That looks excellent! I think you got the overall look just right for a late '50s/early '60s Hot Rod. The color fits very well to this body, but my favorite part is definitely the upholstered Tuck 'n' Roll wheel wells and roof! Very nice work overall.

Yep I understand that very well, and that's probably why the shipping prices often are so high... But, let's see what happens with the tracking!

Well, unfortunately they are, and they use it a lot at least here in the Southern Finland... The best days in the winter are those when it's so cold that the road salt doesn't work. Of course the roads are very slippery then, but then we just have to drive carefully... And we can be happy that there is none of that disgusting road salt all over the chassis.

I picked one of those AquaRod kits for about $25 a couple of years ago... Either that's not so rare or then mine was just very cheap. It was complete, only some chassis parts were painted and glued together. Now I just need to build that. I've never seen that Strip & Surf Van anywhere. I'd love to have one of those Vegas on my stash but finding them is not easy... Those Red Alerts are not common either, but I've seen one or two pop up for sale sometimes.

Well, tracking is always a bonus, but I'm completely fine without tracking as well. I've ordered bunch of stuff from The US before and all of the packages have showed up just fine. So, I'm not ready to pay huge amounts of shipping costs just for the tracking. But even with the tracking, $50 is just unreal.... Edit: My order was just shipped and I got a tracking code. $25 Shipping, not so bad.

Looks like I'll need to buy one from eBay. All Hobby Shops seem to ask for some ridicullous shipping prices to Finland, but on eBay the shipping cost seems to be $25, which is something I can live with. Some company in the internet wanted $50 for shipping to Finland?!

Very cool looking Corvette! We don't see many of these built, but this is a great looking 'Vette body style. You did a great job on that. I thought it was a real car at first, nice job!
-
Yep, they produced some very nice bodies, but in many kits the chassis and engine bays are pretty poor quality... I have the Drag On Lady AMX on the works too and so far I've done some massive chassis modifications on that and hopefully I'll soon be at the same position than if the chassis was decent quality so that I can actually paint and assemble something instead of cutting and sanding... This looks like pretty much similar project, except that the front axle area is not that bad as it is in the AMX kit...

Wow! Some fantastic work going on here! Everything looks so good that I don't know what to say... Really nice work! Those hubcaps look good. I know I'd buy a set or two if there was a resin version available. Those would look great on a Custom.

That sounds familiar! I was going to use Lindberg chassis under my '64 Polara Factory Experimental car but because of the same issue I'll probably end up with the Jo-Han chassis too. Anyway, looks like you're doing a great job on this... Keep the pictures coming!

Doc Love's Street Beast Update 3/12/18 Finished
W-409 replied to Buffs Fan's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
This is an interesting project, I'll gotta keep an eye on it! Are you going to build the earlier version of Street Beast with the higher stance or the later, more aerodynamic version? In my opinion the earlier version was a lot cooler, but of course to keep up with the competition I understand that some modifications have to be done... -
What did you see on the road today?
W-409 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
...And today I saw this Rambler American coming the other way than I was going on a highway. The owner is a real AMC enthusiast with several different AMC cars. Some of them are in flawless condition, some are not that flawless, but even though this Rambler looks a bit used it's driven all year round without any problems. The picture is taken last summer at a local Cruising Night as today I didn't have a camera with me. -
Yep, but with the shipping costs as high (or even higher!) than the model itself I'm pretty sure I can't find a good enough deal from eBay... This cost me about $20. I want one of those Golden Commandos Plymouths too!

I just bought myself another Monogram Chevy S10 as I found one cheap. The body is exactly similar to my daily driver so now as I have two of these, other one will be built as a replica of my 1:1 car and another one will be something else.... Just couldn't pass this one as these kits are getting hard to find around here at least.

What did you see on the road today?
W-409 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Last year (last week ) while drinking coffee at local gas station someone drove past the gas station with a green early '70s Mopar C-Body. I'm no expert on those so I can't say exactly what it was, but a C-Body Mopar it was for sure and in very nice condition. Those are seen rarely in the winter! Earlier this week I saw a fairly clean '78 El Camino with a Cowl Induction scoop on the hood. Don't know what engine it had but it looked great. And at the same night I spotted also a green '64 Bel Air. And on New Year's eve when we were coming home from friend's garage party a '76-'77 Nova was cruising close to where I live. But the rarest thing was today when a green "Gangster-Citroen" was seen on the traffic. Those are extremely rare around here even in the summertime. This was in immaculate condition. Similar to the one in this picture, but just a different color. -
I don't even have that kit yet but I'm already seeing nightmares about installing those decals. Seriously speaking, Moebius decals have been definitely the best ones I've seen yet. Even the larger ones have been fairly easy to install. This kit is definitely on my list, so when I see it with a reasonable price tag I'll take one!

Polishing is the key here. Don't get me wrong, you can spray a nice smooth and shiny finish straight out of a spray can but that is very tricky and I know only a couple of people who can do that. So I'd concentrate on getting a decent paint job and then polishing it. I've always done that way and had great results with all kinds of different paints. Just make sure that the paint is completely dry before you start polishing. For polishing itself there are several different ways to do it. I've used polishing cloths and they have worked very nicely. Then I finish it off with some good wax. Some people use polishing compounds and they seem to work fine as well, but I've never tried that myself.

I appreciate the offer Mike, I'll keep it in mind for sure. Right now I'm a bit short on money so I'll be building something I already have. But sometimes I come across a seller who doesn't want to ship outside USA and Canada, so with those cases a bit of help would be awesome. Thanks.
-
Wow, that looks great already! I have several of different Mopar kits from this era too all of which will be Super Stock or FX cars so I'm watching this very closely. Nice job grafting the roof on that body.

I'm still not sure what I'll be building... I have a few options but I'd like to stay with a bit smaller size cars as I'd like to keep the engine naturally aspirated. Definitely no turbos for me as that would be too obvious. Supercharging a straight six would be fun and that's what I'll probably do if I end up with a bigger body style. I have several choices, for example a '75 Dart Sport that would be my #1 choice if it wasn't missing the whole front end (No fenders or nose clip at all)... Then I could do a '63 Nova which would be very interesting, but I have only two of those Trumpeter HTs and those kits are not easy to find here in Finland... Then there's a '62 Bel Air which is an old builtup that has everything except the engine that was taken in for another project. But that's a heavy car that would need some supercharging!
-
I've followed Drag Week for several years with great interest and building something similar in scale would be a lot of fun. If I had more time to build I'd definitely be in, but right now with everything else going on and a couple of other Community Builds I'm pretty sure I couldn't finish anything in time.

Depends on the type of the engine... Usually on Factory Stock engines it's the same color as the engine, but especially on high performance applications I paint it to replicate an aluminum oil pan or something like that... It depends so much on what the engine is and where it goes in.
-
Thanks Andy and Wayne! Somehow I've always liked this (or something close anyway) color the best on these G-Bodies. So I just had to paint mine that way. Now I decided that the body had dried enough so that I could clear coat it. I sprayed two light coats, one kind of "almost-wet-coat" and then one wet coat of clear on it. I'm not sure if that's enough to be polished, but I need to try as I can't spray any more clear on the body or otherwise some of the smaller details and chrome trim will be hidden under the paint... And of course as I finished shooting the clear, a couple pieces of dust landed to the hood and roof... Luckily polishing should take care of them.

This is a very interesting project, especially since I know that you're doing an amazing work with it. We don't see too many of these old Drag Racers built around here... Great work already, that Trumpeter chassis fits surprisingly well on this older Falcon body. Can't wait to see more pics.
