hi paul. if you're going to build this strictly as a "fun" build. it sounds great and it should be a lot of fun. if your goal is to build something "correct" you have MORE than a ton of work ahead of you.

dave, the .015" wide fins i was referring to were on the valve cover. the fins on the valve cover were achieved with a .032"cutter on .045" centers. that leaves a .13" fin standing. i just call it .015" 'cause it's easier. the ribs on the block, while i could have spent a bunch of time machining out in between each individual rib. it was just a bunch easier to machine the side of the block without the ribs and then go back and install them as separate operation. i hope that helps. as far as finding renshape......i lucked out and bought mine on ebay. it was new in the wrapper and i paid about half the going price for it.

mike, the engine is 1/8 scale. dave, the white stuff is styrene. i put slots in the block and ca glued the styrene webs in.

mike, just so you know. the entire engine is made from renshape not just the block. valve covers to oil pan. renshape is great stuff, if you can get a hold of it.

looks like an awesome kit! while 1/12 is a little small for me. i think i'm seeing a mountain motor prostock in there somewhere!

i've used renshape a lot. it is wonderful stuff to work with. it is machinable and hand workable. i've built the masters for my 417 donovan completely out of renshape. the screwblower and the entire top end of the BAE motor in my TAD. the lenco and the BRT unit in the camaro. my strange top loader rear. i have a 1/8 scale '41 willys promod body master that needs to be finished but, still all of it is made from 440 renshape. also done a ton of other stuff with it. it will hold a .015 wide fin if you are gentle machining it. i've done fins in mickey thompson valve covers, donovan valve covers, electronic boxes (although to hold perfect fins in the electronic stuff i used a higher density since the fins can get really fine.) you do need to prep it a little to paint it. other than that the stuff is wonderful. just my 2 cents worth.

tyrone, that is just too cool! your parts selection (wheels, motor, body...) on this car was simply outstanding. it all works so well together.

chris, excellent workmanship going on here. i don't know if you are interested but, there should be 6 attaching bolts to your lower blower pulley. with all the hard work you're putting into this. i couldn't see not saying something to you. keep up the great work!

for me planning is everything. i can spend months in advance doing research and finding reference material and hand drawing prints. if this is an important build to you, leave nothing to chance and no stone unturned. even when you think you've planned for everything, something will pop-up that you never thought of. poor planning leads to inaccurate detail and you'll only beat yourself up over it later. the level of detail should be what you're deciding along the way. questions like /do i detail the motor - to what level / do i detail the transmission / will it be seen / does it matter to me if it's seen or not? this is the process i use to start out on a model. some will disagree and that's fine. in the end you will need to define your own parameters to build. hope this helps.

greg, i'm glad to see you getting the details "correct". the build is looking awesome!!!! the chassis looks great and the repairs to the body should be spot on. i love the shocks! great work! 1/12 scale is just a load of fun to work in....isn't it?

this is a cirillo mag.

it is an awesome job robert. in case you'd be interested RB motion sells spark plug wire boots that would really dress up your build. cato, it's cirillo mag on the engine not a distributor. if anyone should really be interested, it is in the wrong location. the motor in the dragster is a 426 (at least those are the valve covers on the motor) which has it's distributor location in front of the right valve cover. the location shown would be correct for a 331-354-392 or a donovan. but, that's nit-pickin'. nice build robert.

that's some very nice work you done. you're scratch building looks incredible. it's always interesting, for me, to see others hard work and the fruits of their labor. so post away.

i think you found a great deal jeff. i paid a $100 for mine. i also only used the body. here are some pics of mine. the highlits include a tig welded stainless steel tube frame, an all aluminum 705" big block chevy w/ a lenco and a ford 9". hand machined wheels round out my first 1/8 scale build. i think you'll enjoy this kit immensely no matter how you build it. stock or full blown monster. good luck and great modelling to ya!

i bought some 1/8 photo etch dzus buttons from them at a show. i need more. how does one get a hold of them, other than hoping to see them again at a show?
