  1. Hello Fellas.... Well I have gotten a start on the design of the chassis. I ended up working on it for most of the Afternoon correcting the chassis since I wasn't looking quite right. Anyway now that I have it fixed, the chassis is a 168" wheelbase. I have gotten a start on the 392 Iron Block along with a Bell Housing and Lenco shifter. I need to get a move on the rear end so that I can get the placement of it lined up with the motor that way I know where rear end mount needs to be in the chassis. Once I have the rear end drawn up, I think that then I could get a start on the chassis fabrication. Anyway here are a few pics of what the chassis is looking like. Here is an Isometric view of the chassis: Side View: Top View:
  2. Randy... Thanks Buddy!! I am super excited to tackle this in brass. I think it should be fun... I will let you know later... haha. I am hoping that since there is minimal body work as you mentioned that this build won't take me forever to build...lol Dave... Thank you very much my friend. You know I was itching to get a start on this one. Should be a fun one for sure. It was great to catch up with you earlier today, I always enjoy our chats.
  3. Tim... Holy Smokes, the only words that I have is that mock up is flat out Bad Ass..... Wow... So Impressive and Killer my friend.
  4. Johnny Boy... that is looking so good brother.
  5. John... wow Brother, looks like you have the basics of the body all done and all you have to do is sand and add some putty and she is ready for paint. Looking good and impressive for sure, just like the real thing.
  6. Thanks... Dave, I am super excited about starting on this one. I still have some more up front design work I still need to do before I can really get going on this Bad boy but I can't wait. Should be a really fun build.
  7. Thank you... I am getting more comfortable with the Alclad and have been having better results lately. I have taken alot of John Teresi's technic's he has shared with me and tried them out and it's really helped. He is the Master when it comes to Alclad. As far as colors for engines goes... I have a bunch of alclad Aluminums, steel, magnesium, gold, pale gold and titanium. HOK black Base, Mr Hobby Semi Gloss black. It honestly depends on what color I need and what I have in my stash...lol I used alot of the colors mentioned above on the funny car. Most of the chassis I have painted have been different colors or black. I need to do some test spray outs for different steels and similar colors to help me find a color that looks like 4130 chromemoly or close to it as I can get to the raw material.
  8. Chris.... I typically use Zap a Gap (green Bottle) when I glue parts that are painted. In all honesty sometimes it depends on what parts I am gluing because I may use 5 or 30 min epoxy as well. As for the Alclad Chrome I had originally used the Alclad black base and I didn't get very good results personally and I was Lucky enough a long time ago that John Teresi shared his technique with me and how he paints his Alclad and I found what worked best for me was using my HOK black base and then my PPG Omni Urethane clear. My results were much better with that combination. But I will tell you this that your preparation for what ever you are going to Aclad is Key to having a nice finish. sanding and primering and then wet sanding the primer with finer grit worked the best for me. I have never tried the Molotow Chrome before so I can't really compare the two. So far I have been really happy with the Alcad.
  9. The F1 car got pushed to the back burner while I was getting the funny car done for the IPMS Nationals. I will be getting it back to the bench and slowing working on it as I am working on the Triple Dragster build that is going on. I have been looking forward to doing the F1 as a box stock build which I would hope wouldn't take too long to build so I can get another completed model on the shelf...
  10. Hey Brother... you are off to a great start on this. It is looking great so far. Can't wait to see more.
  11. Tim... That seat is gorgeous. You sure have that Plating down. I need to really try an figure it out because you get beautiful results. Mine weren't anything near successful when I tired it for the funny car so I gave up and will practice for the FED... That seat pad looks perfect too. That chassis is just a work of art for sure.
  12. Chris... I am stoked to get back to the Goose... Hopefully going to get some work done on the chassis today. Tim... Thank you so much my friend for the nice words. I can't tell you how good it feels to finally call the Funny Car complete. It sure feels like a weight has been lifted off my back and now I can start some fun builds Randy D... Thanks buddy, looking forward to seeing you at a future show. Will you be making it to GSL next year?? Would be great to hang out with ya. JC... Thank you for kind words and for following along. Dave.... Thank you so much. Now I can get back and focus on the dragster for the 3 Way build.
  13. Tim... Thank you very much. It's going to be a fun build and especially with the personal element will make it even a better build that I will enjoy. I am planning on making this in 1/16th scale and yes I am going to take a stab at the chassis in brass. You and Clay have inspired me for sure to go the brass route. Marty... Thank you so much for the kind words. I am looking forward to getting this one going.
  14. Tim.. that gold base is gorgeous and flawless my friend. I can't wait to see the Kandy red on this bad boy. John is a great teacher when it comes to painting. Looking forward to your next update.
  15. That's a killer build. It looks great and I love the colors.
  16. John... I can't wait until you get back to the bench on this bad boy. it's going to be another Epic build from you!!
  17. Getting back to my Goose Dragster for the 3 way dragster build and starting a 1/16th scale Front Engine Dragster, see:
  18. John Pol... Thank you very much. I sure hope this project doesn't take me 4 years to complete...lol I feel I learned so much from the funny car that just hopefully knock on wood that I dont have many set backbacks but I know certain things that I need to address first so I dont run into issues. Then I won't have to go back and redo everything like I did on the F/C. My thought is that I get a good plan to follow from the start. John... thank you my friend. You know how excited I have been to finally be able to start this build. Hopefully with the game plan it will go smoothly. Jason... thank you. I cant wait to get going on this one.
