  1. And what about the "Eddie Bauer" Fords?
  2. Thanks for the replies everyone. Don't worry Roger, with all the projects I have started for different community builds and such, I've only actually finished to models in the past year and a half, and they weren't even cars, they were planes! Even though I don't have the turbo on my 1:1, whenever you do have the engine ready for casting, I'd be interested in the turbo version too. I have a couple 92 and later AMT F150s I'm planning a wrecker conversion for, and the Powerstroke would be great in those.
  3. I think in this case that might be exactly what XL stands for Don! I drove a couple of these in my days on the road, it is a Freightliner Classic XL. I'm not exactly sure what the XL actually stands for, but the XL version was larger than the standard Classic model, but it could very well be "extra large"! On the serious side though, since the hood of the XL was about 2 feet longer than the standard Classic, it could stand for "extra long". The XL also had some more "creature comforts" than the standard Classic, so it could be for "extra luxurious" as well. All I know is the Classic XL was a fine driving truck, but because of the longer hood and not a very tight turning radius, it was a challenge to back into some tight docks or parking spots!
  4. The Ford Harley Edition isn't the only Harley branded truck to make you wonder about the tie-in to the Harley, International also has this Harley Edition Lonestar truck. Now I could understand a Ford-International tie-in, because I believe up until the 2011 model year, all Ford diesels were built by International. The new 2011 is a Ford built diesel so they say, and the 6something liters in the about 2004 or 5 to the 2010 I think were the International, and I know for certain the old 6.9 liter and 7.3 liter non turbo and turbo Powerstroke versions were all International. My 1990 F350 has the non turbo 7.3 liter, and she may say Ford on the outside, but she's all International at heart!
  5. When you have a spring setup like this, THEN you should have the Super Duty name! By the way, Barry, that is not directed towards you, it's for all girly Super Dutys everywhere! Also, Barry, my 1990 dually wishes it could have the goodies yours does, I'm lucky I have a radio!!
  6. I knew something felt like it was missing!! That still doesn't help me for what EX stands for though!!
  7. I agree 110% Harry! That is just like Ford and the overused "Super Duty" name given to almost every truck they have on the market. There is NOTHING Super Duty about them, and Ford has ruined the name! The true Super Duty trucks were what would be the F450 or F550 today, and were mainly a commerical chassis cab. I drove a 1990 F-Superduty rollback when I was driving wreckers, and it was truly a Super Duty truck, not the girlyman fancy truck Ford has today. The most luxurious feature of that rollback was the chrome "F-Superduty" fender badge!!
  8. At least from what I've always heard, LS stands for Luxury Sport, LT is Luxury Touring, and EX the bleep if I know! Oh, one you forgot, LTS is Luxury Touring Sport.
  9. Oh, I know which bumper you mean now! I think they used that style on the diesel equipped trucks, too. It should look like this one. I also found this pic that might help you for the front axle detail, too.
  10. I'm not sure if there has been one in 1/24 (25) scale or not, but I'm almost certain I've seen one in a military version in 1/35 scale.
  11. Oh no, I see where this thread is going to head now, everybody will start posting funny pictures!! WHOOPS, TOO LATE!!!
  12. You better wake up then Mark!! I don't know if it is still available or not, but I know the Joe's reissue I have I bought at least three or four years ago, and I haven't seen it in the hobby shops here since.
  13. Yeah Skip, Jordan is right. I just tried to get on in and got the same white screen you did, and I didn't even know about the thread you mentioned to Don over there until now! No big loss though, that's the first I even used the shortcut for there in at least a month! This is my home, they are just like going to the inlaws, I only go once in a great while!!
  14. Thanks Jason, and the rear springs are massive! I've actually counted the leafs in the pack, and there are 15 leaves per side, and according to the door post sticker, the GAWR (gross axle weight rating for those of you who might not know) is over 8,000 pounds, and gross weight for the truck is 12,500 pounds! I have to have a special WV commerical style license plate just to have it registered at it's max weight just in case I ever want to haul something that heavy and still be legal. I could pay about $15 less for a regular plate, but I wouldn't be able to legal haul more than a reglar half ton pickup, either! As for the engine, I don't even have to hide a carb under it, just make a massive hole in the middle of the intake! You can't see it in the pic, but the piece behind the Oil Fill cap with the rubber fuel line going into the top of it is the fuel injection pump. There is nothing but a big hole with a screen under the air cleaner just to suck in the air! I might have better underhood pics later, because I'm getting ready to go out now and check my batteries, I think at least one is getting ready to die!
