It looks real to me, seems much larger than a scale model of any size Impressive work on those details! Very well done ~ hope your arm heals up soon!
-
Wow, love the color choice ~ It looks GREAT!!! Awesome details on this one, very well done!
-
That's going to be sweet when it's finished! I like what you did with the interior, blends in nicely with the rest of the car Interesting technique with the aluminum foil too... and much cheaper!
-
Looking good! That's a great color for the car... I think it would look good in any color really, but that's just me
-
Oh yeah... those interiors look very good for the "lack of detail" you put into them I'm really enjoying your enthusiasm on these builds! Awesome job ~ gives me a much needed boost of excitement for my battered 'cuda build/restore. Thank you!

I must've spent too much time typing away at my opinion on this matter... when I went to post my reply (the first time) it was lost to the internet Anyway, in short ~ I feel the "general" area is already a good place to post non related modeling discussions. There's no need to create another one... we all know this is a site for modeling, if there's something here that doesn't interest you simply don't read it ~ move on to the next thread There will always be drama, many times I have found myself reading a thread only to see it ruined by another member talking "smack" about the builder, completely ignoring their work on the model ~ I guess some people can't help themselves. If you insist on creating another area for general discussion, you should call it "DRAMA" But that won't stop some people from posting in other categories. If it was that easy to avoid certain issues, you might as well create one for "politics" too But some things you just can't get away from... sadly.

Wow! That turned out great... I'm glad to see it's finally finished Awesome job!

With all the detail and patience you're putting into everything else, I'm surprised you're not doing the interior in the same manner... but I know what you're saying Once it's complete it's hard to see the interior anyway ~ I would at least paint the intrument cluster and under dash pedals, since they can be seen if you peek in the side windows... just my thoughts. Anyway, these builds are looking sweet! The detail, time and effort you put into the engine bay alone leaves me in awe ~ just an awesome job on everything so far!

Color me Gone or Disappointed Dodge.

Considering all the trouble you went through, it turned out great! -
Thanks guys... I'm enjoying this one The body work is a little rough, it would scare me too... and does You should see my '92 Dodge shadow, I patched a few rusted holes myself but never did get around to sanding and repainting. Mark, to answer your question... it would indeed be a lot easier to swap the body with another kit but I wanted to restore this one using what I had to work with, only replacing parts that are either missing or too damaged to use again. I would feel bad if I just tossed it to the side, after all the torture and neglect it's gone through over the years. It survived this long, I can at least do my best to bring it back I guess maybe there's some attachment to it as well... it means a lot more to me if I fixed the damage done to it instead of just replacing everything and building a new kit. Plus, it's good practice If all else fails, at least I was able to get some practice in. Caine! Thanks for your help I look forward to receiving your package ~ especially those tail lights! I can't thank you enough... let me know if you need anything, I'll do my best to help you out as well. Rustybill... if this turns out like I imagine it will, then yes ~ it's definitely a keeper. Thanks for all the comments, ideas and thoughts... they are much appreciated!

lol, this is a cool looking build... great job on the mud and dirt Reminds me of a certain '92 Cougar my boss let me drive one day to pick up supplies ~ his was red. It was during a blizzard, the snow was two feet deep... that car was like a sled, no control at all. I often wonder why he would let me drive it in the snow, let alone drive it at all. Couldn't imagine the reaction he'd have if I did wreck it... many opportunities to do so that day Ahhh... the memories

So... started the first stages of the body work this morning ~ J-B Kwik is good stuff, easy to sand and it dries fast, once it cures it's as hard as "plastic" I used some .025" rod for support on the side of the car, thought it would give it some added strength and support. The roof was a little different... seeing how the hole was in the corner of one of the pillars and window frame, I decided to use scotch tape for support. Once the J-B weld dries, I can remove the tape and hopefully have a smooth surface underneath (in the interior area/head liner) There were also a few low spots on the body and a previous crack on the fender that I filled with the same J-B Kwik. I never have any luck with using body putty for models, it's always been J-B weld for me Here's how she looks at the moment... It looks sloppy, I know... but with a little sanding and time, it should come out looking like it once did. I'll let it sit for a day before sanding... hopefully I can get everything ready for paint before the end of the week Thanks for looking!

Your dad must really trust you with your "skilz" to let you build some of these rare kits... but you're doing a great job on them! Keep up the good work

That's going to look sweet! You're putting tons of detail into these builds... can't wait to see them finished I noticed the vinyl top "seam lines" are gone... were they covered and hidden with all the coats of paint/adhesive or did you remove them? I'm planning to give this 'cuda a white vinyl top, just wondering if there was a trick you had in mind.

The chassis has some holes in it, broken parts and all but it should be alright to use... I just need to patch it up The hardest part will be figuring out how to get the engine to sit in place, as there's nothing there to hold it. A little patience and time is all it takes I just sent you an e-mail, did you get it?

