Wow! This is a super nice build! I love the color and it's all built very clean!

I got my very first subscribed issue of the best model car magazine on the planet today! December #137 2008. This is a real nice issue, I enjoyed the article "Full Steam Ahead". I was also really stoked to see our club flier on page 55. Talk about a nice ad for the DPMCC NNL coming in February! I was not expecting it to look that nice, thank you Gregg Harry.....wow! Is that a drawing or a REAL car? awesome!

What Brand is the best?
RodBurNeR replied to JeepJeepers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One thing I should have said. Don't expect a perfect kit from any of the manufacturers. Every single one of them requires work and some of them take a real modeler to build them....while others it takes an assembler complete out of box. If the kit is too much of a pain to build, try a snap kit or something that is not a challenge.... Bottom line, if you want something to take out of the box and assemble with no effort and a nice appearance.....they do make diecast, prepainted and detailed kits which require a screwdriver and no skill. With that said AMT is sometimes a challenge...but they have a lot of great subjects and still harness a lot of the "good ole' days" of modeling when people had to work at them for satisfaction. -
What Brand is the best?
RodBurNeR replied to JeepJeepers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Opinions will vary on this subject. Really what matters is the model you want to build, versus who makes it. Sometimes more than one company makes , or has made the same model kit. The choice of the two depends on your expectations. One might have more quality and detail, while the other is less and still satisfying. There are literally hundreds of companies that make kits either aftermarket or store bought. Many different brands are no longer available since going out of business either recently or years ago. Check this site to kinda surf some of the more well known brands. www.thedpmcc.com/instructionsintro.html My personal likes are AMT MPC REVELL TRUMPETER JOHAN IMC ITALERI GALAXIE Granted all brands I listed are not liked by everyone, I like the kits I have. There are more brands that I want to try out like AOSHIMA, FUJIMI and TAMIYA. WELCOME BACK TO THE HOBBY! -
nice work Kenny! I had an original if you remember and I sold it because I lost interest in it....but I still like this car. Yours came out really nice and cool seeing this car built.

Boy....I don't know? One of my favorite kits because of the box art was the AMT 1967 Ford FairlaneGT. I bought a vintage build up, with box and got repro decals when I was running Gooche decals' site and I built it.....more like restored it and built like the box art. I don't know why I liked it so much, I was not born until '74 so it's not from my childhood. I have always liked older stuff anyways. The Fairlane doesn't have the exact shade of blue on the body and it's not foiled....I just wanted to see it built and didn't take time to foil it or black wash either. I have other kits that mean a lot to me, most all are FORDS haha!

judge ... new guy visit
RodBurNeR replied to sticky finkers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Neat idea! Why not build models after this one? You are 50, but I think 90% of the modelers are over 50 and many into their 70s even. I am 34. -
i can't think of everyone right now but Dave Darby and Mike Kollver come to mind. I have met Mike and seen his builds in person, he is a very good builder. Dave and I have emailed many times , but not so much recently and he has shared his box art builds through his fotki site. One thing I was educated on while talking to Dave was the fact none of the models he built had windows in them. They airbrushed the windows on the photo, something to do with glare in photos.

Forum Board dedicated to scale model restoration
RodBurNeR replied to Mj-Styro's topic in Links to Aftermarket Suppliers
I am a member and moderator on Mj's board. it's subject "specific" so it doesn't take away from any other boards. I would love to see more vintage restoration/rebuilds on there. I post often.....as i do on most all forums I am a member. come on over and smell the vintage plastic burn! -
you have some great looking builds!

thank you! yes that was about $5.00 to build. I prefer to buy a much nicer setup, but for practical home use on internet sharing....it works just fine. -
My first attempt at True-Flames.
RodBurNeR replied to MR BIGGS's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
better than I could do! I still have not used my airbrush more than twice, so I have to get used to it. I have been a rattle can guy for years. I think you did great for your first time, but since I have no experience I can only offer my view. To me it almost looks like watered down , blown through a straw flamage...not cutting your effort down at all! I don't know if it will help, but if you want I can post some pics of other ones and of a template that is made? Up to you....just being honest and like I said , it's much better than I could do....you will get it down though.....just look at the 300 MURAL you did! Keep at it, I am sure you will be the next best flamer....no wait that didn't sound right. j/k bro -
Digital photography set up
RodBurNeR replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At home mine is very cheap and simple. Here is how I made mine and what it looks like. I really like to use this because it's light and stuffs away easily. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc...ing-a-cheap-ph/ These are some photos I acheive with it. Keep in mind quality has a lot to do with lighting, backdrop and your camera....what settings it has and how you have it set up. I use a Kodak P850 and have Aperature settings on F8. Sometimes the color of a car will throw off things a little, so I might switch to Auto and use Macro with "fill" flash on. I chang all the time especially "at home". My biggest thing is lighting. I can have my camera set up to take great pics, but if the lighting is bad the pics will not be that good. -

Great thread and thanks for the links to Amazon! I need to get one of those -
depends on when you email Steve. he works a full time job on top of running his business, he may not get your email until 11pm or there abouts. if the body is listed on Star Models site, then it's available. I live by him and have helped inventory, but i don't remember seeing the kit ....but that only means that it was not something of interest to me so I don't remember what it looks like.

I look forward to you being here! By the way, I saved this car from being broke. A kid walked along the edge of the table, reached out and put his thumb on the driver door and middle finger on the passenger door.....was about to squeeze together to try and shut the doors! I gently grabbed him and told him DON'T TOUCH....he walked away quickly. See ya in Omaha!

Could it be the one Elden was holding? I took this photo.

Can anyone tell me what this started as?
RodBurNeR replied to kk916's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No idea, but I want to say it's super ugly......no offense, my opinion. Maybe if it was painted red and white, put a big plush seat in the bed for Santa Claus' new sleigh? KWARF!
