  1. I just checked this one from DrasticPlastics and I must say that it looks Fantastic! Maybe you could try uploading the pictures in Fotki or Photobucket to be able to post them here as well? I don't know what would be the problem as I've never used attachments while posting to forums. I think the end result was worth the wait. Now just let's hope you can get the pics in here, too.
  2. Yep so when kit's cage was together I started adding some more plastic rods to it. Actually this step was a lot easier than I originally thought and only really tricky part was getting that Funny Car cage right. Note that the cage is not finished yet, it will need still more plastic rods here and there and of course some major cleanup. Everything is just roughly glued together right now, so I will have to do some smoothing with Super Glue or Putty when all of the tubings are glued together. And here is one shot with the body on:
  3. I know I shouldn't start any new projects, but as I'm getting closer finishing a couple ones and I got this kit as a Christmas Present I just had to start building it. This will be a very interesting build for me. I have been building lots of older stuff this year and now when I'm building a car that would race today there is much more detail to be added. And that's one thing I like. So I got Revell's '90 Ford Mustang LX Drag Racer kit as a Present and right away I knew what I was going to do. These Mustangs are really popular in different kinds of Street Classes of Drag Racing and Finland is not an exception. Those Mustangs that race here in Finland have inspired me to do this. This Mustang will be built as a Top Street Drag Car. Top Street is basically for "Street Cars" but really only a couple of cars are street legal that run in TS. They have to run with Drag Radials and front suspension must be original type. In Top Street all engines have somekind of a power adder and engine tuning is free. To give you a good idea of this class, here's a link to Top Street Qualifying video from Finland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uk0__J1fBkY I'm going to go with Ford 347 Cid Stroker with a couple of Dominators and NOS on my build. The kit is really nice. It has great Race parts and it is a good starting point, even if it needs lots of work of course to be a proper Top Street car. And here is the body that everyone says doesn't look like a Fox Mustang.... To me it looks spot on! Drag Radials (325 X 50) are from Ted's Modeling Marketplace and they fit just perfectly to this Mustang. I'm not sure about the wheels, though. This kit has Weld DragStars, but I've never been a fan of those wheels. I must look what I can find from my parts box. Usually the actual building starts from an engine, but this time I thought I should try building a roll cage first. The kit provides a cage that won't be enough for this build. I knew I had to build a roll cage that will work up to 7.5 second passes, so using Tyrone's Mustang build as a reference I started adding more tubes to the kit's cage. First I test fitted kit's cage together and realized that the tubes that go back from that main roll bar are too short. I stretched them a little and then added some Bondo to cover ejector pin marks on the tubes. After that kit's cage was glued together (But not on the floor of course). More on the next post...
  4. Good looking builds Jack and Jesse! I have built one of those Novas years ago when I was younger and the build turned out nowhere near today's standards. It was a lot of fun though and I'm planning on building another one at some point when I find a kit and time to build it.
  5. Thanks Guys, I appreciate the comments! Gene: Yep I like those carburetors too. When I tried painting them that way I had been looking for a good shade of color for carbs for a long time. After my first try painting them like this I really liked the look and after that most of my carbs have been painted that way. I think it brings out the details really nicely and the shade is excellent in my opinion. Snake: That's a great information... Thanks! I will have to see if I can find Model Master enamels here in Finland. I know they are not the easiest ones to find, but that could be worth trying if I found a bottle of that color somewhere. I'm slowly working on the fuel lines. I should have an update in a couple of days, but another build I got as a Christmas Present is slowing me down a bit. Another WIP thread will be coming soon, but it doesn't mean that I have boxed this one and put it back on the shelf... This one is still on the bench and I'm making some progress.
  6. I really like to follow your projects as I enjoy saving old Glue Bombs as well. Great job taking parts from different Glue Bombs and making them fit together perfectly... That mock up is looking really good, period correct just like the real thing too. I'll be definitely keeping a close eye on this one.
  7. This year was overall really good for me. Well, finishing only three (!) models was a major disappointment, but because quality is much more important than the number of finished models, I'm really happy as I was able to improve the quality of my models again. Other things slowed me down a lot, but here they are: 1. '61 Oldsmobile F85 Wagon. Built as a Mild Custom from Jo-Han kit. Painted with Tamiya Sprays, added engine details, scratchbuilt door panels and modified dashboard, backseat, trunk, floor, firewall and center console. Metal axle hole on the engine block was filled, air cleaner was modified a little, I added a carburetor, made new windows etc etc. Lots of work went into this one and I'm really happy how it looks: More Here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=84746 2. '62 Chevrolet Impala S/S. This was built pretty much box stock from Revell's excellent kit. Only minor modifications were done, but then I added lots of details to the engine, interior and chassis. More Here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=68400&page=1 3. '69 Dodge Charger Daytona Cannonball Run. This was built for the Cannonball Run CBP and of course most of the work was done in a hurry as the deadline was coming closer. Anyway I didn't rush it and I'm pretty happy. Front clip was molded as one piece with the front fenders, a couple of other unneccessary items were shaved from the body. I added lots of details to this one & did lots of little modifications. More Here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=96237 Thanx For Lookin'!