  15. I haven't built it yet, but I have the same kit that was reissued as Joe's Power Plus Service Station.
  16. I'm pretty much with the herd here, Don. I've bought and cannibalized kits sometimes just for the tires or an engine, I've got 6 of the AMT Pro Street Coronets on the shelf right now to prove it! I also save the optional parts from the 3 in 1 kits or just any optional parts I don't use, and also bought the occasional built up or rebuilder kit for parts. I've also gotten some in the way Greg mentioned, people that I know that know I build and have kits maybe they bought to "dabble" in the hobby or just stuff they had extra and didn't want sitting around. You'd be surprised how much you can get for little or no investment! I even had a friend I worked with give me an old trailer model he had from about 20 years ago and never touched, and the only payment he wanted was for me to enjoy it! The best I could probably add to what everyone else has said here is this, don't be afraid to post a wanted ad here if there is a piece you really need or want for a build. For example, you mentioned spotlights in your opening post, and that is one detail on older hot rods and lead sleds I just don't care for, so I'm sure I would have some floating in the parts box. Well, if I didn't use it on a big rig, police car, or tow truck!
  17. I don't know if this would help or not, because I don't really recall any aftermarket casters making the Dana 44 IFS found in the later F150, but you could maybe try adding a differential center to the drivers side arm from the kit. Another possiblilty is use the front axle from the Revell/Monogram or AMT (and I think old MPC) early 80s Bronco. That would also supply you with the transfer case and front driveshaft. I know the Revell/Monogram kit has an IFS style axle in the front, which is strange since it has front leaf springs, and you would still have to figure out a way to make the correct late model IFS arms. As for the bumper, I'm guessing you are taking about the front bumper, and I'm also guessing the difference between the kit and your 1:1 is the black rub strip found on the kit's bumper. That is an easy fix, just sand the rub strip off the kit bumper and you'll have the plain front bumper you probably have on the 1:1. After you have it sanded, just either use some BMF, Alclad, or even some aluminum foil (shiny side up if course ) applied with some spray craft glue or even some of the shiny metal duct tape to restore the chrome finish. Another alternative is also DupliColor Chrome spray paint, even though like all chrome paints, you don't get a true chrome finish. The DupliColor is the closest to actual chrome I have found in the automotive or craft chrome paints, though. If you want it to look just like the kit chrome, send it out to one of the aftermarket chrome platers. I hope this might help at least a little.
  18. You got my vote!! By the way, how did you get my baby picture!?!?!
  19. Nice site, Donald! Thanks for sharing it, a must "Favorite" for sure!
  20. ENJOY! I'm loving watching this thread! I just wish you would stop throwing in pics of real cars!
  21. Yep, Chris is right, and the only Italeri kits I know of that ever got the Detroit were the Peterbilt kits. All the others, with the execption of the Volvo VNs which had no engine, have all had the Cummins.
  22. Well, you all probably thought I gave up after my little frame problem, didn't you!?!? You was wrong! I figured since there was nothing good on TV today (like normal!), it's raining, and the better half is at work, plus it helped I fired up my "inspirational" trucking songs on iTunes, I think I finally have the frame figured out. I dug through my Evergreen box and found some strips that would work nicely for making the top and bottom rails of the frame, and make it sort of look like the 1:1's C Channel frame instead of the incorrectly molded box frame in the kit. It might be a little thick, but hey, the 1:1's frame is beefy too! I measured the gap, and it is now a scale 6 inches! Here's the top pieces, I still have to make the bottoms and the filler for the frame itself. After all is said and done, most of this part of the frame will be hidden by the stacks, anyway! I have the feeling the biggest hurdles are still to come, not only do I have to make the huge rear springs, and probably use the wimpy kit rear springs for the front suspension, I still have to figure out how to convert the kit's gas engine into this greasy diesel pig!
  23. I know you have the vortox breathers, I have a set!! I forgot all about the set back axle on the 377, and we all know what happens when I start modifying a truck! And believe me, when I order the red chicken lights (plus the amber ones!), you better make sure you have a lot of resin on hand, you'll need it! My trucks like to cluck!
  24. Eric, that hood should work with the Italeri 377 kit, shouldn't it? If so, I think I just found out what I'm going to do with that kit!
