1. I kinda annoyed that you say I don't need my 400+ kit collection, many of which are multiple kits of the same cars because THEY HAVE PARTS I WANT!!! And, for your information, if someone posts they need a part from one of those kits, I willing wiilingly trade the parts I'm not using they may need! 2. I'm BY NO MEANS A COLLECTOR, I'M A BUILDER!!! 3. I DO PLAN ON BUILDING ALL I HAVE!! Again, for your information, I also added my name to a mass email to both Revell and AMT someone started on another forum to see new kits made. 4. I WILL NEVER STOP BUYING NEW KITS TO ADD TO MY COLLECTION UNTIL I DIE!!!

Load questions?
highway replied to ARTEMIS1759's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
AMT made both a John Deere tractor and backhoe in kit forms, as well as a Massey Ferguson tractor (I think). AMT also did a (once) CAT D8 dozer, I think all but the Massey tractor were reissued as late as 2000-2004, and the bulldozer in that last reissue carried no CAT markings. -
Where are all the convertables?
highway replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's exactly what I did to a 2006 Camaro Concept so I could build the Concept Convertible. -
That's funny! My better half often tells me she feels like she lives in a hobby shop because my model "room" is about 1/3 of our 16x20 living room! My collection is over 400 kits at last count, and I actuaaly have more on my shelves than 2 of LHSs! The third has me beat, but not by very much. After a few more kits, I'll have more than them, too! By the way, to answer Darin's question, even though I trade here for kits and have bought some older kits on ebay, not to mention kits I've bought from vendors at shows through the years, I still go to the hobby shop quite regularly and usually walk out with at least 2 or 3 kits a trip, and that is at each shop, not a total of the 3 in my area. If you do the math, 2 or 3 kits at each of the 3 LHSs in my area and, on average, twice a month, that's at least a dozen NEW kits a month that I buy! Not only am I buying older kits, I'm doing exactly what you are asking helping the model companies sell more kits, and helping my local shops in the process also. Can you say the same?? Also, the only kits I buy online are the older kits, I prefer to buy or have my LHSs order new kits for me so I can help keep my LHSs here!

I think we've only had season 2 here, but I'm not sure. What, is the Discovery Channel up there run by Canada Post?? -
Ok, this may sound dumb, especially since I have been building for almost 25 years, and have had a couple cheapy airbrushes and I have a can of propellent, but I have never used an airbrush before. What is the proper way to clean the airbrush, especially after using Alclad? I normally use DupliColor rattle cans for my paint, and I can only spray paint outside because I don't have a spraybooth. I need to know because on my latest project, a Ford big rig, I have to rechrome this front bumper I modified for it, plus the fuel tanks to remove the seams where the fuel tank halves meet, and a few other parts as well. I have had Alcad for about 4 years, but have never used it because of being afraid of ruining the airbrush because I didn't clean it right. By the way, this is the cheapy airbrush I have to use with the canned propellent:

I'm in, but I don't think his mailman would like us very much! I hope Gregg has one big model room! -

That might be another mission for phoneguy! I like Eldon's toy, but I'm kinda partial to that nice new Mack that Bonecrusher got near the end of last season. Of course, I spent five years staring at the south end of that north bound dog for five years! -

Welcome shader1976! Gregg, as soon as the rest of the 300 million people figure out this is THE forum for model cars to be at on the web, more and more will give up on Scrap Auto like I did! Hey, by the way, what happened to the Hawaiian dictionary thread idea, bra? I pick a little up from Dog the bounty hunter, but us mainlanders need some reference! Just like e komo mai, what does that mean? -
I like it, very nice work! I really like how you made the Viper engine not look like a Viper engine, the Chevrolet scripts on the valve covers are a nice touch.

