What's nice about PayPal on eBay now is that they offer and "Pay after Delivery" option for things bought there. Be careful though..........not all seller's auctions have this option! If you think you may not have to pay for a couple weeks, watch out as that is not known till after you've committed to buy the item!

Hey! Whaddya know?? The image button on the board works now! Michael, I copied the "direct" link that was next to your pic and clicked on the pic icon in the text area here. Pasted the URL and BINGO! Your pic showed up! FINALLY it looks like that was fixed as it was not working for many months! Anyway, some very nice bodywork going on there!

Michael, are you on a free account with Photobucket? If so, you may not be able to post anymore pics as you've reached your "limit" for a period of time. Frankly, I'm not a fan of PB AT ALL as their site is incredibly buggy and slow on my end. I use Fotki, and while some don't like them, I have a paid account and haven't had trouble 'cept very occasionally when they're down for maintenance. I tried to bring a couple of your pics here, but it's not letting me either. Everything's lookin' good either which way!

When did color fall out of favor?
MrObsessive replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never gave the back seat of my Challenger a second thought..............until I wanted to clean the inside of the back window a while back. Yup! I had a hard time getting back there and getting out! With me over 6 ft, it's not for the tall of stature! I find the trunk though to be very roomy for a car of its size and type. But no matter! 99.9% of the time I'm the only one in it so back seat room is a moot point for me as I have no wife or kids to haul around. Hey! I resemble that remark! (says Bill's Challenger) -
With what looks to be a super nice '16 Camaro kit on the way, lets hope this is the start once again for AMT/Round 2 to recapture that momentum, and give us some nice surprises in the way of kits that haven't been touched before. One can only hope!

From 1976-'78 when I was in high school in Oxon Hill Md, I got to get up close and personal to a '71-'72 Riviera practically all the time. We had a next door neighbor that had one in the driveway, and it was quite a nice car. Not the best color in the world-------I remember it being a silver/gray with a black vinyl roof. However, it was very nice to look at as there were so many things going on with the styling.........all for the good IMO. This type of car is what put GM on the map for so long---daring, bold designs that had no apologies for the way they looked. Think GM's '59 lineup and how polarizing that was to folks back when they debuted. Sure the '60 models were toned down a touch, but at least GM wasn't "playing it safe" like they do with a lot of their cars today. Of course, 1971 was a loooooong time ago, and government regs unfortunately have since dictated the shapes of cars. So no more "sharp edges", true four door hardtops, fins, etc.

Awww C'mon!! Really??
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It used to be when I first joined eBay back in '02, that you could see the usernames of those bidding on items. This was handy because if you knew the person you were competing against for instance, you might just let them have the item as this kinda kept you from getting into a bidding war. Now eBay hides the usernames in all auctions ostensibly to keep outsiders from zeroing in on super high bidders (cars for instance), and trying to scam them later on. I see their point in doing that but as you said Pete, one has a hard if not impossible task of checking out other bidders. BTW, the original item I first posted about----------the model went unsold, even at the rock bottom starting bid from $9.99. Guess those that saw the auction caught on that there was some funny business going on huh? -
Hmmm, Steve I had to dig up a good side view shot of a '71 to see what you mean and sure enough, that's how it is. The resin one I got is too flat which in a sorta subconscious way I guess on my part, I was trying to fix on my resin what I thought was warpage when in fact, the roof is too flat. All the more reason I'll wait till the plastic one comes about if it indeed ever does. We'll see.

I have one that I got off eBay from Time Machine Resins. It may be the same as the R&R one-----I don't know 'cept to say there are no plated parts, and I'd have to make my own glass. I do know that it'll take some work to make it nice. Not a bad kit per se, but not on the level of The Modelhaus as they did a '72 I believe. Frankly, if there's a plastic equivalent of any particular car, I'd much rather work with the plastic just in case there's some corrections that need to be made. Here's to keeping our fingers crossed that this car is indeed on the front burner and will come out maybe next year or so!

I wonder if the same designers worked on both since they were intro'd within a year of each other. It does look quite "Corvairish" so it makes you wonder.

