  3. You probably thought I forgot about you Mike, but I didn't! Whatever the "hardware problem" Photobucket was having, in the case of my account, it took them a week and a half to fix! Anyway, since I can FINALLY get in it again, here are the pics I promised of my Challenger with the Testors Custom Lacquer Hemi Orange. I also found without the clearcoat, it doesn't look half bad for the engine color, either. The engine and the underhood area of the interior are both just the color with no clear. EDIT:Sorry about the second pic being blurry, that was taken before I learned how to use the Macro setting on my camera!
  4. So I'm not the only one that has been having problems from their "hardware issue"! Of course, I'm STILL waiting for mine to come back online!
  5. I forgot all about those Jordan! Italeri for some reason has the "one frame fits all" theory for their American trucks except for the Peterbilt kits. The Ford I've been working on, the Mack you mentioned, and about four or five other Italeri US truck kits I have all have that same common frame. As for the trailer, yeah it and the American Cargo version of it (just with no reefer) is about a scale foot too short, and the landing gear are too far back on the trailer, and the hubs are from the tractor drive wheels in their tractor kits. They may say American trailers on them, but they are more built to European specs!
  6. I don't really know if I'd consider it the best place to buy kits, but the place I prefer to buy my kits are from my three wonderful local hobby shops. I have always been the type that I would like to look at what I buy before I actually purchase it, and I also know who is getting my money. I have dealt with all three for many years, know all the owners by name and they know me by name, and if I see something I REALLY have to have, they have no problem of putting the kit or kits back and holding them until I can afford them. They also bend over backwards to find something if I can't find it and don't want to buy it on the internet. I also just found that one of them, which just so happens to be the only one who carries MCM, will also hold new magazines until I can get there to buy them. I'll never miss another issue of MCM again!

I don't know for sure if they would work or not, but a couple kits that quickly come to mind from that period are the Revell Petty Superbird and the Polar Lights stock cars from that era, but I'm not sure if there was a Dodge issued in that series from Polar Lights. As for the decals, any of those kits should help with sponsor (depending on the driver you want or if you are building a fictious car), numbers, and contingency decals. I forget which aftermarket company it was, but I have also seen some decals from that era on ebay.
  9. That bed looks perfect for that truck Al, it almost looks like an old NRC unit I drove that was on the back of a 74 White-Western Star. That same company also had a 70something Mack R with a Holmes 750 on it, both were some tough old trucks. I'll be watching this one for sure!
  10. I could use some of those periods of sleep, I haven't been able to sleep right since who knows when!!! By the way, looking nice so far. I love the look of that exhaust!! I never thought of painting one half new half used before!
  11. This is the only thing in all the threads on the Lonestar so far that I don't care for. I wish that Moebius would have not molded the "chicken lights" to the body and made the individual surrounds separately. Not only would you have the bases to use with the lenses for other trucks if you didn't want them on the Lonestar, but the bases would be nicer chromed rather than having to BMF them all!
  12. You might have a point Eelco, but you'd be surprised how many of us good ole country boys drive Yotas like in the video! Even though I have my big Ford now, even this redneck had a Toyota at one time, too! That wasn't my only foreign truck either, I also had an Izusu pickup that was one of the best trucks I ever had! Even out four wheeled by friends Chevys and got where they couldn't!
  13. I've got to agree with Jim 100%, just because they used a Toyota in the video doesn't mean that only a Toyota is a "Hillbilly Deluxe". I'm a born and bred West Virginia hillbilly, and my slightly customized 1990 Ford F350 4x4 dually is my "Hillbilly Deluxe", even with it's rusted front fender and hillbilly rust repair, DUCT TAPE! Really though, back to the serious side, up here in the states (since I noticed you're from the land down under Aaron) I've seen all different types of trucks that have "Hillbilly Deluxe" on the bug shield or back window or across the top of the windshield, I've even seen some big rigs named "Hillbilly Deluxe"! Also, I don't know how I missed this CBP before, but I like it! I don't have a definite entry as of yet, mainly because I have tons of others that probably won't get finished for other CBPs , but I just might have come up with something for this one, maybe even go through some of my old trucking songs and get a big rig in the mix!
  14. How different is the LS2 from the LS1? Both the Revell and AMT 4th gen F Bodies have decent LS1s, and I think the trans is supposed to be a 6 six speed, so it should be the T56.
  15. Even though it wasn't a display engine, isn't a Chrysler included in the old 49 Merc kit, too? If I remember, isn't there an optional DeSoto Firedome in the 53 Ford truck?

Rodney, a suggestion to eliminate the camber issues, but this would probably only work if you haven't glued the engine together yet, glue a couple small lead fishing sinkers inside the engine block just like aircraft modelers do to keep the nose on the ground. That should give you just enough weight to compress the springs slightly to sit all four flat again.

Danno, my comments, other than the ones I use to protect my kit glass, on marking on the bags go for just the parts I know I'm either not going to use and may end up trade fodder or thrown in the parts box. I keep track of the small parts I've pulled from the sprue and painted or have just fallen off the sprue the same way you stated, since "recycling" is good! My "recycling" of kit boxes is also very much like yours, I learned that after many hours of "Where the ____ is that kit?" searching through the stash. The only difference is I use the 3x5 or 2x4 inch (can't remember the size offhand) white labels. I even passed that on to a friend of mine after we would get together and be doing some trading and I'd see something on the shelf and say "I've been looking for that!" and he would reply "That's not what's in there, I don't even know what's in that box." Of course, we still have that problem, he will write the label out and put what USED to be in the box, but he never puts the same kit back in it!
  19. Kevin, if you have the ability to make your own decals on your printer, or can find someone that can make them for you, there is a scan of the Snake decals in the link I posted earlier in the thread.

  21. I can't speak for those who have actually built the coil over shocks, but one way I think you could build them would be some styrene tubing and a spring from an old ball point pen.

  23. Ok, one thing I'm curious about after looking through Kurt's album (GREAT pics by the way!) is the Qualcomm dish on the built one. Is that included in the kit??
  24. DW is right with what he's saying, but if each piece is only about 14,000 lbs, it really wouldn't make much of a difference because 28,000 lbs is a light load for a flatbed. I do have a little skateboarding (trucker for flatbed! ) experience, if you want to call hauling 12 foot long skids of cardboard experience, but I also have a friend who ran steel for many years. In fact, if I ever get off my lazy butt and finish it, I have the same trailer modified to a spread axle to finish for him. Anyway, the way he told me to load the three coils from the kit, and the way he loaded his real ones was to load the first in just about the same position as it shows in the box art, the second just rear of the centerline, and the third just about centered or just slightly forward of the spread in the axles I modified. As for the way the trailer is out of the kit, the box art is dead on, and just as a little extra tidbit, the way the coils are loaded on the box top are called "shotgun" and the way it is on the box side are called "suicide". Those just refer to the way the coil faces. I just happened to think of one more thing for your load, Clay. Since it is a military load, you really don't have to worry about the DOT and weights much anyway, they can't stop Uncle Sam!