Am I missing something here?
highway replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, but it was probably their relatives that was telling Edison that the crazy "electric light bulb" fastasy would never catch on, and they probalby did the same thing with Bell about that crazy "phone" thing! -
As I said chuckyr (by the way, you are supposed to have your real name somewhere), I'm not that familiar with G scale trains, I just mentioned some examples of things I've seen. I also mentioned that, since TJ wants something as a load for a truck, not on a train, if it looks right, go for it! There are some of us would build what we want and as long as the look is right, I myself do NOT care if it is scaled exactly to the millimeter, as long as it looks good, it's good enough for me! The only things I said for sure was the reference to the MPC "General" kit, since it is 1/25 scale, and I have one on the shelf to build for a lowboy load of my own and that there are nice things in the HO scale world, since that is the scale railroading I do.

You're very welcome, Greg, glad I could help. -
It looks nice, Toby. It's something very different.

A photo contest may or may not take more effort, at least there would be not set-up or tear-down to worry about, let alone club participation. Also, it would offer many more modelers to be able to enter than a local contest. Don't get me wrong I would LOVE to go to a local contest and share the fellowship and see the other works, but THERE ARE NONE close to me anymore. The local club I was a member of always put on a nice show, but it fell by the wayside not because of problems with the show, but the membership itself, and the only other shows somewhat nearby would cost a fortune in diesel fuel for me to drive to! A photo contest would be great for people like me who can't travel far to get to a show because there are none in a reasonablly close distance, or for those who just may not be able to travel, not to mention some of our members who are from "across the pond" or "down under" would have the opprotunity to compete as well. And as for the comments you made to Harry, I think you need to realize it's not all about you, either, and "get off your weird high horse" and realize that some people, for whatever reason (lack of shows, financial reasons, health issues, etc.) may like to enter or participate in local shows, but are unable to. I wish quite often that both the club and our show was still around, but this and other forums have inspired me to build more again, and builds I have seen here have inspired me and some of the builds I'm posting have been getting much support and are hopefully inspiring other builders as well. -
I'm not that big on G scale trains, but I have seen things on ebay advertised as G scale and 1/24(25) scale at the same time, then others as 1/20, and still others as 1/29. I would guess that G scale would be fine with 1/24(25) scale as long as everything looks right. You mentioned trains and ships to use for heavy haulers, were you aware that MPC made a 1/25 scale 1860s era steam locomotive called The General? I have seen it once or twice on ebay, and have one that I'm going to build as a load for a lowboy. Of course, have you also ever thought of giving HO or O scale trucks and equipment a chance? There are some nice products available for both those scales.

Are my settings wrong ?
highway replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No, there is settings for email notifications on threads you reply to. Either go to your profile, click where it says "Edit My Profile" or go where your name is at the top of the screen and select "My Settings", then to the tab that says "Forums". You will see a tab (that should aready be highlighted) that says "View/Posting/Email Prefs", then an area with check mark boxes that also says "View/Posting/Email Prefs". You should then see a check box with this written next to it: Watch every topic I reply to If enabled, choose default notification type: If the box is not checked, check it, then go to the drop down box and pick how you want to be notified, you should have these options: No Email Notification Immediate Email Notification Delayed Email Notification Daily Email Digest Weekly Email Digest I have mine set on immediate, and whenever there is a reply to my watched threads, I receive the email. Also, if you want to just watch the thread without replying, you can click the "Watch this Topic" button in the thread, and it will take you to a screen where you can set the email notifications you receive for that thread. I hope this helps. -
I agree on both parts! Why do you think most wreckers are Fords? So they can tow all the broke down Chevys!! I hope you don't mind a couple small nitpicks, though, John. The Nostalgia Drag kit that the Bronco and trailer is from was the Model King AMT reissue, not from Revell, and the engine in the Bronco should have been Ford Blue unless you were going for a custom look. Irregardless, still a beautiful little race team.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, the top level Berettas were the GTU and GTZ, right? The Beretta was one Chevy that never had a true Z car like the Lumina, Camaro, and the Z24 Cavalier.
