  1. I always thought the 'Hi-boy' reference was to designate that the car, in addition to being 'fenderless', sat ON TOP of the frame, not channeled over it. Channelled versions were nicknamed 'Lo-boys'. Have I been mislead?
  2. Good to know. Thanks, I'm headed over to check it out now.
  3. I must know how you achieved the louvers in the hood? That's fantastic.
  4. I agree, that is a great mag, however, I seem to have difficulty finding it on newsstands. Guess I'll have to become a subscriber.
  5. Man, did this strike a nerve! I'd hate to see a 'fever' chart showing my models built compared to models purchased - Worse, I'd hate for my wife to see it!
  6. 4 Started, 2 nearing completion, 1 scrapped out of frustration, and 1 delayed due to a change of heart regarding the type of build.
  7. I've noticed quite a resurgence in those wanting to relive the Gasser era in scale. With that in mind, I'd point you folks towards the most recent issue of Hot Rod Deluxe, ('Best of issue'). Within the covers of this great bimonthly mag' are great features on the historic cars, people and trends associated with hot rodding, but this issue also contains a multi-page offering entitled, '50+ Gassers'. Over 50 color and black and white images of some great old gassers from the past. Good reference material for that gasser project you've been wanting to do. Hit your local bookstores and enjoy!!!
  8. My 'library' consists of complete collections of Rodder's Journal, Collectible Automobile and a variety of hard and soft cover books relating to racing, customs and the 'Color History' series. That said, I think the reference material I rely on most are the digital images I take at car shows, museums and racing events. I know exactly what I need to see when constructing the model, so get detail shots of the areas of cars that are most relevant to my upcoming builds.
  9. Open shelves currently, however, I just purchased a very nice lighted display case from a local hobby shop going out of business, so will be transferring many to that shortly. Looked on Craigslist for some, but either they were overpriced or in questionable condition.
  10. Great fleet of shoebox fords there, Greg!! Absolutely perfect execution on each and every one.
  11. I'm not even a fan of the '65 Ford, but I love this take on it! Nice touch with the nod to the '57 Ford. Well done!
  12. My collection of kits is far greater in number than I imagined it would ever be, 25 years ago, when I started in this hobby. That said, many kits were deals found at garage sales, swap meets, etc., purchased for pennies on the dollar. As for aftermarket items, I can confess to a more than sizable investment there. However, through this forum and the 'tips' section of hobby sites and magazines, I've discovered many household items and building methods that have eliminated the need for purchasing many more. My prepared justification, (should anyone ask), is that I don't drink or smoke, so this one vice shouldn't offend anyone. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
  13. Having owned the real thing, I can say you did the 1:1 car proud! Nicely done, I've been contemplating a similar attempt on a coupe kit, but haven't been brave enough to begin. Purchased the boot from Modelhaus, (sans doglegs), and with the nudge your fine build provided, am ready to commence on my own. Thanks for providing the inspiration.
  14. Nice build, I'd like to add.
  15. My interest in all things automotive began at a young age, 1 to be exact, here's the proof:
  16. I can relate. Although, when a small part does hit the floor, (carpet or tile), it always seems to travel like the 'magic bullet' in the Kennedy assassination. It's never where you'd expect to find it,....that's IF you find it.
  17. Interesting. Look forward to seeing progress pic's once you acquire the kit.
  18. Love it!! Great color choice, and I concur with the exhaust exit ports suggestion. I'll be checking in regularly to see your progress. Thanks for sharing.
  19. Looks great! Great interior/exterior color combo. Extra points for the use of the redline tires.
  20. Love these trad' hot rod subjects, and yours is built to absolute perfection. Thanks for sharing a quality build.
  21. Great subject, even greater execution. Two thumbs up!!
  22. I love these kinds of builds, where you discover something in the 1:1 that you are compelled to build in scale. Nicely done!!
  23. Attended Sacramento NNL today - Purchased the following: Revell 49 Merc, 67 Dodge 'Drag-on Lady', '67 Vette fast-back, 56 Ford Convertible, Triumph TR3, and some other bits and bobs. Nice show, great folks. Roy Sorenson had a fund-raiser going there for fellow modeler, Randy Vandraiss, who is very ill. Folks seemed to be very supportive of his efforts.
  24. '40 Dodge Pickup, ('39 Plymouth front fenders, hood and grille, 350/350 Chev, 10-bolt posi, power disc brakes, power steering, Mustang radiator, Postal jeep gas tank, camaro front clip, '75 Granada gas door with inside release located on driver's side rear fender, Autometer gauges, Coker wide whites on custom steelies with caps and rings - A mutt for sure, but it's a blast to drive. http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m577/qwtpshn/40%20Dodge/40.jpg
  25. Here's another one for the 70: http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/johan-2/johan-cadillac-eldo/
