I really dig that paint job, too! In scale Flakes or out of scale Flakes, doesn't matter as it looks very good like that. I like the opened rear fenders as well, they give it a more aggressive look than if the tires were installed inside regular fender openings. Color combo works well too. Great job.

Craig Clements "Head Hunter" : new project 4/16/14
W-409 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Another truly amazing build in the works here! Every time I see a new update, my jaw finds its' way on the floor, even though I know it's gonna be an awesome update. Great work with the chassis and engine, they both look very good. But the alternator bracket caught my eyes, too. I could swear it is a Photo Etch part if I didn't know that you made it yourself. Rock on, John! -
This turned out very nice. Your 1:1 car looks very good, just my style as I like body color Steelies with Dog Dishes a lot and those Drag Radials on the back finish it off very nicely. Your model is really nicely done, too. Great paint and great detailing all over, it's nice to see people paying that much attention on the chassis, too as I know some people don't. Overall this is an excellent replica, good job!

I try to read everything, but that doesn't always happen. Actually I seem to ignore the Trades and Wanted sections pretty often, but that's probably because I live here in Finland and trading gets way more complicated if I step in the game as we need to send stuff across the Ocean. I follow Drag Racing Models, NASCARS and Car Kit Reviews-sections almost daily on here. They are my favorite categories, especially the Drag Racing Models. What I don't follow that much is All The Rest, Diecast Models and Trucks-sections. Well, on those I visit in Trucks the most, but especially All The Rest and Diecasts are something I click on very rarely. However, this doesn't mean I wouldn't read the threads, because actually I do. Not just that often. All other categories are being followed a couple of times in a week, depending on the amount of spare time I have. But especially On The Workbench and Under Glass categories are something I try to read through a couple of times in a week, others can be like once a week, too.

Thanks for the information and comments! Bill: I wonder about the hood scoop. According to Jonh's information, the car has two Carter AFB's, I wonder where the scoop is mounted in... I see no hole on the hood where the scoop would be sticking through, to me the dark grey area in this picture looks more like a shadow of the scoop than a real hole on the hood. Would the 2 Carter AFB's be so high setup that with the scoop it would stick out of the hood like that? John: Great information! I think I'll install those two Carters under the hood, then. I'm really surprised about the amount of information this forum has. It is very good to have knowledge how these things really were, Thanx Guys!!! That hood scoop issue is my biggest concern now... I hope someone would have some information on that one, too...

Thanks Carl! I got a great suggestion on Finnish Forum to change the Blower to more suitable one. And as I had one of these in my parts box, I thought "Why Not". It actually looks much better than the old one, which was a bit too much like the Blowers on all race cars.

Not much done here, I've been building the interior for my 1:1 car and playing guitar... Luckily the interior is pretty much done, so I'll probably have more time to spend with this one. I got the engine back from paint stripping. After some sanding I was able to get the halves glued together. The seam needed only minor cleanup, so I painted the engine block and a couple of other engine parts with Model Master's Chevy Engine Orange. It dried a bit flat, so I clear coated the parts with thinned Revell's clear. Valve covers are painted with Humbrol Metallic #56 as well as the transmission.

Thanks John! I appreciate the kind words.

Thanks for the kind words guys, and sorry for my late reply. I took this picture a week ago, I thought it's pretty neat. It shows all '62 Super Stock cars in our Family. I've built the two on the right hand side and my dad has built the two on the left hand side.

Very sharp looking Dodge! The paint is super nice, but to me the best thing is that BMF. It looks absolutely flawless and in a body like this I know it's not easy to do. Does this have the same 'problem' as for example Jo-Han's '60 Plymouth Fury has that the chrome trims are a bit light and they can get easily covered under paint? If this has, then I appreciate your foiling even more!

Super Nice Fury! One of the best looking Mopars in my opinion and you definitely did it a justice. Great job with polishing the plastic, it looks like painted to me and good job with BMF, too. Very sharp looking Mopar.

