  1. I just bought myself another Monogram Chevy S10 as I found one cheap. The body is exactly similar to my daily driver so now as I have two of these, other one will be built as a replica of my 1:1 car and another one will be something else.... Just couldn't pass this one as these kits are getting hard to find around here at least.
  2. Last year (last week ) while drinking coffee at local gas station someone drove past the gas station with a green early '70s Mopar C-Body. I'm no expert on those so I can't say exactly what it was, but a C-Body Mopar it was for sure and in very nice condition. Those are seen rarely in the winter! Earlier this week I saw a fairly clean '78 El Camino with a Cowl Induction scoop on the hood. Don't know what engine it had but it looked great. And at the same night I spotted also a green '64 Bel Air. And on New Year's eve when we were coming home from friend's garage party a '76-'77 Nova was cruising close to where I live. But the rarest thing was today when a green "Gangster-Citroen" was seen on the traffic. Those are extremely rare around here even in the summertime. This was in immaculate condition. Similar to the one in this picture, but just a different color.
  3. I don't even have that kit yet but I'm already seeing nightmares about installing those decals. Seriously speaking, Moebius decals have been definitely the best ones I've seen yet. Even the larger ones have been fairly easy to install. This kit is definitely on my list, so when I see it with a reasonable price tag I'll take one!
  4. Polishing is the key here. Don't get me wrong, you can spray a nice smooth and shiny finish straight out of a spray can but that is very tricky and I know only a couple of people who can do that. So I'd concentrate on getting a decent paint job and then polishing it. I've always done that way and had great results with all kinds of different paints. Just make sure that the paint is completely dry before you start polishing. For polishing itself there are several different ways to do it. I've used polishing cloths and they have worked very nicely. Then I finish it off with some good wax. Some people use polishing compounds and they seem to work fine as well, but I've never tried that myself.
  5. I appreciate the offer Mike, I'll keep it in mind for sure. Right now I'm a bit short on money so I'll be building something I already have. But sometimes I come across a seller who doesn't want to ship outside USA and Canada, so with those cases a bit of help would be awesome. Thanks.
  6. Wow, that looks great already! I have several of different Mopar kits from this era too all of which will be Super Stock or FX cars so I'm watching this very closely. Nice job grafting the roof on that body.
  7. I'm still not sure what I'll be building... I have a few options but I'd like to stay with a bit smaller size cars as I'd like to keep the engine naturally aspirated. Definitely no turbos for me as that would be too obvious. Supercharging a straight six would be fun and that's what I'll probably do if I end up with a bigger body style. I have several choices, for example a '75 Dart Sport that would be my #1 choice if it wasn't missing the whole front end (No fenders or nose clip at all)... Then I could do a '63 Nova which would be very interesting, but I have only two of those Trumpeter HTs and those kits are not easy to find here in Finland... Then there's a '62 Bel Air which is an old builtup that has everything except the engine that was taken in for another project. But that's a heavy car that would need some supercharging!
  8. I've followed Drag Week for several years with great interest and building something similar in scale would be a lot of fun. If I had more time to build I'd definitely be in, but right now with everything else going on and a couple of other Community Builds I'm pretty sure I couldn't finish anything in time.
  9. Depends on the type of the engine... Usually on Factory Stock engines it's the same color as the engine, but especially on high performance applications I paint it to replicate an aluminum oil pan or something like that... It depends so much on what the engine is and where it goes in.
  10. Thanks Andy and Wayne! Somehow I've always liked this (or something close anyway) color the best on these G-Bodies. So I just had to paint mine that way. Now I decided that the body had dried enough so that I could clear coat it. I sprayed two light coats, one kind of "almost-wet-coat" and then one wet coat of clear on it. I'm not sure if that's enough to be polished, but I need to try as I can't spray any more clear on the body or otherwise some of the smaller details and chrome trim will be hidden under the paint... And of course as I finished shooting the clear, a couple pieces of dust landed to the hood and roof... Luckily polishing should take care of them.
  11. This is a very interesting project, especially since I know that you're doing an amazing work with it. We don't see too many of these old Drag Racers built around here... Great work already, that Trumpeter chassis fits surprisingly well on this older Falcon body. Can't wait to see more pics.
  12. That's an impressive Funny Car for sure. The paint and decal work is just simply perfect, especially because the black paint is so tricky to get right. Also your detailing is looking very good. Everything looks really good, nice work!