Need some design help. AMT '57 Chrysler
MrObsessive replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Chris, that looks to be a very good conversion so far! You're a brave man cutting up an old Johan! I can't say anything bad about that as down the road I'll be doing the same thing in trying to convert Johan's '61 New Yorker into a 300G. It's the only way at times to get what we want as we'll never see certain cars come from the major kitmakers. -

Lookin' Good Steve! -
I've had a smartphone (iPhone) since about 2010 or so and while I'm not on it constantly, I'm on it more than enough. I'm too busy on the job so I don't need my phone for that, but it is my only source of making calls as I haven't had a landline in years. It's also my source of music, weather, watching local news (excellent for that), and yes I've used the GPS on it a number of times, but I don't travel as much as I used to. I have a Facebook account, but you'll seldom see me on there------I don't get the constant posting on what you're doing in the course of a day. No tattoos though! Never wanted one, and I doubt I'll ever get one!
-
WOW! Roberto, that turned out great! Not being into this type of car I might not have noticed the changes, but that's clever what you did!
-
That's the first I've heard that, but I will say that particular car was one of the items listed on the "Wish List" that Revell had folks sign onto at the NNL East, that I posted about a while back. All I can say is how can you NOT love that boat-tail?? IMO, this is one of GM's better bright spots of the '70's and certainly one of Bill Mitchell's most daring designs. Love it or hate it, it's certainly an attention getter and I do remember these very well as a teen growing up back then when these were on the road. The lowrider crowd would be all over this! I say make it as a snapper with options to build a stock and a lowrider version. Leave it to us superdetail guys to go all out and set it apart. I'd build mine without the vinyl roof though.............looks better without it, or as a "day two" car with the half vinyl roof. That option didn't come along till '73 I think, but it complements the roofline all the better. I hope the rumors are true, but we'll just have to wait and see!

Call me weird, but I like the styling of the Aero Grand Prix better than the Monte Carlo. The addition of the aero glass on the Monte always looked like an afterthought to me, whereas the Poncho's seemed better integrated. Maybe it's the more flowing shape on the Grand Prix as it's not as "abrupt" as on the Monte. However, I'd make a change in the Pontiac's rear spoiler as I'm not crazy about the shape of it. And yes, I'd like to see a kit of the Poncho, but I'm not holding my breath that it'll ever happen.

Why no kit plating chrome?
MrObsessive replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know some of you don't like Facebook, but they have a page there with pics of their "catalog", which also details thorough instructions on prepping and whatnot, and contact info. You can (if you'd like) check it out here. -
Well excuse me, but this is what it says on their own site........................ Dear Friends, after our surveys dedicated to “Show Trucks” and to the “Back Again” series, now we would like to involve you directly to understand, thanks to your ideas and your advice, which could be the “100% completely new” scale model kits that you would like to see in our catalogues for the future. Here below how our initiative will work : Send us by e-mail the .jpg pictures (from Web, historical pictures, taken directly from you…) of the new scale models you would like to see in our catalogues to our e-mail address photo@italeri.com before 27th August 2016. All categories are welcome : aircrafts, helicopters, trucks, tanks, figurines, ships… We will make then a first selection, done by our experts, of your pictures and we will post on our Facebook page for the selected images. Then you will have 7 days, from the time when we will post the selected proposals on Facebook, to assign your vote to decide your favourite scale model proposals. The proposals will then be analyzed by the Italeri.Research & Development team. If they are feasible, they will be introduced in our development plan for the next years. Thank you for your kindly attention. Ciao Sorry if I "crashed" the ideas here. I didn't know that car models weren't welcome.

Transparent Steering Wheels
MrObsessive replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Steve, great tips about making these steering wheels! I saved this page on my hard disc as it'll be good reference later on. There's a certain '61 Chrysler in my misty distant future that will definitely need this! -
Why no kit plating chrome?
MrObsessive replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WOW!! That is nice! I'll definitely be looking those guys up in the future! That rivals IMO chrome as seen on a 1:1 it's that good! I don't mind sending parts loose as I've always found mounting my own parts to be a hassle that I hate doing, so I'd sooner have them do it. -
Y'all know that I'm mostly a car guy, so I figured that Italeri at least take a look at these since they DID ask for requests in any category. Why these two I have pictured have never been offered as detailed glue kits in 1/24-1/25 scale baffles me. They're both European, so maybe they have a fighting chance. If either the Mercedes or Volvo (or both!) ever did see the light of day on the hobby shelves, it would make my decade!

Models at the Office?
MrObsessive replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Number 2 I highlighted above always kills me! Or, they'll ask how much do you sell them for as if I'm sitting back earning a living off of it. Another one is "You can make some BIG bucks doing that!" Really?? As you said, folks have NO CLUE the amount of time and effort that will go into each build. My response is I don't build for anyone else because then it automatically turns into work, and I already have a job! -
Need some design help. AMT '57 Chrysler
MrObsessive replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sure enough it is! Now if one could get the rear bumper and the taillight/fin inserts, then the hard part would be done! Edit: Oh! I just remembered that Jimmy Flintstone did a '57 DeSoto Adventurer! That included the front and rear bumpers which would be correct for that Firesweep model I posted above. I don't know how I forgot about that as I had one.......but let it go as there was just too much that needed to be done to the resin to make it right. If it were plastic, that'd be another story. Don't know if that's still readily available, but now there's another source for 'em.