I've had this beast sitting out to dry for two days now, the purple power trick worked great! I was impressed at how fast it ate away the old paint... if only I knew about this trick way back when, instead of using gasoline and nail polish remover ~ my models wouldn't have melted away One thing that isn't mentioned in the forums about using the "purple pond" is how harsh it is on your skin... I was scrubbing the model with a toothbrush for ten minutes until my hands started to go numb, then a day later this is what my hand looked like. It's a pretty potent degreaser, strong stuff... The old paint came off within a day, I just let it soak a few more days to make sure I got everything nice and clean. I couldn't believe the results... The damage caused by my childhood needs to be fixed, of course... but that shouldn't be too bad. Here's a photo of the roof, the "bullet hole" looks a lot worse now that the paint isn't hiding the damage... there's a patch already there ~ one of my earlier attempts at fixing it... probably the day I shot it Thanks for all the comments, and interest in this build! It gives me the motivation needed to continue the job I already have a color in mind... but first thing's first ~ I have some body work to do!

Did some minor changes to this 'stang to better resemble the '92... thanks to Mark for pointing these differences out. First, I shaved the headrests down a little ~ this is one detail I missed while browsing through the several hundred reference photos. I just assumed they were correct, being that this was a '92 Mustang kit. Of course, I was wrong... but now they are correct And the steering wheel... this is one thing I did notice but didn't pay much attention to. I figured since the seats were now correct, the steering wheel should be too. The closest thing I had to match was the steering wheel from a '94 mustang. I sanded the airbag bulge down flat and scraped in some lines so it at least looks something like what it's supposed to. Although these changes were minor, they add a lot to the model. It's a better representation of what it should be... that being a 1992 Mustang Thanks for all the input on this one, your opinions mean a lot to me. As always, thanks for looking!

My Uncle gave me this model "several" years ago... when I was eleven years old I redid it then, a quick job ~ but then after a few months, I shot it with a BB gun. So many broken toys when I was young... hammers and matchbox cars, brick walls and G.I. Joes... my foot and star wars figures. I destroyed just about everything I ever owned, sadly... hardly anything survived This 'cuda was all but forgotten until I found it while digging through my spare model parts ~ found as is, missing parts and all. I thought it would be a great model to restore, since some "minor" bodywork needs to be done... haha. And plans I already have it finished in my mind... it's going to be dedicated to a girl I once knew ~ she broke my heart, of course. See my heart here... "♥" ... Yeah, that's shattered now. But what she left me is something I won't soon forget. This 1972 'cuda will be in her honor ~ a muscle car with attitude It's going to be a fun project. Here she is, as of right now... Assuming the "purple pond" refers to the concentrated degreaser "Purple Power" I'm going to give this thing a bath, let it sit in there for a week or so and hope it doesn't damage the body any further than what it already is. And while it's sitting, I plan to fix the seats in my '92 mustang convertible (model) so the headrests are smaller... as they are on '92 mustangs Wish me luck! Thanks for looking...

Why i dont post pictures
nails3825 replied to gray07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I find that posting my finished models on here gives me motivation to better myself... try to do the best I can instead of slapping a model together. We are all still learning new methods, tips and ideas ~ a little criticism goes a long way, each model you build gets better because of it. Nobody will shoot you down here, at least I don't think so... they just give helpful tips to better yourself. I wouldn't worry too much about "not being good enough" because every one of us builds differently, and we all have room for improvement When I'm viewing other builds on here I'm always finding something that makes me ask "how did he do that" and I learn from that... you may have something you're doing too, that others can learn from. You never know ~ so I say post away! -
Looking good! I've been keeping an eye on this post, very interested to see how they turn out... you're doing a fantastic job so far! I saw the tip about using art adhesive for vinyl tops a while ago, but never did it myself ~ so far, it seems to be the best technique Your test subject looks awesome! Maybe I'll use it for this '72 cuda I'm thinking about restoring... soon. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the comments BigBeze and Rick, it took a while to do the tail lights... first I covered the back with BMF and then painted the front the same color as the body. Before the paint had a chance to dry, I used a toothpick dipped in thinner to clean out the grooves ~ after that, I sprayed Testors gloss laquer on them to bring the "red" back out. Make sure you do each one seperately, since you don't want the paint to dry too much before you have a chance to clean them out. I'm sure there's an easier way to do it, NJ-Wayne's idea may work better That's a good tip, thanks.

Hmmm... should I have lowered it? Or maybe built a dodge instead?
-
Good job Brian... we often take for granted our freedom, the sacrifices made to remain that way. It's good to show support, in any way possible. Thank you Do you plan to give this to the base, for display? That would be awesome!

Looks faster than my 'runner... but I'd still be willing to race
