  1. John... you know why I haven't been working on my Goose dragster and you know I am trying my best to get the funny car done in time for the IPMS Nationals here in Phoenix in 3 weeks.
  2. John... Dang Dude... You are crushing this build out of the Park. I am loving every bit of detail you have put in this. I think that it is totally Killer how you did the parachute on this. This is just turning out Awesome!!
  3. Well Hot Dang John.... Holy Smokes you are crushing this build. Man that Engine looks so good with all of that detail. And the Weathering is just 2nd to none. You sure have down. And I just love the tires. What a Killer Update on your dragster.
  4. Danny... This turned out killer. Nice Job on this build.
  5. Rickard... What an outstanding Build this is. This turned out Killer and Job well done. I am loving it. I can't wait to see what you decide to build next.
  6. Well Fellas I know its been a while since I have had an update on this project. Every since our Desert Scale Classic show here back in April, I haven't been able to get motivation to start chipping away at my final to do list. This past weekend I decided to knock the dust of this one and start checking Items off my to do list. I can officially say that I am in the Single Digits of what"s left to complete this and call it done. I am actually excited to just about have this done so I can move onto my next project. Anyway here are a few pics of what I have completed and it actually felt pretty good to get back to this. I started by getting the brass rivet heads painted black to match the spoiler: I then decided to put the Wynn's decals on the side of the injector hat, I am still thinking about running a thin wash around the edge of the decal to dry and help the way the edge looks: Next up on the to do list was to get the hose clamps onto the oil blow off lines coming off the valve covers: (left side): Now here is the right side:
  7. That's great news you have one close by. I gave my PPG shop a call yesterday to check on the price for PPG's Omni Plus Clear MC161. They said a kit (quart of clear and 2 1/2 pints of hardener was 89 bucks. But I asked what the quart if clear and only 1 1/2 pint of hardener would cost it was around 59 bucks. The 1/2 pint if hardener is 29 bucks and the quart I'd clear is around 30 bucks. Since we dint ne3d much for our models I just got thr quart if clear and one can of hardner. Also I store my hardner in my refrigerator because it helps it last longer. When I go to stay it I take it out and let it come to room temp before using. This clear is mixed 2:1 (2 parts clear to 1 part hardner) and if you want you can reduce it a little more if you wish and you can use PPG's DT870 and DT860 urethane reducer. I personally would start with just the 2:1 and see how you like it. Thinning a little extra will help only down a tad smoother.
  8. You are welcome, If you don't have a PPG store you could always check with any auto body supply store that may carry PPG products.
  9. Hey Chris... if you have a PPG auto body store near you, I would try there first.. That's where I get mine. I used to use PPG's concept 2020 and concept 2001 and switched a few years back to PPG's Omni Plus clear. It was a little cheaper and the only difference between the higher end 2020 clear is that it protect against the UV's better and considering our models never really see sunlight except when taking pics outside.
  10. Clay... that is looking great brother! I think the color choice is perfect. Nice work on the Axle, I need to take notes for mine. Can't wait to see the decals on it.
  11. Art... I must be living under a rock, didn't see this til now. This is one awesome and outstanding build. Love all you have done to it. Nice work Brother!
  12. Jay.... Awesome Job on this build. It looks killer!!!
  13. Wayne... This turned out Awesome. Nice Job on this one.
  14. Tim... Gorgeous work my friend. It sure looks like you have the Casewell Plating down for sure. I have been struggling with mine and haven't had any thing good come from what I have tired. I do have to ask if this Copy Chrome is easier to use than the Nickle Silver? The Belts and Body look great. Love the progress you are making on this.
  15. CcBrad.... this is so cool and looking awesome. Glad to see you getting to the bench and working on something. Even if it is not a build. Sorry to hear about having a builders block but I totally understand not having motivation, I am currently there with my army funny car. Have touched it since The DSC and I need to get it done. Anyway I hope you find the motivation to get back to a build but in the mean time keep having fun with this diorama base. You are knocking it out of the park.
