  1. I'm the same way. I have 9 on my desk right now. I like to paint in batches and have a few to clear now. Of cource this doesn't count my 30 or so started kits.
  2. Very nice!! So, if this is the first one you have completed... How many have you started??
  3. I had a great time with everyone! Too bad I had to run from the BBQ as I ran out of time. I would have been in that picture too. Here is a link to the photo's I took. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v385/darkrapid/Desert%20Scale%20Classic%202012/
  4. I would love to see how this one comes out!!
  5. Thanks guys. I have been working on this one on and off since New Years Day when I started this one. I recently cleaned out my hobby room and went through all my kits. I pulled out all the started ones so I could focus on them. I have 10 projects on my desk now that I am juggeling. I have 34 other kits also started just like many others on this sight. I have been on a bit of a slump lately and I think I know why but won't get into that. I will keep this one going so keep watch.
  6. Time to update this one. I have soothed out the body and started painting everything. The body has been painted red and I started attaching the photoetch parts. It's looking real nice now. I will be clearcoating the body and foiling the trim soon. Here are the photo's.
  7. I think the Lamborghini answer is debatable. The problem with it is that the Countach evolved though out the years much like any other model of car. The 32 Ford and the 57 Chevy are examples of a single year. The Countach started with the LP400 (74-77), then LP400S (78-81), next up LP500S (82-84), then 5000S QV (85-88) and last the 25 Anniversary (88-90). I love the Countach and own about 10 of the Fujimi EM kits of it. I also have about the same amount of Revell 69 Camaro's.
  8. Thanks for that!! I'm taking the photo's at the Desert Scale Classic this year and need all the tips I can get.
  9. Their was a resin conversion from All American Models for the Back to the Future kit. It does come up on ebay every now and then. This is what you get.
  10. I'm loving this. You are doing a great job. Also UU1 is correct for a 68, B5 blue came out in 69. At the same time the paint codes dropped to two digets.
  11. My daily driver, 71 Sport Suburban, Lots of mods on this one as it is my first car that I learned to drive in it. Was my mom's before I got it. It looks like a 70 Sport Suburban on purpouse. I also have another 70 Sport Suburban for parts. I drive it daily because My wife and I are building her car. When it is done I will redo the wagon and it will finally get painted. This is her 71 Chevelle before we took it apart. This is back in 2002. This is her car recently. And here is our other car. I bought this new in 1999. It is an S10 Xtreme with a few mods and a V6. We love this truck and it has served us well. She drives it daily and we use it on the weekends. It now has 186k on it.
  12. I do a lot of research on many of my models. To me it is part of the fun of building it. I read about options and oddities plus differences between years. Sometimes that affects the outcome of the build. To me it's not homework it keeps me going and is also why I tend to build a few at the same time. Others I find a car online that just looks great to me and I'll copy it for details. Recently I read that the 59 Corvette was the only year a turquise soft top was availible. I may build my Monogram 59 in white with the turquise top on it. I just don't know what color the cove should be. I found an online reference that had a silver cove on white.
  13. I have done that too. Go for it!! Here is a damaged one I did. 64 Thunderbird friction promo. Used Modelhaus parts and an AMT 66 Thunderbird for the rest. I will do these also. 64 Barracuda friction promo. 78 Volare promo.
  14. I'm wondering the same thing. All three of mine are from Charlotte. Someday I will finish them but they are challenging. I hope Revell makes the direction clearer too!! I have that top box and this one pictured. The only difference is the decals.
  15. I'm goint to be watching this. I am in the process of building the 2010 GT500 now and plan to build a convertible version. I just have to finish the coupe and a few other projects first.
  16. Scale Coachworks did do one. I don't beleive they are in buisness anymore. Check this thread for pics. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=42798
  17. This is just coming together just too easily. I think I spent more time going through my kits trying to formulate a plan and what kit's to rob for parts. I glued the driveshaft in it's place (it has a tab to attach to the chassis). That helped locate the engine. I did a quick mock up and it was located just right in the chassis. Then I glued in the styrene stock and shaped the frame mounts. Another mockup confirmed placement and I'm happy. Now I'll start to build and paint everything. I just need to pick a color for this one. I keep thinking red as the 53 will have to be white and the 54 is planned to be blue. I also like the copper 55 but I'm building the 57 vette it a similar gold.
  18. I have been wanting to build the 53-55 Corvette's recently. I really like the Revell/Monogram kits and they have both versions of the Blue Flame 6, so building a 54 or a 53 is right in the kit. I bought the AMT 55 but was not impressed with it. I can make it a nice build but the Revell kit is a much better start. MCG has a nice photo etch kit that has the 55 CheVrolet emblems which is the only other mod I need to do. So now on to the motor swap. I started with two Revell engines. I had the 56 Nomad engine plus the 59 Corvette. Since most 55 Vett's had the automatic and the interior is also auto I started with the Nomad's engine. The Nomad had the correct valve covers that need to be chromed, I'll BMF them. Also the Nomad engine had the correct exhaust manifilds and belt system with the generator on the drivers side. I used the front cover and mounting system from the 59 Vette along with the air cleaner and fan shroud. Here is the pics of my mock up and scratch built engine mounts on the frame. This is just falling together so far.
  19. It's a great kit and you will enjoy it. I have built two myself. One as a 71 Charger RT and one as a 71 Charger Super Bee!! I used two more for the chassis and engines in kitbash projects!!
  20. To me a clean build is one that everything fits well together. The paint is smooth and the entire model just flows well. It does not have to be super detailed with lots of added detail but what it does have has to be done just right. Here are some of my own examples.
  21. Nice job, I really like this one. I have a 71 Challenger pace car project in my projects pyle.
  22. Amazing work. I can't wait to see some of them at the Desert Scale Classic! Are you coming this year?
  23. I don't want to derail this but since I started with a body from Greg. I cut the roof off all the way to the spoiler just infront of the upswing. Then I added a peice of flat styreen. This is the only pic of the plug before putty and carving the new trunk lines. This shot showes the putty being worked and the new trunk being roughed in.
  24. This is an interesting thread. This year was different for me. I completed 18 builds this year and purchased 15 unbuilt kit's. I also bought 8 built up rebuilders off ebay and 5 resin bodies. I'm trying to limit my spending on models and did good this year. I do have a hoard thou. I have about 300 unbuilt kits that includes about 30 started. Somewhere around 20 built ups for restoration and about 75 resin trans kits. I have 136 built on display.
  25. Here is a shot of Gregs kit. This photo is missing the trim rings that He cast in resin also. Also Greg won't be offended if anyone cuts one up. Here is mine after I cut the roof off!!
