Highly Detailed GENERAL LEE.... finally done...!1yr and 6 days
highway replied to mopar01lee's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I was trying to figure out why you were starting with the 68 kit instead of the 69 kit, and I think I figured it out! You're taking the easy way out with sanding the 69's roof, aren't you!?!? Are the front and rear panels from the 69 kit, though? If so, I just might have to pick a 68 kit up and take the easy way out, too! I've at least had the idea of a General, but not this detailed, since the Revell 69 kit first came out all those years ago. -
Testors Chrysler engine red
highway replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tom, I'm not sure on the red, but you couldn't go wrong with the Hemi Orange in the spray can. I used it on the body and engine of my 09 Challenger, and without the clear it looks pretty good in my opinion on the engine. I don't have a pic of the front half of the interior and body together, but I also used no clear on the inner fender area, and it does give a differt look compared to the clearcoated body. Hope this helps. -
I'm sorry, but I still just DO NOT understand what scale would have to do with a BUILDERS ability and putting them on, as you like to call it, a "level playing field"! Come on, I can build just as nice or junky 1/8 scale kit as I can a 1/43 scale kit! The scale has NOTHING TO DO WITH ABILITY!! I don't know if you have been a part of a contest or club or not, but I have until the club disbanded in the early 2000s because of life taking over for most of the members and many could not devote the time they once had to the club or to the very successful show our club put on! Scale was NEVER a factor in ANYTHING at our show, and ALL SCALES sat on the table TOGETHER!! Never once did a scale of a kit come into factor for judging, if it was a nicely done and detailed 1/43 scale kit, it was in the same running as a nicely done and detailed 1/25 scale kit. As I suggested in my earlier post, if scale is such a big issue, break the categories into scales, simple as that! Then everyone is still on your "fair" "level playing field" and people can build what they want!

Revell-Monogram Fall Releases....
highway replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry Terry, but your late to the party! There is already a thread in the "New Kit Reviews" section, come join the fun! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=44014&st=0 -
You are right in that respect Harry, but I was talking about the scale issue!
-
It doesn't sound like a bad idea John, but I have to I disagree with this rule above. Yes, most of us here build in 1/24 or 1/25 scale, but there are fine kits in either larger or smaller scales as well. No contest I have ever been to has a restriction like this, and I think it would be better for this idea if it didn't either. If you wanted to have a "restriction" like this, it would be better to do like some shows do and break the catagories into scale specific catagories, such as "1/20 and larger..." and "1/32 and smaller.." rather than just 1/24 or 1/25 only. Other contests don't even have size catagories, and I've personally had an HO scale truck sitting right next to a 1/24 scale truck and a 1/12 scale car next to 1/8 scale and 1/25 scale cars. As for the "same playing field", the only "same playing field" I've ever experienced at a contest has been the tables the models were sat on! Some of us have the talent (and money) to make their own parts on lathes and scratchbuild amazing parts from metal and styrene, while there are others who have to build within their abilities and budget and use what they can. In my opinion, cost or components should not be an issue, just as size shouldn't be either. I think it would be more of a success if you rethink those two limitations, because real shows don't have them. Just my two cents.

2011 Revell-Monogram fall releases
highway replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yep, I have to agree with Chuck, Ken. The pic of it looks just like the stock box art pic from the early 2000s issue of it and the mid 80s "Warbird" issues, with the correct "Trans Am" markings gone just like the 2000s issue! -
2011 Revell-Monogram fall releases
highway replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Actually Casey, the last time we seen this kit in the mid to late 90s, at least on the box it was just called a "Wrecker Truck", but for some reason I think the instructions MAY have had the Chevy name on them. Sorry to burst your bubble Robert, but it is, as you can see from the pic I posted above from the last release of the kit, it was a SnapTite. Before you hold that against it though, it was an EXCELLENT snap kit, and even has an opening hood and fully independant engine, with the only pieces molded into the frame being the exhaust pipes and fuel tanks if I remember correctly. If you want, I have an old built up of it I got in a trade, I'd be more that happy to supply you with some pics of it if you want to see just how nice it actually builds into. Of course, other than a case or two of the wreckers (who'd thunk I'D want wreckers ), I can't wait to see the 1/24 scale Huey again! A thread not too long ago about unusual loads for trucks came up, and that was the first time I even knew there was a kit of this made, and I guarantee you'll see one on the back of one of my trucks! -