  19. Scott... thank you very much for the kind words. John... what can I say but thanks Brother. I had a blast with you guys at the Nationals. It feels so good to have this build done. It was like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders just because I have been wanting to start other builds but I wouldn't let myself do that until I was done with this one. I appreciate the kind words, means lot. Ray... thank you very much.
  20. Scott... thank you very much. You reminded me that I ran across a website that had some pics of that restored car. I need to go find it again. I also found I think 2 old black and white pics of this specific car you posted. I definitely know it's their car because of the shape of the fuel tank. I just never remembered that car or ever saw pics of it as a kid. Then again I wasnt even thought of in the late 60's lol Chris... thanks. Jesse... thanks for the reminder and it makes sense as to a couple of pics I found but I never remembered ever seeing pics of it. That car also had a shorter wheelbase than the front engine pics inhad found of what I posted. Lee.... thank you so much. I am super excited to be starting this build. Even though I wasnt around when they ran this one. I figured there wasnt as much to do compared to the rear engine cars. And fingers crossed hope I can knock it out pretty quick. Ray... thank you so much. To be honest I would like to put the same level of detail into this one because of the meaning if the car to me. Brad... Thank you so much. This is going to be a fun build to do. I have been wanting to start these dragsters for some time now.
  21. Alright Fellas... Now that 1/16th Scale Army Funny Car is done I figured that it was time to unveil my next build I am going to start. This build and a couple others I have been thinking about building have a sentimental valve to me. I have been planning them since I have been in the middle of the funny car build. A few people here have know that I grew up around a dragster team. My Mom, Dad and I used to be part of the pit crew for the San Paolo Bros. Spaghetti Bender Top Alcohol Dragster. The Tracks we typically went to was Fremont (Baylands) Raceway, Orange County Raceway, Pomona, Bakersfield Raceway, Sacramento Raceway, Sears Point Raceway (Now called Sonoma Raceway), Ontario and I believe maybe Irwindale Raceway. Pretty much up and down California although Fremont was our home track. We were involved from the early 70's to mid 80's and it is where the love of drag racing came for me. I was 7 months old at my first drags and believe it was at Bakersfield Raceway. As a kid I specifically remember 2 of the Rear engine dragsters the most and they are the two I have been wanting to build. Well the last time I went home to visit my parents my mom had found another photo Album with one of the Front Engine Dragsters that was raced before I was born. After seeing the pics of it I just knew that this was the one that I needed to build first. The pictures that I have are from 1974 and ran in the Pro Comp Class Supercharged on gas. So since then I have been searching the web trying to find any more pics of all of the dragsters that I can. I figured the more reference I could find It couldn't hurt. So if anyone has any pictures by chance that wouldn't mind sharing or sending to me, I would be appreciative of it. Anyway here are a few pictures of what this Front Engine Dragster looks like. Now I was able to find a couple of pictures from Skidmark Johnson searching online, one was of the dragster when it ran a 392 Supercharged on Gas and the other was when they switch to a blown Alcohol Donovan 417. I think this is going to be a really fun build to do and I am going to have a blast with it. Here is the dragster..... This was the FED Blown Alcohol Donovan 417: Here is the 392 Hemi Iron block Blown on Gas That ran in Pro Comp: Here is a Pic that my Mom took in 1974 at Sears Point Raceway:
  22. Bob... Thank you very much, it will be there. Tyrone... Thanks man. I can't tell you how great it feels to finally have it done.
  23. Chris... Thank you so much for sharing that video. I had not idea that Andy did that, I have enjoyed watching his youtube videos that he does. I heard he was going to be at the show but I didn't get a chance to meet him. I will have to take a ride over to his shop one of these days so I can meet him. That is correct, you did see a Best Automotive Entry. I was in shock and couldn't believe it when I saw that because there were so many beautiful models there that could easily of gotten the award. Shambles... Thank you very much for the kind words. It was an awesome show and my first time to an IPMS Nationals, There were over 3000 models on the tables if I remember correctly. Lee... Thank you very much. After all of the years of hard work and some redoing things or should I say multiple things...lol, It feels good to finally have it completed. Stephen... Thank you, it was great to get to see you and catch up for a bit. Pete... Thank you my friend. It was an absolute pleasure to finally get to meet you in person and put a face to the name. I had a blast being able to talk models with you in the contest hall and as well getting to talk over lunch. Michael... Thank you!! That 1:1 Funny Car is Gorgeous. Jimmy... Thank you so much for the kind words. Its been fun to be able to share the build with everyone here. I know it's taken longer than it should but now that its done I don't think I would of changed anything because of the many things I learned thru this build. I am just excited to be able to start some new builds now. Stephen... Thank you so much. Hopefully soon I will get some completed pictures taken and posted of the car. I was having some issues with my SLR camera when I was taking some for the build book. I really need to learn the settings.
  24. Robert... always love watching that video. Wish he would of bliped the throttle just once. But there is something Inhave always loved as a kid when they go to shut it down and it leans out. Something about that sound is so cool. Lee... thanks man, I was hoping the back ground would make it look a little realistic, although I would like to redo the photo shoot to try to get better pics. I was rushing it and wished more things were in focus. I really need learn the settings in my SLR so I can take better pics. Stephen... thank you for the kind words.
