  1. I agree with all of the above, especially 'Gasser Wars' and 'The Birth of Hot Rodding', however, recently I discovered this one at the California Auto Museum gift shop in Sacramento and so far it's a great read! Highly recommended.
  2. I used to think this too, then one night I was watching Norm Abram's 'New Yankee Workshop' and I realized that this man IS incredibly talented, but it occurred to me, "look at the tools this guy has at his disposal?!" I'm not saying that tools make the builder, but they certainly help. That's not to take away anything from the talented builders here at the forum who take the time to share their genius with us. Just remember, it's meant to be fun, 'progress, not perfection.
  3. The exclamation point on the Henry J farce was the decision to allow Sears & Roebuck to sell them through their catalogue as the 'Allstate' at a lower price than their own dealers!! Brilliant!!!
  4. Take your time and it can be a great kit, but patience is the key.
  5. It's not fair, It's just not fair!!!! John does in a couple of weeks what I couldn't do in a lifetime. But don't stop my friend, I enjoy watching your every build!
  6. Stealthy!!! Love it!!
  7. Can Teresi just get his own forum category here?! Better yet, John, start a 'Youtube' channel! I see many great builds by many talented builders, but I don't think I'm offending anybody when I say that JT's builds are in a league of their own. I look forward to NNLWest just to see what this guy's gonna bring! You never disappoint, John. Truly appreciate your sharing your techniques with us mortals.
  8. Hope your B-in-law's not a forum member, 'else you be in troubuulllllllll.
  9. You won't get any argument from me. I have an iPhone, because my last place of employment mandated that I have one. A month after I purchased it, (and after 25 years of dedicated service), they laid me off. So now I've got this phone with a 2-year contract. At least this app makes it somewhat worthwhile.
  10. As has been stated by many of you, at least two of those on the list were already on the ropes. I'm surprised the Oldsmobile Aurora didn't head the list. Oldsmobile trying to go head-to-head with Lexus and the like, huge mistake. What puzzles me, though is that GM chose to let go of the oldest marque in their stable. Personally, I'd have let go of Buick before Oldsmobile.
  11. Just came across this free app at the App store, imodelkit.app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/imodelkit-free/id393872482?mt=8 It's got a virtual paint mixer, scale calculator, and other neat tools that are handy to have. Anyhow it's free so check it out.
  12. Curious if anybody's heard whether or not there will be a model show at St. Lawrence Parish Hall in Sacramento, this year? I went the past couple of years and found it to be an enjoyable show with a great swap meet. Anyhow, I usually got info on this one at Riverside Hobbies, but since they went out of business, I haven't heard anything.
  13. I think the most entertaining part of this story was hearing of the sheer 'terror' upon discovering he was out of guitar string ends!! Just more proof that one man's junk is another man's treasure. Thanks for sharing!!
  14. Keep it. As someone else stated here, sometimes sharing a build like this along with a more recent build illustrates to newbies to the hobby, that it's all about progress, not perfection!! I love seeing examples of a great modeler's humble beginnings. It provides reassurance that with practice will come improvement. Thanks for sharing them both!!
  15. Uh, yeah John, I'd be embarrassed too, posting such a weak effort. My best build on my best day can't touch your 'worst' efforts, but that's why I follow your projects, I'm here to learn. Thanks for sharing your 'mistakes' with us too!
  16. Nicely done!! I tried this conversion awhile back, replicating a car I used to own.
  17. Sorry to hear this was your LAST factory stock build. I could look at builds of this quality all day long. Nice job, thanks for sharing your one and only.
  18. About 1968, (I was eight). The kit was purchased for me by a great uncle, the 'Skipper's Critter' Anglia. Loved it!
  19. Nice!!! Love the subtle weathering and engine detail.
  20. This is one of those builds where you slap yourself in the forehead, and say, "Why didn't I think of that?!" Great idea, well executed!
  21. "The custom has the usual mod's." ?! What circles are you running in? Never seen customs like this,....but I wish I did! Nice job!!
  22. Nicely done!!! This is what yours will look like in about 30 years:
  23. Well done!! ...To your daughter on a great first build and to dad for his encouragement and more-than-passing interest in his daughter's activities. You both deserve kudos!!
  24. Nice work!!! Especially love the attention to detail underneath.
