  1. I WANT THEM TO REISSUE THAT ONE! So I can get it at a reasonable price, and not the insane, crazy high prices on eBay!
  2. Ok Tim, it took a bit, but I see what you're talking about in regards to the 300 SL's engine. You're referring to this..... If I ever get around to building mine, I'd separate that shield to give it a more pleasing to the eye separation. Not sure why Tamiya did it this way, but yeah they molded everything together looking at the kit I have. Now I can dream, but if they're gonna give us a Lusso, I'd certainly LOVE to see this hit the shelves! Even with just the Lusso, I can turn it into the 330 LMB. It would take some work of course, but it sure would save me a ton of money instead of shelling out $300+ for a Model Factory Hiro kit.
  3. Well said Bob! BTW, the Aston is a nice kit, it's just the ones I've seen for sale they're asking too much for it. I'm one of those "OCD" builders as you know, and I'd like this kit all the better if it came with just a bit more than a "reasonable facsimile" of an engine. Of course, left up to me I'd have the thing run on its own with high test gas powering it in that scale! Who knows, I could get adventurous someday and make a complete engine for it anyway, just to satisfy my "Obsessiveness". Now the Camaro kit I do think will stand on its own merits if it builds as good as it looks. I might stray from my scheduled builds lined up and tackle this one if the mood truly strikes me as I do think it's a fabulous looking car. If Tamiya had kitted the new Mercedes 300SL with just an insert for an engine, I might be screaming a whole lot louder! The Benz straight six is truly a work of art on its own, and I liked that kit so much that I got TWO of 'em!
  4. Yeah I see! Still too much! Hmmm.........I wonder if he got wind of this thread?? He's cut the number of days of the auction down also. Wonder if he knows that there's another one in MUCH BETTER SHAPE that's going for a starting bid of $9.99?? No box however, but it's far from a glue bomb by a long shot.
  5. Just catching up to this thread! Tim, great job on the bodywork and I echo what Chris said.................great idea to brace everything ahead of time. There's nothing more frustrating to have bodywork "let loose" on you at the worst time!
  6. I've passed on this kit for that very reason, the lack of a complete engine. I'll echo Tim's thoughts as I think that as gorgeous as this car is, the engine is its roots as to why it's so good in the 1:1 world. Not to mention as much as Tamiya was charging for this kit-----sorry, I can't past an omission of an item that should be its showpiece. However if some were happy building the model as is sans complete engine, more power to 'em. With Round 2 coming out with that new Camaro, and offering it WITH an engine and a snapper without, maybe this'll be a game changer and we'll see both options for kits in the future from both foreign and domestic kitmakers.
  7. Great paint on the body, and nice weathering on the engine! I was curious if the kit represents the older Karmann Ghias from around '55 or so? The front fenders seem "rounder" than the later ones, and you never see any of the '50's Ghias at the shows or otherwise. Well, if I don't already have enough models, this is definitely one I may want to grab before they become unobtainium!
  8. When the mood strikes me and I build this one (soooo many projects in mind now!), I would do it in the Garnet Red. To me that's what suits this car best..............white not so much. Nice, but the lines of the car demand IMO something more dynamic such as that electric blue color (not sure what they call it) or the Garnet Red.
  9. I'm late to the party with this............ Here's a few of my faves........ I especially love this one as I think this was one of Chryco's best colors ever! I don't think the Turbine Car could have looked better in any other color!
  10. Excellent black paint on that Ferrari! Yeah, black can be tough, but it looks soooooo good when polished and shined up!
  11. Tulio! I LOVE this! The details you got into this are top notch and the paint is perfect! Gotta childhood story to tell you about this car------back when I was a kid (1967-68) a neighbor a few houses up from us had one of these. Kind of a dark Burgundy (Vintage Burgundy?) with a black top. I wasn't sure about years of cars or anything at that age, but I remember the car as it was unique as were a lot of cars back then. One morning coming outside to play, I noticed that the entire front end of the car was smashed in. Seems as though the neighbor fell asleep at the wheel and hit something----more than likely a tree. Why he had it towed back to the house instead of the garage I don't know, but it was there for a few days and then it was gone. I couldn't tell you what engine was in the car, 'cept that when it started it did make a bit of a racket, so it may have been the 7 Liter. Anyway, just another one of those childhood car memories that stick in my mind.
  12. Those MRI's for me were NO JOKE! I hate being in tight spaces and was truly glad when the one I had done was OVER! This was years ago when I was having foot trouble. I remember being able to listen to music but for all the noise that thing made, it was worthless. Harry keep us posted when they can tell you what's up. They did the CD thing with me too and for me it was all but impossible to "see" what a trained specialist would see. Sciatic nerve trouble is no fun and I know someone that's struggling with that now.
