Ice Road Truckers

Well, Leo, I see your bringing the beer!!! -
I would say you'd probably have to get the real car paint. I use DupliColor touch up cans almost all the time, along with their primers and clearcoats, and I have had no problems with them at all. By the way, I'm not sure if the Atomic Orange Metallic is a Corvette specific name for that paint, but I have also seen it called Sunburst Orange, a friend of mine had a 2000 or 2001 Chevy Cavalier in that color, and the Sunburst Orange on it looks very similar to the Vette in the picture.

Larry, I would say the easiest way to get both would be to go back though the posts to Porky's (truck)and Phoneguy's (decals) postings, click on the little envelope under their profile pics, and send them a PM to get in contact with them. -

Of course, I have the same pic as my avatar pic as the desktop background on both my main computer AND my laptop! I drove heavy wrecker for about a year or two around 2000, so I have quite a love for wreckers and have many light and heavy wrecker builds planned, including building a correct "Can Do"! By the way, the Challeneger in the Can Do kit is very close to the Mistress' boom, close enough to work, but I have not researched Miller Indrusties site (I have it in my favorites!) to find exactly the rotator on her yet. As Joey would say on the show, I'd love to be "Steppin' out with the Mistress" and "Rollovers get my boom up"! -
It's nice to finally see an Earnhardt model here, it's the first I've seen here! Did you do it to replicate a specific car, rdgracer71, (sorry, didn't see your real name, that's supposed to be somewhere!) because most of Dale's cars had the red interior. There were very few with the gray interior, I think mostly his Daytona and Talledega cars. Either way, nice to see that I'm not the only Earnhardt fan here!

Beautiful work, as always, John!

Boy, Harry, you are REALLY trying to bring my 6 for 6 streak to an end, aren't you!! I have to say real, but if I'm (finally) wrong, I'd have to say Scale-Master Mark fooled me with another one of his fine builds like his Super 7!

Thanks, Jamie, I kinda figured it was enamel, but wasn't 100% sure. Lowes did also have Rustoleum lacquers, too, but they were clearly marked lacquer on the can, so that was part of my confusion, too. You have to spray a black basecoat under the Colorshift first, which you have to buy separately, it is not like the Duplicolor where everything was sold in a kit. I will also have to buy some clearcoat for it, so I can have a nice high gloss shine. I'd say if you want your KW the same, go for it! The paint is (at least at my local Lowes) in the section where the spray paints are, and don't get sticker shock when you find it, just the can of the Colorshift is $19.99!

PSSST, they are reissuing that kit around the end of the year! You can keep the original sealed and build the reissue!

Of course not! I mentioned that earlier that I thought you had that listed on ebay sometimes! -
I never fixed mine, it made it a little cold in the winter, well that and the broken rear window!

Thanks Rodney, I knew I forgot something! I'm glad you caught the runaway half of my brain!!

IT'S MINI UPDATE TIME AGAIN! As I had posted earlier in the thread I was problems finding the paint I wanted to use on the tractor, but the problem is SOLVED!! I solved the problem by deciding just to take the hammer to it and call it quits! HAHA I'M KIDDING!!! I had you going for a minute, didn't I?? Anyway, to the serious matter at hand, I did find a new color to paint the truck, and I'm liking this one MUCH BETTER! I was just about defeated on finding a nice alternative to the DupliColor Mirage when I stopped by the local Lowes. I ended up finding this there. The color is called Galaxy Blue, and there is a galaxy of colors in it! When I was looking at the cap at the store, I seen at least blue, purple, green, gold, red, and hints of magenta and teal. Why worry about red and blue when I can have this! I test sprayed it on a spare 70 Coronet body, because I can't find anywhere on the can whether it is enamel or lacquer, mainly because I wanted to make sure it wouldn't craze or anything bad. I tell you, these pics don't do the paint justice, either. Dennis, thanks for the advice, I was not going to be happy without the Mirage, UNTIL I FOUND THIS!! P.S.: Look for the truck to be in paint SOON!!!!

Looks nice so far! I had a 1:1 years ago, too, it was red with the white cap. I plan to build mine someday. Did your 1:1 have air conditioned floors where you could watch the road go by like mine did?

Don't worry about it now, I want to build the wrecker in my pic, but I don't even have a donor for it yet! Or a bed, or a correct cab, or the whole thing! -

Those are simply beautiful!! I can't believe you did those in just about a day! Now I know the go to guy for decals when I finally get parts for my O'hare wrecker project! -
I like both the build and the story, too! I like the barn find meets restoration project feel you gave it. One suggestion, though, maybe a ding and dent or two would have made the build and the story even better and added more character. You know, like a dent in the bumper where "Grandma bumped into the yellow concrete pole at the supermarket" and a ding or dent in the front fender where "Grandma accidentally hit a car pulling into a space at the drug store" kinda thing.

Beautiful!! I love the fade on the paint job. By the way, thanks for the base info, it's wonderful, too.

Since it seems his pic didn't help (great pic in my opinion, though), maybe these will! Drivers Side: Passenger Side: -
wiring question

See in your first pic where the two holes are between the front and middle exhaust port humps? I don't know if you already drilled those or if they are just imperfections or what, but they make a nice reference point. Do that in the valleys BETWEEN the exhaust port humps (where the headers attach) on both sides and you'll be fine! If you do it on the the top of the exhaust ports, the plug would be in the exhaust pipe, and I don't think the car would run very good!
