  1. It's always great to see a nicely built Stock or Super Stock Drag Car, and this is a fine example of that. Great paint and detail work all over, at first I thought it was real when I saw the pics. Vinyl roof is a nice touch.
  2. '61 Plymouth Fury Resin Kit arrived in the Mail today. It is cast by a friend of mine and it's very sharp quality all over. All of the details are really crisp, flash was thin and easy to remove etc. Really good looking kit. I will need a '64 Dodge 330 for a chassis donor, for the engine I'll use ModelHaus 413 and it will be a Junior Stock Drag Car. All pics of the parts can be found from My Fotki.
  3. Good looking Pickup, Jason! I've been drooling over those for a while now (Actually I've been drooling over the '80s versions because they are much more common here in Finland) but I'm really happy with the daily driver that I have currently so it would be a no brainer to trade it away. Plus that this works as well as our Race Car Hauler in the summertime. So an '87 Chevy Van with 379 Cid Diesel engine (6.2).
  4. I think constructive criticism is the best kind of comment that I can get. It's the best way to get new tips and tricks or advice how to do something better. I've got lots of new ideas and good advice for my builds from constructive criticism. It's nice to hear compliments, but criticism is what teaches the best... In my opinion anyway.
  5. A Glue Bomb of Jo-Han '71 Barracuda Pro Stock arrived yesterday. I have already restored one of these kits and it was a lot of fun. Now when this was for sale with a really reasonable price, I decided to buy it with plans of restoring it as a Super Stock Drag Car. It's missing some parts also, but that might not be a problem. Yesterday I also bought some styrene rod to complete the roll cage on my Top Street Mustang build.
  6. Really nice Ford with a great stance. Perfect wheel and tire choice, too, and those enlarged wheel openings on rear look very good. Nice and smooth paint with great details finish it off! Only complaint is that this is technically not a Gasser right now. You need to add a rear bumper or push bar to make this Gasser-Legal.
  7. It depends on what you are interested in. I kind of disagree with JC, I think it's good to start practising painting your model straight from the start. With basic spray can paints you can turn out some really impressive results and before painting you can remove mold lines and flash from the body without ruining the look of the molded in color plastic. Maybe a Hot Rod isn't the best for your first model, as they have lots of small and very fragile parts that are sometimes a real pain to glue on place. Though if I remember correctly, for example, Revell's '32 Ford 3W Coupe went really well together. I think adding Bare Metal Foil isn't that hard, but if you'd like to paint the chrome trim silver (Or if the car is newer and it has rubber trim, then black) use masking tape and it will turn out good. I would not be afraid of doing that. My first model ever was AMT '60 Ford Starliner. It went together pretty nicely and it had lots of parts. It was a lot of fun to build and I think it was perfect for a first model. Just watch the instructions carefully and do not rush anything & it will turn out really nice.
  8. This is probably the best looking Dodge Dart of all time. What you said of those Jo-Han kits is true, I have the same situation here in Finland where they are not easy to find either. Good work getting this one to look right! Smooth and shiny paint job looks good, but I think your sharp BMF work really finishes it off. Nice and clean work all over. This makes me want to place an order to MCW - I need one resin Sedan body to create Ramchargers' Factory Experimental Drag Car...
  9. I should have been more specific with my statement... I meant that when it's clear coated, I can turn the paint job into a much better than if it was not clear coated. I've tried polishing bare paint a couple of times and it has never turned out really good. With the clear coat on, polishing is much easier and it creates shinier paint job, for me anyway.
  10. I have to say that I thought the SS grille looked much better than RS version. I've never been a great fan of those grilles that hide headlights behind them on these cars. Still it looks very good like this and your craftmanship is really great to watch. This will be another stunning model once finished, I'm sure about that.
  11. Some people don't appreciate the way I do this clear coat thing, but I clear coat always. Doesn't matter what color the car is, it will always be clear coated as it makes polishing much easier and creates shinier paint job. Always if there are decals applied, I will shoot a clear coat too. It's not that I think I must seal the decals under a clear coat, but then after polishing that clear it makes the decals look painted on. And that is just the thing I'm looking for on my builds. Some of you folks turn out some really impressive paint jobs without clear coats. I appreciate it, but I will keep shooting clear coats on my models even if someone might think it's not realistic.
  12. Thanks Rob! This is a great kit for sure and your plans sound really interesting. Post pics of your project when you get started with it, I can't wait for that as I really like that Taildragger stance too. This is a cool car that doesn't need much Customizing if not wanted, though it can be Customized radically and it will still look good. Today I started polishing the body. As usual, I started from the roof. Silver isn't the easiest color to show the shine, but I think it turned out pretty good. It was also neat to polish when the paint job was a lot smoother than what I had to deal with on my '69 Charger Daytona build. I hope I can do some more polishing tomorrow.
  13. Thanks Darryl, Jason and Dave! You all are real 'Master Modelers' so I appreciate your kind words a lot. I've done some more cage work with this. I added another crossbar to the main hoop under that Funny Car Cage. After a couple of other tubes on that area, I think the Funny Car Cage is now pretty much done - it needs only cleanup to the seams where those tubings meet each other. I added a bit material to the roof also. I will add one or two more tubings to that cage and then I can call it done. I ran out of that styrene rod though, so I will go and buy a new set of it from a Local Hobby Shop.
