Real or Model #48 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
That was another of my beefs with the model in person Izzy. For it's size (and price!) the model's windows should go all the way down in the well with only a "hint" of them showing at the leading edge of the well like the 1:1. -
Lookin' good Cruz! If you can remember, bring that to the picnic tomorrow! If Ron has that kit, I wanna pick one up-----not so much to build it right away, but I LOVE '68-'70 B-Body Mopars! Awww shucks, you guys can sure make me blush..............If only you could see it!

Real or Model #48 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Yep! I wanted so bad to say where the model came from, but didn't want to spoil things! The model is made by Highway 61.............I got to see this model up close and personal when I took a trip to our local car musuem here in Hershey, PA. The museum had a gift shop, and there it was sitting out in the open for all to see. It is VERY impressive in person! The amount of detail is staggering----and so is the price..............a wallet strangling $800!!!!! Interestingly enough, for it's size the model has no hardtop and no folding soft top. My 1:12 scale Danbury Mint '56 has both those features and it didn't cost 800 bucks! Another feature they missed is the chrome trim that goes around the perimeter of the roll up windows. In all fairness though the '57 that I built doesn't have them either, but then mine's only 1:24. Edit: If you check right here you can see a full review with a ton more pics! Also read the buyer's reviews.............of the few that commented, they had some not so favorable things to say about it. -
I'll have to give that a try again sometime Dave............I tried that a loooong time ago, but it turned out terrible! Now with some more years under my belt............it'd be nice to give that technique a go. I think months ago, someone did a tutorial on it............I don't remember who, but it involved a Toronado IIRC.

Nice job on the door openings Jeff! That can a be a little tough to do because of the creases in the doors themselves..................the color looks great!
-
I sent you a PM Clay.............

Chris, I don't do anything special with door sill plates other than to BMF the area. Yes, Detail Master makes the plates and they are kinda generic, but it's a little better than what I do with mine! I'm not that crazy about those plates as it can be an interference issue with the doors opening and closing. Sometimes you can make allowances for those, but then you got the addition of paint and whatnot and a problem with scraping every time you open and close the door.

Now you know the next thing Ismael, is to make a connecting rod to work the vents from the inside! AND to have all this work after you paint it!
-
Well, it's nice to be blamed in a good way! GO man GO!!

IIRC, Larry, the kit tooling went in to be changed less than a month or so after the model hit the shelves. I remember because the model was all the buzz at our MAMA meeting back then and we were still meeting in Catonsville College at that time. It was mentioned (I think by Lyle Willits or Larry Boothe) that the tooling had already gone back in to be corrected for the inaccuracies. Dont'cha wish the others cared as much about their tooling?? Remember the Pontiac 2+2 fiasco??

Why thank you! I appreciate the compliment!

MMMmmmmm..........Spanish Rice! You guys are killin' me!! Oh and some nice models too! You're making me want to bum a plane ride and get back down there!! Maybe come winter when it's 20° here in PA.

"Holy Grail" Models?
MrObsessive replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Glad I could help George! Now you know we all want to see pics whenever you can! -
All GM midsizers starting with the '64 model year........their doors turned inside the fender. The full sized cars didn't follow suit until the '67 model year or thereabouts. Edit: Here's a pic I pulled off eBay showing the swivel hinges for a '65 Chevelle door...........this is from a convertible............. And another from a coupe......... Here's a closeup shot of the hinges.............these are from a '66, but they all had the same inner structure............

Hmmm............ -
I hear ya Bob! As popular as those series of cars were in the '70's you'd think there'd be a fair amount of plastic done of those. IIRC, in 1977 the Olds Cutlass was the best selling car in the U.S. .............yet no models of it. Now that was not the flashiest car on the road back then, so you'd think they would have done a mid '70's Grand Prix, Chevelle Laguna S-3, Lemans, Etc.

Nice tip Gregg! I use something similar except the inside of my spray booth is my "photo shop". I'll have to check out those bulbs at Home Depot. I get a problem with "yellowing" at times on pics I take............might be the digicam too as it's four years old. I'm not sure what the life span of those things are.
-
Well, it's about time!! Nice start so far Nick..........I figured those AAA stickers would be good for something! Tonioseven: I love your avatar! That was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid! Goldar, Silvar, and Gam..............that brings back some memories! I'd like to get that show on DVD when I get some more bucks!

Sneak peek ....The IMC Tanker Trailer kit is back !!!
MrObsessive replied to SteveG's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Now I'm not much into trucks and tankers (I do like the L-700 though!) that is one cool piece!. I can see that being our local milk tanker circa 1968-69 when I lived near a diary. I might be interested in the short tanker (space) I'm trying to picture how that one looks........... -

Yes, that was Chris Roldan from the HH board back then. That tip can now be found here if you want to check it out. Looks interesting...............but could be tough! -
Nice work Ed! You've got the tough part done with the BMF............those era of cars scream for it.
-
Why I'm right here, and yes that is a neat little model! Ed's right.........that was the peak of AMC's styling prowess----most of what they did after that (1970) was just plain weird (Pacer, Gremlin) or downright ugly! (Later Matadors). Although their late '50's early '60's cars were a bit dubious too. I really wish I had the '69 I owned years ago------One nice thing about AMX's is that you couldn't fake 'em. You can take a plain 'ol '67 Mustang and turn it into a Shelby, you can take a small block Corvette and make a big block car out of it. But try and take a 1968-70 Javelin and turn it into an AMX! Nothing doin'!

As Jeff mentioned, the bottom part of the windshield was too rounded, giving it a half moon shape. Likewise since the hood and dash followed the cowl/windshield they too were wrong. At least Lindberg stepped up and fixed it..............too bad the same couldn't have been done (the first time) with Revell's woefully inaccurate '70 AAR 'Cuda. The second one is better but.........
