  1. Tamiya is a personal favorite, only paint I won't use are Testors/ModelMasters enamels.
  2. I remember my dad, while in the midst of a frame-off restoration of a 1:1 '38 Ford Coupe, had sent out for faux woodgraining, the inside window framing and dashboard. Upon opening the completed parts after return shipping, accidentally put a small scratch on one of the window frames. So as not to be tempted to use it that way, he immediately stooped to the ground and dragged the part over the rough concrete driveway. My jaw dropped when I'd seen him do this, but after he explained why, it sort of made sense. I suspect your snapping of the windshield may have some of this thinking behind it.
  3. Beautiful build!!! Just a suggestion, how about applying a black wash into those Kelsey-Hayes wheel spokes to add depth? Looks great though.
  4. '56 Ford doors. They work great during all the trial fittings - even after paint - but once into final assembly, they don't close properly. 3 attempts, still unsuccessful.
  5. Ahhh, the '56 Chevy,....Had a Bel Air 2-door hardtop, white/pinecrest green - especially loved how the left rear taillamp doubled as a gas door.
  6. It remains an annual, but sounds like they're considering higher frequency.
  7. There are many reputable online 'stores' to purchase from, but don't forget to patronize your local hobby shop. By buying local, any tax money you pay goes to support YOUR community services, not someone else's in another state. Any money that stays in your local community is the best money you'll ever spend. Sometimes it's worth spending a couple bucks more if it means local jobs and services. Just saying....
  8. I'd just love to see an accurate '57 Nomad and/or '56 Chevy Hardtop. Current offerings are so ridiculously out of proportion as to appear 'cartoonish'.
  9. 24951. (a) Any vehicle may be equipped with a lamp-type turn signal system capable of clearly indicating any intention to turn either to the right or to the left. 10. Great pic's!! This is a show I need to figure out a way to attend. Thanks for sharing.
  11. C'mon Harry, spend a few minutes with that image in P'shop, you'll see the potential. Stretch the frame, lower it about 3-4 inches, replace the steam power with a Hilborn injected Rat motor, candy paint,.....you get the idea.
  12. I could never understand why the rear wheel openings for this year Nomad were so high. The rest of the 55 lineup had the smaller openings which I always felt looked best.
  13. Love it!! Nice engine detail work and crisp color separation line on the paintwork.
  14. Thanks for sharing! How was the attendance? Number of models? I'm originally from the Milwaukee area and have always wanted to attend this show, but never seem to be in Wisconsin at this time of year.
  15. Like many here, I'm not sure what criteria should serve as the basis for designating someone a 'master' modeler. I've seen models that were loaded with one engineering feat after another, many operable features, but should one have to be a mechanical engineer to be considered? What if someone is capable of building an out-of-the-box kit so that the finished product looks like the 1:1 subject? Especially if the kit they started with isn't exactly 'state-of-the-art'. (Think Chrysler Turbine Car, or Orange Crate kits). In my mind they've accomplished something special. Fortunately, (or not), I'll never have to worry about this. I think when your focus is turned to 'standing' within the modeling community, you've missed the whole point of this great hobby.
  16. Mike, your GTO is looking fantastic, I had a '69 GTO convertible in High School, (Red with black top). Your mother will be extremely proud of the work you've done on this model, but what I'm most impressed with is your willingness to include your little brother. Trust me, these will be great memories for both of you when you get older. You're an awesome big brother and you're setting a great example for Charlie. Thanks for sharing your build and your story.
  17. Newspapers are nearly extinct. Plenty of people still prefer to read the print edition but no longer want to subscribe to what amounts to a 'brochure'. And fewer businesses want to advertise in them anymore. I worked as Art & Production director for a newspaper for 25-1/2 years, that's when the company decided that the folks who design the ads and pages were a luxury they could no longer afford. Ad rep's and editors now pull double-duty providing those services, resulting in job burnout for those folks and a less than desirable product for the reader/advertiser. Remember, newspapers are held accountable for what they report, while online 'news agencies' are largely unknown, untouchable and immune to the laws governing libel and other forms of misrepresentation, meaning that the credibility of what they provide will always be suspect. That my friends is where our society is in peril. Responsible people make critical purchasing, voting and other major life decisions based on what they believe from their news sources. Make sure you are relying on a reputable one. Better yet, support your local newspaper by purchasing a subscription. Rant complete.
  18. I'd have purchased one of your Charger wagons before I'd have plunked down money for a Magnum wagon. Nice idea!!
  19. Not a color combination I would have considered, but it works surprisingly well. Nice job on the build!
  20. Impressive collection, what say we see a few of these get to the 'under glass' forum?
  21. Wasn't this the same van and trailer included with the Penske Matador?
  22. "Do unto others...," applies here. It's okay to offer advice and constructive criticism, but remember the goal is to enlighten, not break the spirit of the builder. It's all in how the comments and critiques are offered. Never hurts to identify an aspect of the build that showed promise, followed by your idea(s). Try to remember when you were learning a new technique and what it would have felt like if someone ridiculed rather than encouraged you during that process. Same holds true here.
  23. Limited server space with this forum dictates that participants need to use a separate photo-archive service, such as 'Photobucket.com', Fotki.com, etc. Set up an account at one of those sites (it's free), upload your images there and copy the site-supplied image codes for the photos you wish to show here. Paste them into your comment and, 'Voila,' photo images for all here to enjoy.
  24. I wish Revell would have included a 'stock' option with their kits. Maybe they're saving that for later.
