  1. One more plug for Norm's Finned Drums! You can't go wrong with them as others have said.......they're very accurate for whatever you want to represent. Here's a pic of 'em on my '57 Corvette chassis when it was under construction years ago............
  2. Here are a few of mine...........
  3. Of all the models I've ever built, I think this is the only wagon I have! I'd like to build a few more wagons sometime down the road!
  4. It may very well have been. The later issues (mine was like the box art shown) suffered naturally from mold wear as mine had tons of flash to deal with. Not to mention that a few parts were warped, but I was able to work around those. In '64 when this kit was intro'd-------I'd say more than a few modelers were at their wits end trying to get one to be presentable. It was quite the "state of the art" when released back then.
  5. I built one a few years ago, but I gotta tell ya..............I practically had to reengineer everything about it as nothing fit the way I like 'em to. The doors particularly were very fiddly so I ditched the kit's hinges and made my own. Much more sturdy! If anyone of you want to build this................get set for a LOT of test fitting! ....................and hair pulling!
  6. Nice conversion! Didn't like seeing those in my rear view mirror back then when the local PD's were runnin' 'em. Those Caprices are all over eBay...........just do a search for "Revell Caprice" and you'll see a long list of 'em. BTW, that kit IIRC only came as a taxi............I don't remember seeing any of the Revell '92's done any other way. You could kitbash the one you've got with the '92 to get what you want.
  7. That can crack too if put too quickly over their acrylics. If you're going to use them you better make sure the paint is thoroughly cured in a dehydrator before airbrushing the X-11 clear. I had this problem with cracking when trying to use their paints on bodies back in the '80's. The paint formula was changed sometime around then but the cracking problem persisted. I believe the problem is their clear dries much faster than the color acrylics...............the clear is dry but the paint underneath is still shrinking thus leading to cracking down the road.
  8. Happy Birthday George!!
  9. Super Beautiful Chris!! I'm off to the hobby shop today, so I may pick that one up!
  10. Hi Art! No, I won't be able to go this time around..................had something else planned that day that takes precedence.
  11. I saw that! What also got my attention was the light green '58 Plymouth which was always up ahead. My Dad had a car that was almost EXACTLY like that except his was a '57. There's a part in the clip where they show the interior of the Plymouth---------that brought back some memories! ............I was thinking of Ed also when I saw all those neat gas stations and the cars along with 'em.
  12. This was posted on another board..............I was pretty fascinated by it as it sure brought back some very early childhood memories!. Most of what I saw in the video are the very cars I saw as a kid when I first new what a car was. I didn't know the names or years then----------but the styling of what's shown was very familiar. It takes you through Route 30 in Iowa and it's a pretty neat shapshot of what was on the road in the late '50's early '60's. The clip is dated 1959--------but I see a lot of 1960 models in the video as well. Looking at the scenery and trees..........and also a part where a lot of kids are going to (or from) school. It looks more like it was done around springtime of '60.
  13. Hmmm..........I see he turns the big 5-0! Looks like a lot of us '61er's turn 50 this year!
  14. Modelhaus does make a resin kit, but it is PRICEY!! If I can make one suggestion when you start...........make sure you lengthen the front fenders. Not to be overly harsh, but every time I see someone convert a '55-'57 Chevy to a Pontiac, the front fenders are never long enough. Might not make much difference in scale, but if you're going all the way with a lot of body work-------may as well do the fenders too. Pontiacs had a bit more real estate between the trailing edge of the wheelwell and the leading edge of the front door, due to their longer wheelbase.
  15. Paging Art Anderson! If I'm not mistaken------I believe the '55-'57 Nomad used the 2 door hardtop windshield which were lower than their 2/4 door sedan brethren. As others have stated the roof is definitely longer on the regular 2/4 door wagons. I don't have a real one either to measure from...............I'm just going from memory and what I've seen of the cars in 1:1. HTH!
  16. Mark, hold the CTRL button down while scrolling with your mouse wheel. I'm on Firefox 4.0 and that works for me-------although it should work in IE as well. HTH!
  17. That is a VERY WELL DONE conversion! You got the hard part done------that is getting rid of the 1960 "dip" in the tulip panel which that model year Starliner had. It looks like the original from what I can see! ..........And yes, '61 Starliners were the high water mark IMO of the '60-'64 series Fords. After that they became more boxy and less stylish-------although still good looking cars for their day.
  18. Crazy weather! We just had a thunderstorm pass through about an hour ago here in Central PA!
  19. Brandon, as someone who's been building over 30 years............my best advice I can give you is "Practice, Practice, Practice!" You've heard the saying "Practice makes Perfect"-------that applies especially to painting since it's the final result, but the first thing people notice when they see your model.
  20. Mike, if it were me------I'd barrier it to death with Future Floor Wax (Pledge with Future Shine) and then primer and paint. That should cure the score line from showing through again!
  21. Nice and super clean job! Love the colors.............soooo early '60's! I've got an old builtup of this car lying around somewhere............that's a great tip on replacing the windshield pillar!
  22. AAAHHH! I'm glad you're fixing the rear wheelwells on this one Mike! I see many built that never address this faux pas on AMT's part. I dunno, the rear quarters on that one seemed a little "pinched" as well, but maybe that's just me. I remember when the 1:1's were littering the parking lot of my high school back in the late '70's---------you could pick one up super dirt cheap..........even the Hemis. Look forward to seeing more!
  23. Ammonia should take it right off------------just like it will take the shine off your floors.
  24. I second what Cruz said John-----------what a difference! I didn't know you back then and I wouldn't have guessed that was you! I won't be able to come to the NNL next month as I have something else planned for that day. Depending on what's going on, I'd like to get to the Super September Showdown in Gilbertsville.............missed the last one that came along. Speaking of the NNL, here's a few pics I found of myself from a past NNL East when I was super big. I believe this NNL is from 2003-04 when I was at least 320 lbs+. This last one is Cruz and I waiting in line...........you can see the difference in him as well here. It's true what you said about discrimination against the obese........that's the nasty side of human nature. I have to be careful myself not to be judgmental at someone who's obese as I was once there myself.
  25. I'm with you there Gregg! I'm not a big believer in taking drugs or pills to lose weight. A supplement to take such as natural herbs and vitamins is okay with me-------I also don't believe in drinking diet "shakes" and whatnot. It's best to do it with real, whole food as one can get real tired of drinking shakes after a while.