1/16 Scale Front Engine Dragster Project - Finished
W-409 replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
This turned out Fantastic!!! I really enjoyed following it come together and the end result is well worth the wait. I can believe how awesome sight it must have been to see this one and John Teresi's Front Engine Dragsters together at the contest table... Your detailing is super nice and clean. The engine looks like it could be fired up any moment! Paint job is really nice, too and the overall look is just perfect. I wish I could do this good job some day. Congrats, this is one of the best Dragsters I've ever seen... In the same category as John's FEDs. Very Nice! -
Really nice '32 Victoria. I have to say that it's really nice to see these in Stock form, too, even if I'm a Hot Rod guy... You did a very nice work with it overall, especially the golden Pinstripe on the body is a nice touch and I like the wheels too. Now this makes me want to build one of these, a Stock version...

Thanks Gents, I really appreciate the kind comments! You're right, my build quality has improved a lot. I still have a lot of stuff to learn and I hope I can keep improving all the time. I hope I can do good job with the '61 Impala OS/S that I just started. Anyway I think it's the little details that make the model stand out. That's why I like to try adding details on my builds and you all are "The Guys" who have inspired me to try doing just that...Thanks!

I got this '65 Valiant Resin Kit a couple of days ago. It's made by a friend of mine here in Finland and is high quality. Mine will be a Street Machine with AMT '71 Duster chassis and engine... PPT '65 Valiant Pics

I've done both ways. Usually I try to clear coat before BMF, but sometimes I have to do it the other way. In Stock Car builds where race numbers often are installed over chrome trim, I have to BMF before decals, which means that I have to BMF before clear coat, 'cause I always clear coat over decals. Another reason to BMF before clear is if the kit that I'm building has very light chrome trim so that they could get hidden under clear coat making BMF almost impossible. The end result looks the same, except that the BMF will stay better on place if it's under clear coat. Though I've never had a problem with BMF flaking off even if it was installed after clear coat.

Thanks Guys! Michael: The biggest problems with that Lindberg's engine are the intake manifold, which looks absolutely horrible. Of course it could be changed, but another problem is the valve covers. Their shape just don't look good to me. But overall, AMT's engine is much better quality... It has more parts, they are sharper and more accurate. The AMT engine is now in paint stripping, but I hope to have it back soon to clean the parts and get some paint on it. There was only one version of 409 available in 1961. It was with one Carter AFB carburetor and made 360 hp. Here is a quote from 348-409.com: "There was only one version of the 409 in 1961. It was the 360hp. It was equipped with solid lifters, high lift cam, and a 4-barrel Carter AFB carburetor. In 1962, a 380hp could be had. More importantly the 409hp 409 with 2 4-barrel Carter AFB's was now available. This is the one that the Beach boys were singing about in '62."

After finishing the '62 Impala Super Stock, it's time to start a new one. I've been planning on starting this one for a while now and finally I decided to put my hands into it. So what I'll build is a Lindberg's Don Nicholson '61 Impala kit that is a bit simple. I have started building this one already years ago, but it kinda stalled because Lindberg's horrible looking engine and other problems... Now I'll try to fix them as my "donor" will be an old built up of AMT '62 Bel Air (Non-Race Car kit). My plan is to use the 409 from that AMT kit and everything else from Lindberg. I have to do some modifying for the engine, however, as there was no option for two 4bbl carbs for 409 in '61. But I believe finding a proper intake is not a problem. I'm not going to build a very close replica of the real thing, but I want to create a car that has the right look and feel so that people can recognize that it's a Dyno Don's car. I have good pictures from outside the car, but I have no idea about the engine. I see there comes a scoop through the hood, so I'm wondering what kind of intake manifold has been installed under the hood. If anyone knows this, it would be a very good information. This is what I'll be using: Lindberg '61 Impala and AMT '62 Bel Air built up that I bought a couple of years ago. "Let's uninstall the engine...." Here is a comparison between Lindberg's poor 409 and AMT's much better 409. I built the Lindberg engine to that point years ago until I realized that it's way too poor quality to be installed under the hood of this beautiful car. Especially the shape of the intake and valve covers is not good, but it is really simplified overall. It can be installed somewhere where it can be hidden. These parts will go to the paint stripper... I've painted the interior poorly also, so I need to re-do it as well. Interior pictures of the real car would be fine, too, if someone would have them. I don't know what areas of the seats should be red or white, or if they shouldn't even be two tone... Thanks for lookin' in, I'll update as I go. So if anyone would have info/pics of the engine or interior, I'd highly appreciate it.

