  1. thank you! yes '53-'55 Olds were 3 bar like this.. the lancer is what i used.....see i am really tired and dont know what i was thinking lol now i have to go edit all my posts! haha
  2. Well i finally got this sucker done tonight, thanks to Dave Kelley for the headlights and taillights! ;D This is what i started with, it was a glue bomb and most of the suspension parts did break taking it apart. I repaired a lot of them parts including the front axle, hair pins and radius rods. I did a little scratchbuilding when i made the shifter and cut the carb throats from other carbs to glue onto these. Modelhaus tires, Old kit Lancer caps. Modified the "wheel off" Buick drums that used to come in the 3n1 kits and used them as part of the wheel backs on the front. Can't think what hood ornament that was, but i cut it down and filed it to fit on the grille shroud since the "stock" one was busted. Painted Mystic Marroon by Testors, built as a Traditional late 50s Rod. here it is with a new life!
  3. top notch as always! this is sooooooo nice , i love the wheels on it and it's perfect "traditionalism" at it's best!
  4. nice build! i have to admit that does look good and now i want one! how was it to build? tips on kit to bash with etc?
  5. For the last couple weeks i guess i have not been able to view images. I could only see links with the IMG tags. I thought something was up with the forum, but it wasn't the forum. I went to My Controls then to Options and to Board Settings and found the option "Do you wish to view images in posts, such as smilies and posted images?" ........ mine was turned off, but not by me. I turned it back on and i see all images now. I thought some others might have this problem and this is how to fix it , at least in my case.
  6. I was just saying that i understand where you come from. I am not afraid, i go to shows all the time and have a blast!
  7. Can't blame you there Ken. I would take someone to the ground for stealing mine. Stealing another modelers models is a NO NO and it's too bad that it does happen and for what?...take it home and put in a shoe box and feel guilty? take it home strip parts off you could have bought for a little of nothing? These theives ruin people's trust and interest. I will never understand what the point in stealing a model is. It's not like you can show it to anyone? It would eventually come to taking unidentifiable parts off and trashing the rest....how stupid. Strange there are 1/25 car theives.
  8. WOW! gorgeous build!
  9. welcome! I too could use some tips on air brushing. I have a badger 360 only used once and need to see and read stuff to help me learn. Thanks for joining!
  10. an old post....have to click on the picture links for some reason i can't see any photos on here lately. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...amp;hl=awbcrazy
  11. thanks Gregg! all nice photos!
  12. I just wanted to add how eager guys are to allow me the handling of their models at shows. Well....i take pics of their models for Model Cars Mag and they are delighted to have me pick them up, turn them around, remove the hoods, flip them over and breath hard on them HAHA!! Sorry but this thread made me think of that.....how anal it's getting here. I don't think anyone should pick up or touch a model without permission. That is why cards are laid out by the models , so it's up to the owner if they want "interaction". I must say, many of the models i took photos of were extremely detailed, flawless masterpeices in which i could not put value on.....but i would guess some of them could easily fetch a thousand dollars on eBay or to the right guy. In my opinion , if you didn't want your models touched because something might get broken.......might leave them at home? What if the table got bumped and the sign got knocked over, or what if someone was setting their model up and caught yours on their jacket and slingshot it yours to the floor?........ this CAN and DOES happen. My word for the wise: If you are willing to bring your models to a show.....you are willing to take a chance. Some kid may grab your model, some adult may finger it up a little.....judges will pick it to death in the palm of their hands.....it's just the way it is.......though we don't like it........we can't always stop it. On the other hand it's a real pleasure taking photos as i am able to see the best up close and personal.....as well to get to know the builders and i have a genuinely good time with the experience! Each person has been very nice and have even had some insist that i pick them up and check out things because "they can be put back together" ;-) It's a hobby guys.....not an artifact convention.
  13. while this is pretty true, i thought you might like to know that is how Dave B. Model King got a lot of kits going by borrowing parts trees, whole kits or whatnot to get them complete and correct re-issues. he probably bought a lot of them too. i dont collect myself, but if anyone needed kits or parts to aid the restoring an old kit for re-release....i would do it and yes i have many vintage kits.
  14. thanks for sharing, some very nice builds with details!
  15. here and there Johan has brought stuff back though. stuff is still being sold at least, because i see Okey at shows and Star Models was selling some at shows. i guess the real deal is that Johan is putting a ??javelin?? out soon and will have a photo etch set. this is not a rumor. has anyone bought a '55 pontiac? this is a johan made of plastic....one of the several still available from Johan. http://images38.fotki.com/v1218/photos/5/5...100_7612-vi.jpg
  16. I know you came from there, but there was another guy from there and i can't remember the name? this next show i am expecting people from Illinois,California,Kansas,Colorado,North Dakota, Missouri,Montana,South Dakota, Iowa and i am sure other states but none i can confirm at this point. not sure how large it's going to be.....but it's gonna be worth the trip!
  17. GREAT! seems strange, but it usually isn't snowing at the time. what i WILL do though is update this post as it gets close with WEATHER here and stuff. :-)
  18. Ken, thanks for your point of view and the neat stories! i would love to see what you have built if you want to send me photos or a link to them? i really dig old kustoms and such from back in them days!
  19. I guess it would depend if he is copyrighting the image to protect his "scans" or photos of the originals? Maybe the person is also protecting not only his scans but the interest of the original photog. Hard to say.....but if there is such things going on, would it not be worth pointing us in the direction to see? I would be interested since i am a photog and wonder if anything i took would be there? thanks
  20. if it was me i would do what i wanted. slicing history is something to take in one wind and blow with the other. i understand preservation, but it's yours...will it be worth anything when you die? (to you that is) 59 galaxies all the time on ebay under 40bucks and usually about 30 in built condition like you have. will it even survive to another person? will the next person actually cut it up anyways? think about it......
  21. after only 3 weeks? how long have you been building? heck there was months at a time i didn't build, but always came back to it. this happens to all of us. they call it builders block, burned out or whatever.... too much repetition does that to a person, no matter what they are doing. if i may make a suggestion? try putting the stuff you normally do aside and build a model you would never have done before. i don't build new cars, but i did give it a shot once and actually was having fun with it. i didn't finish it though, it only took one anal guy on SA board to ruin my motivation. needless to say i don't go there anymore, but not because of him. it's difficult to try something new out and share with people. it seems there will be someone right there to say you are not doing it right. you build mostly lowriders? what up with the deals and trades? if you have bad deals or people waiting on you for stuff, i can see why you are feeling this way. nothing like guilt on your mind to ruin a fun hobby. if i am wrong, just say so.
  22. True. Bill Hines i think is 83 or 84, Gene Winfield is 82 i think, George Barris is 82 i think. All these guys were at the KKOA this summer and i met them. Elden was the younest at 60. Age has no discrimination that's for sure.
  23. nice site, helpful and ideas in there too!
  24. yes! have never been there, so i gotta!
