I've been to that show many times, and I enjoy it every time I go. I only live 10 miles north of the center and will try to be there on sunday.

Thanks guys, it's been a while since I posted. I will be posting some progress pics soon, it's time I finished this thing.

Joe I'm still working on the Camaro, I took the summer off and did projects around the house plus some honey-do things. I started finishing the details on the body, basicly getting all the panel lines the same and making the doors, trunk, and hood open properly. Also I still have a few parts too make. Then it will be painting time. Thanks for your interest! Bill

Modelmaking in the professional department is alive and doing well. I've been working in a prototype shop for 15 years now, and the work just keeps on coming. If you like working with your hands and are good at it, modelmaking is a great job too have and will be around for a long time. For all the different kinds of 3-D printing thats out there they all need finishing work, not to mention CNC. It's not always high end work, you do get mundane jobs. It is rewarding and a six figure salary is not out of reach. On the down side there is a lot of stress and tight deadlines. Bill

The shipping is outrageous, 492.00. I estimated the weight to be 150 lbs. it's actually 138 lbs. I don't know where you are located, I guessed south and thats the amount they gave. I would never pay that amount!

This has nothing to do with model cars but is the best place for art related things. I have a model 1000J Artograph (opaque projector) that is outdated but still usefull. It's used for projecting images onto yuor drawing surface for quick sketching. Anyone thats been in graphics before computers should know how it works. It is a large piece of equipment, it slides up and down on a 2"x3" square tube with a lot of counter weight inside and is 93" high. If anyone is interested PM me for this FREE projector? Sorry but I don't deliver!

When I got to work today one of my co-workers found this at a garage sale and gave it to me. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki I work in large scale and haven't built a 1/25 scale for more than 30 years! We will see if my tired old eyes can still do small scale. Bill

Thanks for the replies, I was asked to build one and everyone I asked said nobody made one. I should have asked here first! Bill

I agree with Pete, I build for fun. Adding as much detail as I can keeps me going, and making things functional just adds too the fun. I have never showed my work at shows or contests but I like too see what other builders are doing. Going to contests and loking at some of the great work others do gives me inspiration. I like too spend at least one hour a day building or just thinking of what to make next. This is a great hobby! Bill

There is the Paashe AB, you can touch the part you are painting with the airbrush and paint a hairline. I don't know if they still make that model, the last price that I saw was $325.00 back in the 80's. It is great for detail work. Bill

I still have my Art-O-Graph, and haven't used it in years. Earned a living doing illustrations for the retail end of advertising!

I told my wife I would finish the basemaent if I could have a 1/3 of it for my hobby. I have my shop and the kids have the rest. The kids have been gone for a few years now, so I'm thinking of taking the rest of the basement for myself. Not sure if the wife will agree. Bill

I find that my X-acto knife is fine for cutting styrene, I use a scroll saw to rough cut thick sheet ( .040 and thicker ) and then sand to the final shape. I fine tune all my cut styrene with sand paper no matter what I cut it with. If I need a circle I use a circle template or a compass, I still sand too make it fit. It dosen't matter if you have one sheet or a hundred you still have to cut with the tools available to you. You don't need any expensive tools. Bill