highway replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ben mentioned that in his first post!! I did forget the coroner idea, good idea for one of the E-150s! -
Harry, a few days ago in another thread I said I pictured you like this: Now finding out this new information, I now picture you looking more like this :

Actually Kevin, I'm not sure but I think Rocketfin is more of a search and research site rather than a retailer. I'd say if they were selling that hearse, there should have been at least a price or ordering information, and I didn't see either. At least the good thing is you now know it's out there, and I wish you good luck in finding it, I know you love your hearses!

my take on the Revell '32 5-Window-Just a 426 Street Hemi
highway replied to Nick Winter's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Exactly Chris, it almost looks like one from a Coronet Pro Street kit, or at least it's stock counterpart. I've got me enough of those Pro Street kits to last a lifetime or two! -

Here's the rest, had to do it in two posts due to the pics. Tim, is there any way you could make this a pinned topic, please? -

Well, for once the search function worked great!! Here are the revant posts from the thread it is in. -

highway replied to Shaun1985's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Actually Shaun, I don't think it was a tutorial by itself but was more of a tutorial mixed into a build thread. I remember finding it once before when someone else was looking for it, maybe I'll find it again! -

I will see what I can do at least with getting the pics. I'm sure with the professional decal makers around here, something can be worked out. -

I see what you mean, Ben. I found these pics on Wikipedia, and didn't relize the regular van didn't have fender emblems. That's what I get for hanging around the commerical ones too much! I guess since the chassis cab doesn't have rear doors, they needed someplace to put an emblem. I also found this one, I can't believe none of us thought of this possiblity! As for the emblems being decals, that would work for me. Would it be possible to photoreduce the emblem to make the decal? If so, let me know and I'll try to hunt all three up, which shouldn't be hard in the E-350 chassis especially. The towing company right down the road has U-Hauls and also use the standard van for a service truck. My town's volunteer fire department also has one of the chassis cabs as their ambulance. -

I like the idea! One suggestion, if it would be possible to cast the side emblems separately, offer both the E-250 and E-350 emblems for those who might want to make a Ryder truck or ambulance, since many of those are E-350 dually setups anyway. Heck, even the E-150 emblem would be nice for a light duty delivery van like bakeries or florists might have. I know making the separate emblems would be probably a pain, but even more possiblities! -
Happy Mothers' Day Weekend
highway replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree too, I lost my dad in 1990 when I was only 14 years old and my older brother two years later as a result of a tractor trailer accident (then I started driving them 6 years later ), and lost mom in 1996. -
You're not crazy at all, at least in another modeler's eye!! I think we all have cars we are passionate about, and people not really in the hobby just don't understand our visions or passions. I quite regularly hear from my better half that she feels we live in a hobby shop and also why I have to have another kit. I'm not quite like you with the 55s Dwight, but I do like all the tri 5 year Chevys and have at least one of each and the Nomads too. My biggest where I'm like you is with Dale Earnhardt Sr cars, I could not even tell you how many kits I have and that's not even including the donor kits for aftermarket decals.

need help on scale size
highway replied to evilone's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is a 1:160 scale kit I have, and might help you in jugding the size. This is it compared to your normal 1/4 oz Testors paint jar. -

Very nice! -
Just my two cents on the turban joke, whether you find it funny or not is your opinion, but just keep this in mind... IT'S THE TRUTH!!!! The news agencies are reporting he was shot in the head.