  14. That looks really good! My favorite generation of Chevrolet Chevelles for sure! These are very rarely seen as models, so I'm really happy to see one done this well. Good job doing the conversion. What kits did you use? You said you used an MPC Chevelle Malibu as a base kit. But which one was it? Also where did you get that Wagon roof and stock front end (if it didn't come with the kit). Only minor "flaw" I see is that the rear end should be curved a bit more forward just before the rear bumper. But that's a small thing - I'm very happy to see one of these built and this is a really nice and clean build despite that minor thing.
  15. I built a '61 Olds F-85 Wagon last year and it was a lot of fun! This kit seems to be pretty close to that one, which isn't of course a surprise as the car isn't that different either. Good work on this. I really like the color and how well it fits to the shapes of this car. Really nice and smooth paint job too & nice and clean work on interior as well. I like it, thanks for sharing.
  16. It's always nice to see someone Not using the ugly big wheels if they come with the kit. A big plus point for that! I always get rid of them at first, too. Good work with that engine, it looks very realistic with those oil marks etc. Nice trick on those belt pulleys too, I've never thought of that. Keep this coming.
  17. Maybe they did it for the reason & maybe that V6 with missing two cylinders is better than V8. But to me, V8 will always be "the one", and it would have made this car somewhat interesting. Now with a V6 it doesn't interest me at all. Plus that I have never heard a V6 with good sounds. And I can tell you I'm not the only one who thinks like this. So...Even if I could afford buying this thing - I would know many, many cars that I'd buy instead.
  18. That looks plain horrible! It looks like somekind of a Lamborghini or Ferrari or something like that. And I've never liked them. This is very ugly as well, IMO. And that it doesn't have a V8. That would have been the only good thing it that one. It's just like Brian Setzer says... I should'a had a V-8, I should'a had a V-8 It's the only motor ever made that never gets there late You can get a V-6 if you wanna save gas, but I'm the kind of guy who likes to get there fast I'm late! I should'a had a V-8
  19. Thanks Gene, Carl and Michael! Your kind comments are really appreciated! Here is a little update on the progress. I shot some Primer on the Quick Change rear end. There was a highly visible ejector mark and a couple of other flaws that needed to be smoothed out. So I smoothed out that ejector pin mark using a file and sandpaper. After taking the picture I smoothed out all the rest mold problems and it looks really smooth now - ready for the second coat of Primer. I painted wheels as well. Rear wheels are taken from this kit, front wheels are from Lindberg's '64 Dodge 330 (Ramchargers version). Both ended up being in chrome stripping first to remove that chrome plating and then I painted the wheels with Humbrol Metallic 53. Bolts were painted with Humbrol Polished Aluminum and center knobs from front wheels with Humbrol Gloss Black. I still need to add valve stems to the wheels and maybe slight black washing around the bolts and lug nuts. Rear tires are also from the kit, fronts are taken from AMT Firestone Tire Parts Pack, which means that white walls are pad printed. Front axle was glued on place, too. Radius Rods were painted Humbrol Metallic 56 and first I glued that front axle on place. It fit really nicely. However, those radius rods were a pain to install as they were too long. After lots of filing to make them shorter, they fit better now. I need to do a couple of paint touchups here and there.
  20. Maybe Chris was testing his Front Engine Dragster build..? Really, it looks like it could be fired up & driven any moment and I'm sure this Funny Car will do the same when it's done. Super nice work all over, those tins look really nice and smooth. Keep it coming!
  21. I'm definitely a builder. If I don't have plans to build a kit, I will definitely not buy that one. And because I can't own every car that I'd like in 1:1 scale, it's a good alternative to build models from them instead. And of course, building models is Fun!
  22. I've built two Tamiya kits (One for my shelf, other one as a Birthday present) and those metal transfers are great. They're quite easy to install and they still look good after three years sitting on the shelf. It's a shame that MCG hasn't produced those Photo Etch sets for a while now. They would have been a great addition, even though I believe I wouldn't have bought many of them anyway...Maybe for the most interesting kits, though.
  23. Luke's paint jobs are really unbelievable. That paint on the Chevelle looks much better than my gloss black paint job after a couple of clear coats & lots of polishing. I have done one car in black... And according to my experiences, black definitely is a hard color to get right. Not only because it needs really smooth bodywork under the paint job to look good, but it is very hard to polish nicely, too. All of the tight spots, corners etc are easily left grey and not as glossy as middle of the roof, for example. In other colors that is not seen so well, but black shows it immediately. I've done one car in black...I was planning to do a couple of other ones, too, but that's probably not gonna happen.
  24. I'd really like to see that Hemi Hustler being reissued. Those Hemi Under Glass kits can be found quite easily, but these Hemi Hustlers are much harder to find. I know I'd buy one immediately... But I'd like to see a new Hemi Under Glass kit too.
  25. This is absolutely the only way to make a Dats... Nissan interesting. Seriously, great job so far. That engine looks really good, sharp detailing there. I like your wheel choice as well. But I just think you should add roll cage to the back of the body (the trunk area) too.