Thanks So Much, Everyone!!! Ron: I'm glad I could inspire you to start yours. It's a really nice kit that goes together very well. I'm sure it'll turn out fantastic with your talents, I'm pretty sure it'll be way better than this one. I can't wait to see it. Jason: Yep it definitely feels very good to have this kind of a long project done. You must have had the same feeling when you finished the Hemi Cuda. I must admit that this Impala looked pretty good at a Model Car Show that we have now in here. Stefan: Ja, '62 Impala är en mycket fin bil. Jag tror att mitt favorit är '63 men alla X-Frame Chevrolets är fina. (Yes, '62 Impala is a very nice car. I believe that '63 is my favorite, but all X-Frame Chevrolets are very nice.) Thanks Again everyone, I really appreciate everyone's comments! They sure keep me going.

James: Thanks! It's always good to have a bit humor on these Forums, too . That gave me a good laugh! Dave: Thanks, I'm happy with the paint, too. Painting white causes me problems fairly often, so considering that I'm especially happy how it turned out. The decals could be better, but it's not too bad. Jason: Thanks. It's nice to build a more detailed build now as my last one, the '61 Olds STW wasn't as detailed as this one. Danno: Thanks! It means a lot, especially when thinking how talented builder you are. This build is officially Finished! It definitely feels great to complete a long project like this, also because I lost the inspiration a couple of times because of some kind of issues this build had. I want to say a huge Thank You for everyone who has been following this Super Stocker come together, but especially I want to thank those who have posted a comment/comments! I really appreciate them all. Here are some pictures of the finished Impala.

Thanks Guys! The kind words mean a lot!! I agree, it's one of the best looking Chevrolets of all time, which means that it's one of the best looking cars of all time as well. And this Revell's kit is top notch. It's getting really close now and the light at the end of the tunnel is getting really bright now, as I have only a couple of parts to install tomorrow and then it's done. Today I installed almost everything. Water hoses, one decal, mirror and a couple of details are missing, but otherwise it's done. Only problem I had was with the front bumper and grille, or actually the body color panel between them. It didn't fit nicely on neither the bumper nor the grille. I was able to get it on place somehow, though. Everything else went nicely on place. I also polished the hood. Here is my only pic'... The polished hood. "Studio Pics" of the finished build will be added tomorrow once it won't take long time to wrap it up.

Don Garlit`s: Swamp Rat 33 Streamliner 1/28/14
W-409 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Your next build... This is even harder than the fella behind the mask... But I'll try: The Volvo Hemizon from Sweden? ' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vrJWpHnJcA http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/05/rat-finks-zombie-nightmarethe-volvo-hemizon/ -
Thanks Ron, I appreciate it! Some more work done today, actually I got pretty much done and it's getting really close now. I started by installing the Rear View Mirror and interior lights as well as sun visors inside the body. Then I installed a tachometer and its' cable that's made from Scale Dreams' stuff. I also connected a couple of wires to firewall and finally I put the body and chassis together. The fitment was excellent. Looks like the closeup shots are looking horrible... Well anyway I'm planning on finishing this thing in a day or two.

Pro Mod "Motown Missile" FINISHED! 4/6/14
W-409 replied to am73grand's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
That turned out really nice, Ron! Your builds are always very interesting and this style cars are really cool: Almost Stock body and a huge engine sticking through the hood. A well executed, very cool and unique build like this is a piece of art. Nice detailing!
