wiring question
highway replied to Greg Cullinan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do think you are right, Jim. I think the middle exhaust ports are siamesed on these, also just like a SB Chevy. -
nascar super speedway nose
highway replied to firethorn's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Actually, JR, I think the noses on the kits are the super speedway noses. If you are talking about how some look like they have little or no grilles at all, that is done with body colors tape over the grille openings. The only modificatons I have ever seen for the noses of NASCARs was photoetch grille set from, I believe, Detail Master, which was to ADD grilles to replicate road course cars, which have added grilles to help with brake cooling. -
I hate to see that! I noticed in that pic, though, in the shelf directly behind the Ford kit that's crying, if there are decals damaged in any of those, I have some of those kits. If you have a way to print decals, I will be more than happy to scan the decal sheets for you or if they are deacls I'm not going to use, send them to you. If you can after you get the water cleaned up, put a post in the Wanted section of the kits you lost decals to, I'm sure not just me would be happy to help you recover the lost decals.

Ice Road Truckers
highway replied to highway's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yeah, I know, but it doesn't hurt to dream! I think I've seen a W900 with an integral sleeper, slightly higher roof though, on ebay, I think Porky (Eric) has it listed sometimes. He's a member here. The T-600 and W-900 kits have a separate sleeper box that would need molded to the cab to be 100% correct. The reason I mentioned the intregral sleeper is because the 1:1 prototypes are that way, especially Lisa's, just like this one. I'm happy to here you or exploring the wonderful world of scale trucking and scratchbuilding. The bigger the boys, the bigger the toys! I just might know something about trucks, and there are many others in this section who know much more than me, but I grew up with an older brother who drove, so I was around trucks at a young age, and have been building trucks for a little over 20 years, since I was about 12. My brother was killed in an truck accident in 1992, and I lost interest in trucks for a little while, but at 22 in 1998, I started my driving career. I have driven for the past 12 years and have probably over 1 million safe miles until high blood pressure problems conspired against me last June and helped in losing a local driving job I had for 5 years. The blood pressure is back under control, but I have not been in a truck since, and may never be again thanks to that. I've been making the best of it, though, spending time with my latest project that I've done some scratchbuilding on, this Ford LTL 9000. -

Nice work, Jim! I want to get the new reissue soon. PSSST...by the way, don't forget a little touch of black on the interior rear snap tab. -

You were close! I just finished watching the episode where Lisa gave a tour of her "house". The number of Lisa's truck is C-1680! I just wish I could be her rommmate! -
Sorry to hear about the basement, Pat! I hope you get things cleaned up and the water didn't damage anything important, kits or otherwise.

You'd probably be better off with the resin, since the styles Carlile run is the integral cab/sleeper. You could probably make the T-600 work, but the cab and sleeper would have to be blended together, plus you would have to do modifications to the sleeper roof and the cab's door window openings. The Revell W900 would also need the same mods, plus the front of the fender squared off for the square headlights on the newer trucks. As for chains, either look at Michael's for some fine chain, or I have seen scale chain on ebay. I've seen it in both the truck section and the model railroad sections. -

That might work, thanks. Since I'm watching "Trucks" on Spike TV as I type this, I might just do like they are with the "Project Rolling Thunder" Mazda and find a nice S10 or Ranger and stuff a smallbock V8 in it! That would be something I could haul more than just my bass boat with! -
First, there is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid answers! I hope I don't give you a stupid answer! Seriously, though, the way I drill the very small holes, such as for distributor wiring, is with a tool call a pin vise. It is a simple hand tool that is designed just for the very small drill bits, and the chuck in it has an outer ring you twist to clamp the chuck teeth around the drill bit. I'll try to post a pic in a little while so you can see what I mean. I have a simple style one, and I think it was only about $10 at my local shop, and the drill bit set was around $15. As for the routing question, my best advice is find a 1:1 prototype and take pictures to research these things. I was lucky enough that my local Quaker Steak and Lube was hosting a car show a week or two back, and while I was there I also snapped some pics of the this new Camaro they had on the lift outside promoting a local dealer. This is a far shot to give me a general idea of component locations: and these are closer pics showing brake and fuel lines: I have also found sometimes you might find nice underside pics by searching your specific project online. If your project is really rare or off the wall, you could either use your judgement and run them in a logical location, or most cases, most kit frames have the lines molded in, like these ones I paint detailed on this 09 Challenger project. My best advice is just take your camera with you when you go out, and research your project. You'd be surprised how nice most of the "car guys" at a show can be, I got some nice close shots at that show for a few projects, just keep in mind they probably have a mint wrapped up in their cars, so be careful not to invade the cars "space" to avoid damages. If the owner is nearby, like a few I talked with, just explain what your doing, you would be surprised how accomidating they will be.

I thought it might be!!

You had me until the "NO stock trucks" part! I have a couple compact trucks, but have no plans or desires to build them as drag trucks. SORRY! -
UMMMMM, that's a good question!

I just figured out how stupid I am!! When I was searching earlier for pics, I was typing "Carlisle", then I noticed in the previous pics, there is no "S" in Carlile! I ended up finding a few more pics that way! I hope these might help you, phoneguy. EDIT: I also noticed watching the shows today, the non reefer vans also have the Carlile script on the nose of the trailer. -
Very nice! I like the old school steelies on it, that would look good behind a 50s era truck or even a Nomad or 50s Chevy.
-
Looking nice! Is the one pic with the 57 Chevy body on the frame a tease of another idea?
-
Art, you already have me droolling uncontrollably for the International Lonestar, I already told my local hobby shop he'd better order a case just for me! I'd say just by your description, when the pic do become available, I'd better have the wet/dry vac ready!!

You sure he's not talking about "Dog" the bounty hunter, bra (I pick that up from watching "Dog" )? I think that might be the name of Dog's bond company. Maybe he's one of Dog's customers!!

Hobby Lobby- Lots of Clearance Model Kits!
highway replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, Tom it is. Mike (iBorg) and I were talking via PM about those earlier, and he said that Nitro Hobby is owned by WV Hobbies out there in the Scott Depot/Hurricane area. I just happened to know of them because I delivered freight in that area quite a bit for a company I used to work for up here in the northern part of WV just outside Wheeling. Oh, and by the way everyone, these are just local shops, they are not parts of the national chains, sorry for any confusion earlier. -

I did a Bing search, and this was the best pic I could find of an entire unit: And here is one if the door markings (with the Polar Bear ): I also found their website, unfortunately no pics that I could find, but maybe if you would contact them and explain what you'd like to do so us truck modelers could build their trucks, they might be able to give you some good pics, at least I hope! http://www.carlile.biz/ -

I don't know, but don't forget Rick drove (and broke many times ) an identical truck, too. If you do Rick's, though, don't forget the dump trailer loaded with trash! -