  13. Oh I've definitely used those! In my '67 Mustang............... And in my '59 Chevy............. Little hard to see, but definitely adds some pizazz to the insides.............. BestModelCarParts has been my go-to guy in recent years for gauge faces as they're quite nice, and while they're not super duper legible on some, they're much better IMO than trying to paint those gauge faces which is frustrating at best for me. He's got a very wide selection of cars he does, and I have him bookmarked as one of my favorite sellers on the 'Bay when I'm in the market for needing gauge faces.
  14. Yikes!! That kinda bugs me too, but I'll admit being one of those that's bought parts simply because buying a whole kit was a bit cost prohibitive, and seemed like "wasting a kit" to me. Unfortunately with Don and Carol out of the picture now, you can bet those price gougers will clean up as parts get harder and harder to come by unless someone semi picks up where they left off. Or....................as I keep saying-----more and more folks become proficient in 3D printing and make their own stuff!
  15. Well, the black wash looks very good! That's something that gives me fit at times as it's hard for me to get the pattern so it appears uniform. Very realistic looking!
  16. Mike, I'm getting approximately 29mm for those tires. I used my dial calipers (the old fashioned kind), and then measured the points on a MM scale. Hope this helps!
  17. That's true Harry, but my question still stands-----------how low does one's feedback have to go before eBay will kick them out? I say this because I know of folks whose accounts were dropped for no good reason, and they were never able to get in with eBay again. They had good if not excellent feedback with buyers, and eBay dropped their accounts. This fella is operating with a 93% feedback, and he's still in business-----switching I.D. usernames notwithstanding. Maybe someone out there that knows the inside dealings with eBay can tell?
  18. I missed your link at first Tim, but looking over your entire review I see some interesting things happening with this kit. First------FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY, they've scaled up some decent low profile tires! The old AMT never would get the modern low profile tires correct, and they always had the appearance of being "too tall" compared to what was on the 1:1. The old Prowler kit comes to mind as I ended up buying a Revell one simply because it had much more accurate tires, but was lacking in better detail. The jury's still out about the poseable steering. Either way is fine with me as I can always add detail to the tie rod to get rid of the plain look. OTOH, I can see why Round 2 did it this way for the sake of robustness, and perhaps ease of molding. Now! Round 2 is there any way you can see fit to tool up a new Mustang in this fashion??
  19. Tim, thanks for the sneak peek! Yup! This is definitely on the "must get" list, and I hope like you they see fit to do more modern car kits. That glass is unreal! That sure saves a LOT of work, and I think that's the first time I've seen rear window defroster grid (tampo printed?) on clear plastic like that.
  20. Kurt and Ellen, thanks so much! Things are much better with just maybe 20-30% of the bubble implant left now. Over the weekend I hope it goes away that much more and if so, I'm going to call my eye Doctor come Monday to see if I can get back to work. I'd have to contact my HR person at work however to see if there's anything I can do other than the job I have. I'm still under a weight lifting restriction (nothing over 20 lbs) and my next eye appt technically isn't till the 26th this month. At least I can see my model worktable again, and who knows-----I might get to start working on that BMW again and finally finish that up!
  21. I'm not so sure about that. Why the low feedback percentage with such a high sell rate in the past number of months and only one negative? I'm not schooled on the ins and outs of eBay policy, but I get the sense that your feedback does indeed follow you no matter what from name change to name change. I'd also be wary of any seller that had so many name changes in a relatively short period of time. I've been with eBay since '02 and have had only one I.D.
  22. AHA! I thought so! My cynical antenna had me on high alert, and it wasn't so much the outrageous price this guy was asking for the Olds that got my attention, it was his awfully low feedback rating. I'm not sure what eBay's threshold is, but it would seem to me once you fall under a certain point say 95%.........BOOM! They should toss you out on your ear! And no, I can betcha he won't lower the price! I'm watching this auction to be nosy, and I'll bet the price doesn't budge from where it is. But hey, I've been wrong before..........
  23. Your math is correct Rob, but if he switched user I.D.'s for whatever reason, I believe his feedback may still follow him. That begs the question of why the switch in I.D.'s? Sorry, but as they say "Caveat Emptor". I'd not trust anything this person is selling. EDIT: I should say that eBay's math is correct in how they figure a negative rating vs. a seller's total transactions. I stand by what I said that there may have been a user I.D switch for whatever reason. I could be wrong, but eBay sellers have been known to do that.
