Had the great fortune to meet Rich Guasco at the GoodGuys Pleasanton show this past August. Super nice guy, great story teller. Loved the story about how his dad found out he took his '29 Model A out street racing when he was a kid. When he arrived home his dad told him to pull it out back in the scrap yard. Rich's father told him he'd cut it up into pieces the next day. Rich decided to disassemble the Model A and scatter the parts throughout salvage yard until the heat blew over. A few weeks later he went out and recovered all the pieces and rebuilt the car that became the 1961 AMBR winner (Pictured) And of course we all know about his legendary 'Pure Hell' fuel-altered. Image below is a composite of a few shots including one of your's truly with the legend himself.

A bit off the subject, but I ran across this at the bookstore and thought some of you might be interested, (if you haven't already heard of it): http://www.ratrodmagazine.com/ -
Rat Rod Trucks
Qwit Pushin replied to mookie's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I'm afraid not on the Mopar engine query, your standard Chev 350/350 combo, does have posi rearend, power disc brakes and steering. Doc' your Chev's are fantastic, and thanks for the kind words regarding my truck. -

My dad passed away on this day in 2004. I try to do something positive on days like today to change the memory of it from sad to happy.

Love how 'deep' the paint is on this! What paint/color(s) did you use to accomplish this stunning finish?

Do You Follow the Instructions?
Qwit Pushin replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do until I see a conflict with something I want to add that might be a problem if I follow the steps in order. I find that I like to improvise a lot, which causes some deviation from the master plan, much like life.... -
I thought you guys should know...
Qwit Pushin replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tim, what I've discovered here is that there ARE many folks who are, indeed, the 'complete builder' Excellent paint, detail, fabrication, etc. But what I've also discovered is that many of us have excelled in one or two areas, and I gain as much from that guy as I do the 'complete builder'. I might find someone who's painting skills are still a work in progress, but they nailed the best way to open and hinge a door or deck lid. I suspect we'll be learning a thing or two from you too if you're courageous enough to post your accomplishments. I think you'll find the modelers here to be a very accepting and encouraging bunch. Welcome, my friend. -
SO YOU FINISHED YOUR MODEL, NOW WHAT?

Darin, that's the best comment I've read at this forum since I became a member, some 150-odd posts ago. Thanks for sharing!! -

Enlighten us 'Yanks', what's a 'Wobbly'? This side of the pond it would be too much to drink. -

My God, what I wouldn't give for that workspace!!! I make do with 5' x 8' room I built out in my garage. -
Thanks, looks like your fine build,...just a couple of decades of neglect later.

Great thread, here's my contribution:

Based on the 1911 Chevy answers many of you provided, I googled it and found this: http://books.google.com/books?id=mPAEAcs2ZaIC&pg=PA97&lpg=PA97&dq=1911+Chevy+model+kit&source=bl&ots=IBIbu25zzU&sig=JjwQ5EXbGIehyCqkcQGrLjzeKv0&hl=en&sa=X&ei=6wcfT93YLbO42QWtmKWjDw&ved=0CHcQ6AEwCQ#v=onepage&q=1911%20Chevy%20model%20kit&f=false

Great responses, all. As I say, I wouldn't have a clue. Also, interesting were the questions about what criteria dictates the rarest: desirability vs. absolute rarity; stellar craftsmanship in a particular build that gained it icon status among the modeling community - e.g.: any Dave Shuklis model; etc. Anyhow guys thanks for weighing in on this one, good food for thought.

I was just enjoying the 'Stashing Vintage Kits' post and got to thinking, "Baseball card collectors all seem to know which card is the rarest, I mean everybody knows an original 'Honus Wagner' trumps just about any card out there. I wonder what's considered the rarest model car kit?" Anyone care to weigh in? I have no idea, just curious.

Afraid not, was at a 'Goodguys' car show in Pleasanton viewing the model car exhibit, when one of the guys working the tables mentioned he had some resin parts for sale. I purchased these along with some 'guide' style headlights and some other miscellaneous items.

Built this about a year and a half ago.