  8. Very good looking Firebird! I like the color and those stripes look great on it. Nice detailing in the engine bay as well and I like the wheels a lot. Great looking Pontiac overall.
  9. Santa brought me some really cool stuff... -Black steel wheels for the back and Chrome Reverses to the front for my '60 Impala. -Brian Setzer's Rockabilly Riot All Original. An excellent Rockabilly CD! -Tigers' Story book (It tells about a popular Finnish Rockabilly band Teddy & The Tigers). -New speakers to my daily driver ('87 Chevy Van). They're not the most expensive and the best ones, but as long as they're better than the original speakers I'm happy...Rockabilly sounds always good! -Chocolate (Of course), a pair of new jeans, a couple of shirts etc. And then I got an In Car Camera that I can use on the '74 Chevelle Stock Eliminator when I'm on the race track. I tested it today on my Chevy Van and it works really nicely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3hy7W9Ak9s
  10. I'm glad to hear you got the belly pan installed properly. I can't wait to see this one done as it's looking very good already, but I just hope you can solve the problem with the pics. And Merry Christmas!
  11. Thanks so much, Christian! Yes the body looks really smooth after molding that front clip as one piece with the fenders and shaving a couple of other things. I like it too, thanks!
  12. Count me in with Small Block Chevy Powered Trabant. First I thought about building a '57 Chevy in a bit rusty & crusty condition, but I thought that it wouldn't fool everyone. So what would be better than really slow, smoking, two stroke engine powered Trabant, I thought and decided that I'm going to install a Small Block Chevy under the hood. It will have a single turbo setup.
  13. An excellent post, I agree completely !
  14. Yep they are really great kits. Especially the Mustang but that Pickup is a great kit too.
  15. This is absolutely a must have kit. I can see two of these coming my way when they're available. Factory Stock version and then a true Red Neck Pickup will be built here. Yours is a great inspiration and the kit looks really good. Excellent paint and assembly. I can see nothing wrong with it, so this is an excellent build.
  16. I visit in these Truck sections quite rarely, but I'm glad I did so I didn't miss this one. Beautiful work as always Marcos, the paint job on that cab looks very good and I like the flatbed area too. In the pics it looks like real thing... Great job.
  17. Very smooth and stylish Custom Car! Paint colors look excellent as well as your paint job. This is a bit different than the other '36 Fords that I've seen and that's a really positive thing. I'm not crazy about the fender skirts, but otherwise this is just like I'd want mine in 1:1 scale.
  18. I've never tried it either and I'm really interested in seeing if I can make it or not. But yep I really have to try that effect somewhere before shooting paint on the Fiat body. Here's a good chance to post an update, too. Nothing much done but I thought these pics might be worth posting anyway. I got the intake manifold and carburetors installed. The fitment was really good, except that the carburetors were a bit problematic to get straight. I'm pretty happy about them though. Paint on the carbs is Revell #91 Silver and over that I mixed some Humbrol's Clear Orange and dirty thinner to give those carburetors a light golden look.
  19. Santa brought me Revell's '90 Mustang LX Drag Racer and AMT's '78 Ford Pickup 4X4. Also a bottle of flat black and a couple of paint brushes. I really can't wait to get started with these (It will happen tomorrow, BTW ). The Mustang will be Top Street Drag Car with Drag Radials and a Small Block Ford with a couple of Dominators and NOS. Pickup will represent a rebuilt and just finished "Light Commercial Vehicle" in a good condition.
  20. Yep! Not many racers have gone ice racing with their Pro Mod cars, but Freddy did that too. The T-Bucket is really cool (and different) hauler for sure: I believe finding pictures of the frame is hard. It's highly possible that these pics don't help at all, but I have two shots without the nose clip: Edit: Do these pics help?
  21. I always like to see your builds. They are so nice and clean and unique subjects are always a big pluspoint. These look very good. Especially I like that '60 DeSoto with the paint job and overall finish. It just stands out from the others even if they are very well done too.
  22. Black would work very well, too...
  23. I'm glad to help. I don't know the Testors paint colors, though, as those paints are hard to find here in Finland. All I know is that Humbrol's #53 works well on those spokes. Good work on the engine. Nice details!
  24. I've seen that some of the earlier castings are not perfect and require more cleanup than the newer ones. I have bought a couple of bodies that had been damaged in the molding process and they were actually so good that I had to go and ask Juha what was the problem with them. Only minor flash was present in my '59 Simca Vedette, it was easily removed and then the body required no filling or anything. Just a light wetsand before paint. Same thing with my '56 Studebaker and '69 Chrysler 300C.
  25. Wild, Creative and Cool... Just like Ira's builds always are! I really like how the tires look when they are outside the bodyline. It makes the model look more aggressive in my opinion and it fits perfectly on this one. I'd really like to see this at a Drag Strip.
