  1. Aksarben is Nebraska spelled backwards. Welcome Steve, what part are ya from?
  2. If this is what's coming....I am going to get me one or few. can you say Kustom?
  3. Thanks for your input guys. I have defeated the old paint! I ended up attacking it with Alcohol, which didn't seem to do anything. Then I attacked it with Easy Off twice and it loosened up pretty good...then finally stuck it back into the purple lake like I did in the beginning. After the last removal from the lake, it scrubbed off like it should! It was a battle, but now I can start working on the model finally.
  4. I forgot I have some ELO (Easy Lift Off). I might give that a shot. It's working with the oven cleaner, just taking longer than I am used to with the purple lake. I know DOPE isn't the brand of paint, I know it's still available because I ordered it for Hobby Lobby when I worked there. Usually old paint will come right off in 30mins or so in the purple lake. This stuff is taking several hours and force with a tough toothbrush and Easy Off.
  5. Thanks for the replies.....Charles.....DOPE is still made and I never thought that might be it? Thanks, I will do some research on that one. On a side note...two sessions with Easy Off and some scrubbing, I got the seat and bed cover cleaned up! I might have to work at it more than I am used to.....but it's still good to learn.
  6. I have stripped many times, different types and ages of paints. This time around I have no luck. I don't know what the paint is, but I can't get it to budge with Castrol Super Clean, 91% Alcohol or Easy Off with the fumes! Let's say the build is from 1963ish.... what types of paints were common? Formulas changed over the years. I get the feeling this stuff is OIL based....but I am not sure. Anyone have similar aged paint that went through this? What did you use to remove it? Thanks for any help or suggestions!
  7. Guys, look at the dates on this thread? I probably deleted those photos from my fotki account long ago. When you delete or move photos around in your photo site, you are hosting from....they disappear from everywhere. Sorry, but little did I know this thread would be brought back up. Quick edit... RodBurNeR, on 01 November 2009 - 08:35 PM, said: some shots together....black roof is the Revell/Monogram I switched hoods so you can see the Revell hood falls through the AMT body. By the way, the front of the hoods are not even shaped the same, to make a switch either way you will have to add or remove plastic and reshape the hoods and cowl.
  8. Thoughts and Prayers from the Black household.
  9. I do like everything about it ,other than the engine...it shocked me haha! So this is a vintage long bed on a newer issue '60? I never thought about doing that. I have an original '60 with a bad cab...hmmm thanks for the idea!
  10. Very cool!
  11. Older kits is mostly what I end up building. I have a lot of screw bottoms that need restore and chrome redone or missing parts. The stuff I want is as listed.... '66 Chrysler hardtop '59 Pontiac hardtop '60 Edsel hardtop '59 Buick hardtop '58 Pontiac hardtop many more..but these are high priority
  12. I had no idea, thanks for the pics!
  13. It came today, well yesterday actually....I took it to work with me. I enjoyed Bill Coulter's article and Brad's art! I liked a couple models from NNL West also. Steve Travis' '29 Ford looks great!
  14. I could be wrong, but I thought I heard the '48 Ford would come with the chop top as an option? I am all for the chop though! Isn't it this kit with new tooling options?
  15. I don't care what ya do personally. However, since you asked. I like what Harry has going for his list, but if it was my forum and it's not....rants n' raves would be gone. If people really have to say something, they could say it in General....not to mention, not having a place specifically for these subjects..would make the drama levels go down a bit I think. Also, it should go unsaid that certain threads don't need to be pinned for the rest of our lives on this forum do they? Several of the pinned threads are all towards the same purpose....such as "forum control". I suggest making ONE thread for enforcing the rules, and just add to it when ya need to say more. Another thing that bugs me is having categories with boards named the same thing? Why not just make a category for Miscellaneous and put all of these boards under it? Examples.... Those categories and the pinned threads really bug me. I know this isn't supposed to be a rant...but this is what I see that needs attention. Oh and "Where's Waldo?"....again, my personal feelings... I could care less who is looking for who. If someone wants to find someone, they could easily post under "General". These are my thoughts....kill me if you will.
  16. I like this a lot, nice job!
  17. WOW!! Ted you locked this one up! I am in love, totally love it!
  18. Hi everyone! I decided after many months of lazy thinking , it was time to build a new site just for the instructions site. I didn't get much feedback when it was integrated in my club's forum, so I thought it best to seperate it and make it exclusive. The site has been up for nearly 5 years and has been extremely active. I have been lucky to find so many helpful modelers out there! Every time someone needs help, someone comes to rescue. Instead of letting those scans or photos go to waste, they are saved in archives and divided up on the web site for easy access. Never pay for an instruction sheet again! There are hundreds of sheets sitting here at my home and bunches more in my email box to load. When I have time, I update the site and I like to let people know what is "new" on the site. The link I am giving you is a place you can request, submit and read about the updates. You can also discuss these subjects. I hope to see you there! http://modelinstructions.proboards.com/index.cgi?/
  19. Drop dead gorgeous build! That color and quality of the build...just too cool, thanks for sharing! I would love to have it on my own shelf, awesome!
  20. welp...not sure if these were posted. I am a member of about 30 forums, but these are the ones I visit daily. (including MCM) http://trakinscale.proboards105.com/index.cgi http://drasticplastics.proboards53.com/index.cgi http://coffincorner.proboards.com/index.cgi?
  21. '50 has won my heart, very nice work!
  22. Nice job Billy, you are right...don't see these often. Congrats on building a vintage kit too!
  23. This stuff is amazing! I have been using it for a few years on weathered projects or just whatever needs it. It's a chalk that many military modelers use. You can push the end of your brush handle into it to crush it loose and then use the brush to "poke" into it. The bristles will pick it up and then you can dab it into the smallest places or brush it on. It sticks actually, but don't touch with your fingers or you will see finger prints. Check into it, I am sure it's available at your LHS. It's applied on this whole car. Bases were enamel Testors "rust" and semi gloss black. Another option is to "spit" some flat or semi gloss black from an airbrush or flick it off the end of a fine brush. (thinned out of course) I hope this helped.
  24. Wow! That's nice looking! Great color combo!
