HI: I build a lot of full detail kits like many of you do but I still like the simplicity of a curbside.... Inexpensive.....they respond well to minimal detailing......you actually FINISH them!!!!! So here goes.... simple Revell 34 Ford Chopped coupe...snap kit... Wheels and tires from the Revell 41 Willys.... Cut all of the junk off of the frame.... Clear red sprue for the tail lights... Added scratch built headers from plastic tube...painted with jet exhaust enamel... Simple white paint job....Tamiya primer and gloss white... Decals from the 41 Willys....(You could add the drag chute too...) Stock interior...... Result:....nice little drag car for minimal effort and low cash outlay....... Try something like this ....it's fun and you will actually FINISH IT!!!!!!! Regards Bill (Duntov)

The Pharaoh's Patina

And and Virgil.... I just got a set of "Reverse" as well (and the mags too)..... my white walls are super thin.... I am wondering if there are multiple versions? The two I have are "Chrome Reverse" and "Sovereign" but both have razor thin white walls....not at all like you have on your '50..... I looked again on the Scaledreams site and I don't see a wide white at all..... these tires and the large diameter wheels are almost "Low-Rider" like in appearance.... I wanted to use them on a simple Revell 63 Corvette Coupe curbside and the tires don't even come close to filling up the wheel wells..... I guess I need to find some place for these things as they are really nice!!!! Regards Bill -
Well worth saving for sure...... But then again I am seriously prejudiced on this one!!!!!!!

I think pretty easy to add the split..... to make it a '49....(some VERY EARLY 50's were reputed to have that feature as well but I don't know for sure)... the main issue will be the difference in the tail lamp spears.... and mud splash.... the spears were different if I recall but would need to be researched for accuracy.... most everything else is pretty close....

This is perfect!!!! GREAT JOB HERE!!!!

Ron: This is really nice.... greetings from a Portland native and fellow Corvette owner / lover... These old AMT 40's are the best!!!!! You did a great job!!! (Lot's of friends in St. Helens!!!) Regards Bill (Duntov)

This is nice... A lot of folks do not realize that it was the '49 olds that actually was the debut car for the Rocket 88 V-8 engine that so many drag racers and track racers coveted in those days.... just a few minor cosmetic differences between the 49 and 50.. split windscreen being just one.... Good work!! Regards Bill (Duntov)

This a real favorite of mine.... One of my first real car kits was an AMT 40 Ford.... there have been many since and two still untouched in my stash.... This was a cool story and yo did a good job on this old kit.... Regards Bill (Duntov)

This looks cool... -
WOW!!! How often do you see one of the Revell show cars actually built up.... this nice anyway!?!?! Great job!!! Love to see these actually built as intended!!!
-
This is cool.... I like the shifter treatment.....

Paul: This looks really good... I can attest after living with the real thing(s) for a lot of years you are going in the right direction here... don't stress on the tires....they are always an issue on these cars....the originals were bias ply tires (7.75 X 15) and came as white wall, red line or base black wall and hard to find in "PERFECT" model form....keep moving with this you are doing a great job.... (Zora would like this car a lot!!!!!..... ) Regards Bill (Duntov)

This is some very nice work!!! -
Another minor update.... The engine is finished and installed.... The RG 502 engine is pretty amazing...it is a model in and of itself and has great detail overall.... but to say it is a tight fit is a gross understatement.... If I had it to do over I might use a different power plant..... but here it is in place..... the brake booster will be moved over to accommodate the width of the big engine.... One more overall shot of the mounting.....you can see the brass pin used to hold the transmission tail in place on the cross member in the upper right of the photo.... I have lost count of the number of pins used on this one... the engine alone is around 33-34 (REALLY!!!!....very little glue)

This is really neat... I really like the decal variations on this.... just a lot fun doing something like that!!!

Very nice!!!!

Hi: This is an update on the final frame paint and stance for this truck.... WARNING.... if you are a detail hound you might want to shield your eyes....not much to see here really but it sits just right... In my opinion... I have recently moved toward VERY SIMPLE BUILDS.... focusing on "COMPLETION" and also... "THE LOOK".... This is one... Here is the very basic frame... as mentioned earlier in this post I cut off the rear frame and added a scratch built extension to hold a basic rear end unit in a lowered position... I did the same with the A-Frames... (I "MIGHT" add a main cross member after the engine is mounted--- will have to see...) .. I have a rudimentary exhaust built and ready for later... engine first of course.... Again.... this is mindlessly simple....by the way it is painted with the Krylon Ultra Flat Black Camouflage paint.... they have several neat colors that I like to use (Check them out....for sure).....expensive but worth the outlay for some alternative colors.... Black, Green, Tan, Grey etc etc....ALL ULTRA ULTRA FLAT!!! The frame... d The final stance result is right where I wanted it.... again the goal here is something that will actually drive if it was real.....but it still looks like it could mow grass or push peanuts!!!! ) More later..........Bill

JC: I really like your approach to building... simple shapes and sheet styrene just do wonders for a build like this.... Great work here!!! Regards Bill (Duntov)

1984 GMC Lowrider

Hi there: "I got the engine almost done.Just need to plumb the rad hoses.Has anyone plumbed this engine before?" I am in the middle of building this same truck as a mild custom.... Here is the link to current progress; http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72635 As for plumbing the engine I use Pony Bead Tube.... from the bead section at Hobby Lobby. It is .080 outside diameter and .040 inside diameter... I drill a .033 hole in the front of the intake and one in outlet at the bottom of the water pump....then ACC .033 brass pins in place... Slip the tube over the pins and cut to length... I also use the same pin set up on the radiator... once you have the tube cut to length you can use a dot of ACC on both ends to secure it. This is really good material for radiator hoses since it is so soft it really resists kinking even going around tight bends..... See the photo below.... not mounted in the frame yet but that is next... Hope this helps... Bill -
Here is a minor update on the interior and the engine.... The interior is mindlessly simple... The Alternomad donated it's seats (just the Impala SS seats really) so those look a bit better than stock I think... I will probably use the steering wheel as well because it is much more modern.... The Ross Gibson Engine is a bear... literally (size) and figuratively (building and mounting)... It is pretty much finished but I am not happy with one or two details and will adjust prior to mounting it in the truck....this thing is the 502 and it is massive and a tight fit even in the GMC truck engine bay.... I had to cut the radiator shroud down and cobble an air filter together (again... donated parts from the Alternomad engine).... More as I get time.... Bill
