewalls gonna be and start building your frame. Hunt out Thumper86's chassis tutorial if you can, its a great starter.

Thanks Dave, I thought thats what they would be for , just wanted to make sure. We only have one current spec fuel funny down here but making it to the limited meetings he runs at isnt always possible. ( I should have been a bit clearer on mentioning that it was the top brackets I was referring to) but to me it was prety obvious what the others were for.