  16. So early this morning I decided to break out the Alclad and paint the rear end up with some Chrome. I also thought what the heck and let me stick it in the dehydrator for a bit... decided to leave it in a 140 for an hour to help cure it faster then let it sit for a while afterwards and then did the light polish to it to get rid of the over spray dust. Here is how it looks out in the sun:
  17. You are welcome.... I will be honest I forgot exactly how long I waited when I did the clear on the funny cars alclad parts. I have a feeling that after I sprayed the alclad I probably waited no more than 30 mins to dust/polish the parts and then I sprayed it not long after that. Now I would probably wait longer maybe a day before dusting it off and hitting it with clear. I was talking with John the other day and he told me me he would wait a minimum of a day or even longer if you could to let the Alclad really dry and get hard before dusting/polishing.
  18. John... Holy Smokes... this turn out Awesome!!. Gotta Be one of your best builds yet. I absolutely love this build. Favorite pics are of the car in front of the Windfield Diorama. Best part of it is Gene giving the Caddy a Thumbs Up You did a Killer Job for sure. I can't wait to see the paint out in the Sunlight...
  19. Here is the finished results after I left it in the Dehydrator for about 35 Mins, Nice and shinny and ready for some Alclad:
  20. Alright fellas... I got another small update to share with you all. I finally was able to get the rear end all prepped, sanded and Primered last night. Then earlier this evening after I got home from work I decided to get black base and clear sprayed on the rear end. Then I finally got to try out something I have been wanting to do for a while now..... you will see in the pics... Here is the Rear end in Primer after I had cleaned up the glue joints between the halve's of the parts: So a while back.... Probably over a year ago I purchased a Food Dehydrator and I have been wanting to try it out to force dry my paint jobs sorta like they do on full size cars to see if it will help with the finish but would also speed up the waiting time between being able to color sand and polish or even lay decals down before more clear. Here is the Machine the I picked up, Its got a digital read out for the temperature and it has a temp range of 100 to 160 degrees. I just wish the timer would allow you to go less than an hour (would of been nice if you could do 30 mins) but its ok: I had thought that I took some pics after I laid the House of Kolor Black base down, but apparently I forgot to take pics...lol So here it is my first part that I am force Drying at 140 Degree's for 30 mins: Upclose shot of the part Baking:
  21. Shambles... There are times that I do and times that I don't Clear over my Alclad Chrome. if you go look at my Army Vega Funny Car build I had painted the blower and valve covers with Alclad's Polished Aluminum and I used Alclads Aqua gloss over them. Then the Front Axle was Sprayed with Alclad Chrome and I did not clear over it and I believe that the Injector hat was Chrome with no Clear as well (or maybe it was the polished aluminum... I kind of forgot...lol). The clear does tone down the paint just a tad. I still would like to do a spoon test where I spray Alclad and then spray a light coat of my PPG Urethane clear over it and see how it looks. my guess is that it may tone the shine down just a little but not sure til I try it. The problem is that when you don't clear it and if you to touch it it has a chance of rubbing off. Maybe John can speak to it a little better as he is the Alclad master. Its possible that I have tried things too soon and not let it dry long enough.
  22. I couldn't agree more Jonathan. Hobby Lobby's selection is much better in my opinion. there are a few differences in what kits they carry.
  23. Clay... thanks man. I guess it's not really polishing but wiping the dust off. Rubbing to much will take it off. I have learned the hard way a few times...lol. John told me to wait over night or even longer before trying to take the dust off and that's what I did here. I gotta tell ya Clay... that is some serious eye candy of an update. Everything is looking great so far. The wheels look great, love the chrome work on the valve covers. This is sure coming together nice. I now need to catch up and get my chassis painted
  24. John... outstanding update. This build is a pir Gem to look at. As Clay's said... it's pure eye candy for the rest of us. You are in the home stretch for sure.