  13. Wow! That's a very nicely done Nova! I agree with everyone else, the color looks excellent on it and your paint job turned out really nice too. Everything looks just right...Nice work!
  14. I'd suggest visiting at Ted's Modeling Marketplace. I think you'll find lots of stuff from there plus that Ted is a super nice guy to deal with. I believe you could find at least the tachometer, Kirkey seats, MSD Box, probably the cauge panel, fuel pump, coil overs, wheelie bars and probably some other stuff from there as well. I'm not sure about where to find that B&M Shifter, but that should be fairly easy to scratchbuild from sheet plastic. The transbrake button is not hard to make either. The switch panel is a bit trickier to scratchbuild so if anyone has any good ideas for that I'd like to hear them too. The other parts could be found in some different kits, so a post in the Wanted section might be a good idea. Hope this helps.
  15. Thanks everyone for the kind comments! They are appreciated. I agree that it's great to see different versions built from these common kits. The BadMan looks cool, but there are so many of them seen in the internet that I wanted to do something different with mine. We have two of those '73 Chevelle resin kits in here, I have one and my dad has one too. I should start that at some point, I'm thinking a Stock Eliminator '73 Chevelle.... Then I have a couple of '75 Chevelle Stock Car kits and another one of them should be converted into a replica of our '74 Stock Eliminator car... That's right, I've always been shooting for quality over quantity. It was a lot of fun to do some improvements on an old kit like this and I'll be doing more similar builds in the future. And Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours too!
  16. Well that's a great looking Thunderbolt! It's also nice to see some different versions on this kit (Even though early to mid '60s Drag Cars are my favorites), and it looks like you've done a great job on this. Especially my hat is off because of that flawless decal work! Overall a very nice build.
  17. Merry Christmas everyone!
  18. It's always great to see these old Super Stock cars, especially when done this well! So don't feel bad about finishing only one, it's one of the best looking Galaxies that I've seen built. Interesting to see what you'll be building next year.
  19. You always manage to build some impressive models even though the starting points are not the easiest ones to work with. I haven't seen those Trucks before either, and to be honest I don't even know what make are they? They both look excellent though. If I had to pick my favorite, I'd probably go with that '57 Chevy too. Excellent work, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
  20. Great to see your builds posted in here, those are very inspiring! I especially like the red Digger, Belly Tanker and that '55 Gasser. All of them are very nicely done though. Happy New Year and can't wait to see your finished builds in 2018!
  21. I'll post this now since I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to finish anything else this year... The year started out strong as I finally finished my '55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser in March. It was built from Revell's reissue of the old Monogram "BadMan" kit with lots of modifications here and there. I started it already in 2014 so it was about time to have it completed. ...And just like last year (And the year before), that's it! I'd liked to finish more than one, but 1:1 cars took so much time that I got very little bench time after the spring. I've been making a good progress with my '62 Chevy II that I converted from 4D Sedan into a 2D Sedan, and then we built a new tow vehicle for our Stock Eliminator Malibu, and of course spent the summer Drag Racing with that! Anyway, it looks like I'll be finishing more than one in 2018 as I have a couple projects now that are getting pretty close of being done, plus then I really need to finish one Contest entry on another forum.... So hopefully next year I can post some more builds on here too.
  22. Now I'm just wondering who is going to build a diorama of Vanishing Point I end scene since we'll get a reissue on those Bulldozers?
  23. This is very interesting! Funny Cars are challenging to build as they require bunch of scratchbuilt details under the body to make them accurate...But that's also why they are so fun to build, so I'll definitely be buying one of these when they are out. This 1st Gen Cougar has always been one of the best looking bodies from that era.
  24. That's a really cool '57 Chevy! That Miss Deal chassis is a great donor for many different bodies, I used it on a 1959 Simca resin body a few years ago and I'm planning to do some more conversions with those in the future. This '57 looks excellent just like it is. Those red windows make it stand out in my opinion!
  25. Thanks Randy! I'm happy to say that I got the paint job fixed. After it was completely dry, I sanded it with 1,000 grit hoping that I won't go through the paint as then I would have to start all over again. Luckily that didn't happen so when the paint job looked smoother, I went back to the garage and sprayed another light coat of gold on the body. This time the result looks much better, so now I'll let it dry and then I'll shoot some clear on it...
