How about some inspiration?
RodBurNeR replied to RodBurNeR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
thanks for the reply's guys! I got emails too, very cool! I think I have it in mind now what to do. I won't say just yet, but I have already dumped a bunch of stuff in the box with it to be used. In the beginning , I was going to build it up to get it done....just to get it over and be involved in the challenge. Now I have decided to build it as if it's a car I love! I am getting excited , so let the paint fly! Will start a thead on the bench soon. -

Casey, I like the 1:1 you sent link for! I also like the idea of doing it '60s mild ...even if it's not really a good year it might look pretty cool! PM sent, thank you much! evilone, not a bad idea either....but I bet they would call me a wuss for taking shortcuts lol davezinn....yeah really a muscle car! I guess this is a good way to get out of my funk though. I have been struggling to get something done. thanks everyone! -

This is the one from last year. We displayed them at our Mid America Summer Nat's show in July. People voted and the winner got $5bucks from each entrant and I think a trophy? The only thing mine was missing was a windsheild, so I made one out of another one I cut down to fit. all pics of it in progress, I did a lot of detailing, scratching and bashing http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...o/1983-mustang/ Here is how it looked at the show... here are photos of everyone else's models. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...nd-annual-mid-/ This year , it's the same thing. They are due for October for our Omaha swapmeet/contest. -

Tom , if it was ONLY a '69......I would! -
I got into a challenge again with 9 other guys from Omaha. At the show yesterday, we all bought a POS for under $5 to put in the pot. We all drew numbers after the show and pictures were taken of each build. Whatever number you drew, you ended up with that model. The rules are to rebuild it to "nice as you can" from a POS glue bomb, built up/junker. You may not like what you end up with, but the rules are rules.... I ended up with a '70 Plymouth GTX and NO am sorry, but I am not a muscle car guy....but I have built some before. What I would like is if anyone can help, I need some COOL reference. I don't want to build it stock and don't want to build it muscle. If anyone has photos , ideas or what-not's... I would appreciate them. thanks! here is what I have to work with.... MISSING dash board, steering wheel MISSING air grabber from hood MISSING 3 wheels MISSING engine Now, the car was SUPPOSED to be complete, so yes I am griping a little.

I would be lying if I didn't totally think I blew it today. I am being honest when I say that the whole day was GREAT! However , I got pretty choked up during the awards and fumbled up because I got nervous. I am human, so I guess.... I didn't think it would be so hard to talk about Elden Titus and the meaning behind the award to be presented? I could not do it. I want to thank Ellis Kendrick for being there to help me out. He took over and did a great speach on behalf of the club and explained very nicely how Elden was and what it was to get the award in our eyes. Thank you Ellis, I don't think I could have said it better (even if I had not choked) Being my second year in running a contest/now an NNL, I guess I didn't do too bad...but I am feeling pretty hard on myself because of the awards flub up's. Not laying a pitty party down....I just don't feel right acting like it was a breeze. Not only did Ellis step in on the microphone, but Tom Cowles and Russ (last name?) from the KC Slammers were a great help! Tom helped me count ballots which made it go much faster, thanks Tom you are a pal! Russ helped out with the decision as to who should get the Elden Titus Memorial plaque. It was unanymous to choose John Smiley's '62 Thunderbird Custom. The car was the best out of all to be what Elden would have liked concerning "construction, profile, style and execution". Congrats John! Best in show, Best Detail and Best in Theme went to Alyn Lyon for his '32 Ford, CONGRATS! We had a lower number in entries compared to last year, down by about 30. That is understandable with the economy. I did get higher hopes , but I can hope for next year......SO I HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! PHOTOS.... http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...ic-plastics-nn/ Tom Cowles, glad ya made it!

what is SA?
-
not sure, mine was molded in white and according to one of them "price guides" mine was a first issue...so I am glad because I don't collect anyways.
-
Dave Zinn....nice work on the article buddy!
-
I actually used the chassis, but I don't look under my models on the shelf lol The real problem you will have is fitting the glass and interior tub. Put the glass in and interior tub with dash.....you will see that the tub needs to go "up" more and the glass needs shaved.

Got mine yesterday too! Awesome issue! Finally something better than bills in the mail box!

Have been a member there for awhile. It's the best place to go for traditional 1:1 for sure. They do have some modeling spots, but I think Traditional Rod and Kustom in scale has it all under one roof for modelers into the Traditional styles. http://thedpmcc.com/trak.html

-
I have gotten quite a few emails about this, so it's a good sign!
-
I saw the title "unemployment" and thought ...hmm, what kind of model would be named this way? I seriously didn't expect to see this horse caca. What surprised me is there are actually responses

I would like to add for you Jantrix....as for an NNL show, there is not a single person not qualified to enter. NNL is not a judged contest, it's a gathering of modelers sharing and enjoying this hobby. I tell ya what, it's a friggen' blast is what it is! I have had way more fun at NNL's than any other kind of show! The atmosphere is much more laid back. Each time I go to one, no matter which one....it's nothing but laughter among friends and getting to know more guys like ourselves. I might not be completely hitting the nail here....but that is a hint of what it's like. Contests with judging from my experience.....are too serious. There is always someone mad and calling so and so a cheater or something....basically can't ever make everyone happy. (not bashing contests, they are still a great way to get out and have fun!) NNL however....from what I have noticed, nobody even cares about the awards. I really enjoy these shows! You should give them a shot, you would be surprised. (I recommend to anyone that loves this hobby, you will have a good time and make friends...it's a social event) Don't let GSL confuse you with NNL.
