larry, screw blowers are legal pro mod. just not in NHRA pro mod and you may find that rule changing in the near future. there is more than one sanctioning body for pro mods. if you are really interested in building an "accurate" car. find the rules that better suit your build and use those. of course, if accuracy isn't what you are really trying for. have fun with what ever you decide to build.

glad to hear that henry. got the other collector done. pretty happy with the results. the scale on these works out to a 2.5" primary (which is a little small) and a 5" diameter collector. also here's another shot of the dry sump plumbing from the bottom, for those of you that are interested.

the rear wheels and beadlocks are hand machined. as are the rear tires them selves. i think i've hit all the big ticket items. as you can see this is a very labor intensive build. if you want to see more on the build you can view my photobucket. there is a more complete set of pics and most of my other builds are on there. hope this helps get you up to speed.

the front struts are hand machined. front rotors. front brake assy's. i machined the front wheels.
-
the rear axle is made from machined brass parts and soldered together. rear brake rotors are hand machined. assembled rear. again the strange carrier is 3-d printed. i supplied the drawings for this to be accomplished. rear shocks.

tucker, let me bring you up to speed (and any one else who is just joining in) the engine i 100% scratch built from renshape and aluminum. i do all my own machining. i do not own any c.n.c. equipment. this is all done on some very old machinery. block. block and heads braswell 2 bbl. carbs. the bruno unit and the bell housing are hand machined also. while the lenco 2 spd. is 3- printed i still did the technical drawing for the 3-d work to be done.

mitch, the fact you can't see the cage in this car is a testament to the care that was taken to build it. you are right. it is not built to run pro mod. the all steel rear body clip is a dead give away. with a 903 cu in. pat musi motor on 4 stages, you can bet it is an SFI approved design. the car will be running in a class called Big Tire Outlaw. here's a peep of the hidden chassis. hope i'm not stealing your thread tyrone. sorry. the blur in the back ground is doug. he is so fast it's hard to capture him on film! hehe.

started by making a few jigs to hold the tubing in place. one of the jigs replicates the cyl. head for building the headers themselves. i made a second for holding the collector while it is being fitted, epoxied, machined and finally fitted with the collector outlet. i also made a piece to form the collector bends in. i heat the tubing up and place it in the bend and let it cool. that way i get consistent bends to work with. not a finished piece yet but, i think this is probably my best collector to date.

Future of large scale models?
comp1839 replied to LarryT's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
another suggestion would be....... build your own model. there is more than one modeller on this site, that doesn't require any manufactured kit or aftermarket resin piece to build a model car or truck. there is NOTHING like the satisfaction of building your own. -
thanks henry. i'm working on them as we speak. tucker glad to hear you've been inspired. just as an FYI. this isn't a kit. the body was 3-d printed. the rest is hand made. ray, thanks! much appreciated.

Contest Theory: A built models tour
comp1839 replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
geez, harry. i don't know why it matters, why one would enter a contest, since that wasn't the question. Here's my question, do you think it's acceptable for builders to bring a build model to the same show multiple years in a row or should they have a "show circuit"? anyway, forget it. -

the question posed says nothing of winning a contest. -

just a curiosity. how much time / money do you guys have invested in your builds? -
March Meet Drag Race Live Feed
comp1839 replied to moparfan1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yes, it was VERY cool!!!! i couldn't decide which class i liked better. they were all so incredibly cool! i believe this will be broadcast all weekend. towards the bottom. the published the event schedule. that way you can perhaps target a specific eliminator if you want. -
the only update is that i'm workin' on the headers. these will take awhile and will not be easy. the method of construction is the same as building real headers only smaller. it's a process of cutting and mating straights and bends to come up with an appropriate looking piece. also have to construct a collector too.

earl, thanks for the thought! henry, thanks! chris, thank you buddy! the 1/8 scale running engine may not happen BUT, i did start a 1/4 scale version of one of my DRCEII motors. i got started on it and decided that would be a good project to get involved with when i retire. it is really a labor intensive undertaking. so, it's on hold 'til then. scott, thanks!

bob, the welds on the valve covers were accomplished with a special tig weld decal from a company called archer decals.
-
thanks henry! thanks bob! the cylinder head idea is pretty cool. it is definitely do-able. i may have to try that some time. i have already made a crankshaft. 4" stroke big block chevy. 1:8 scale.

the best answer is to checkm nthe rules but, off the top of my head: 1. fuel tanks in pro mod i believe must be mounted up front. 2 brake lines can go through the frame. with a front fuel tank there would be no need to run lines throught the frame. 3 the lines go to a puke tank. when a pressurized intake engine (super charged or turbo'd) has internal damage it gives the pressurized air and oil a place to go other than under the tires. 4 sanctioning bodies control self or remote starting. for instance the NHRA requires self starting. the ADRL did not.

tyrone, looks killer dude! hey, before you put that blown hemi in there i thought i'd show you some pics of a '68 mustang they're doing down at precision chassis. maybe it will speak to you.
-
great stuff tyrone. love how tight you got the main hoop, on the cage, to the body.
-
jason, thanks! and you're half way around the world from me......many thanks!!! bruce thanks a bunch! henry, you are welcome. i'll post some of those pro nitrous motors w/ a pump. hopefully you'll recognize some of the names. dirk, thanks buddy!! chris, always good to hear from you my friend!! scott, i'll take your word about the speechless part. thanks!! now here's a few examples of nitrous engines w/ vacuum pumps. this is jeff naiser's camaro. burton auxier. can't remember who's motor this is. rickie smith. i'm reasonably sure if you look, you'd be hard pressed to find a nitrous pro mod motor w/ out a vacuum pump. i also couldn't find a MMPS without a pump.
-
derrick, stellar effort results in awesome reward!!!!!!!! beautiful my friend.

pump mounted on the motor.
