  1. No problem Mike. I actually run most of it past you truck guys. This my preference. If we lean that way, I will at least put a message or link here for sure.
  2. Thanks Jarda. It has taken its toll sometimes in logistics, but the talk around here between my school staff and my SGT. is to the effect that if we can point even just one kid in a good direction, then its worth every penny and every minute spent on it.
  3. Tom, I've never heard of the baby powder/super glue mixture. How do you mix it and then apply it without a big mess or an ugly blob?
  4. Whew.........good question. As much as I would like to stick with trucks, gotta shift it around a little. One of the students threw out NASCAR when were handing out trophies. May have to lean that way. I might get into a real challenge with that......
  5. Thanks Mike. I hadn't built a complete model in probably 15 yrs when I started this last year. So, it has been an awesome inspiration and boost for me as well. I hope I can sustain the program with the donations and breaks Hobby Lobby throws at me for many years. I keep hoping one of them will actually "Top" mine. We'll see.
  6. Looks good Brian. Now that my contest is over, I can get back to my GMC Astro. Did you go look at my pics for the contest?
  7. Dennis, Danno, thanks guys. And Danno, yes they are first time builders. I'm hoping I will spark even one up and they will steal away my "Best of Show" trophy. But so far I keep getting em.
  8. 3rd Place (one of the girls): The remainders are honorable mention and the 1st Place entry was fellow "Student Choice". Thanks for looking!
  9. OK as promised....plenty of pics. Mine was judged best of show. Removed all tabs that push through, filled in the slots for the interior and floor board mount tabs, and yes the CAT yellow is official. A buddy used to work at the CAT house and he gave me a gallon about 10 yrs ago. Sprays nasty though, the print for the special type of thinner mentioned has faded. Due to picture limits here, this may be in more than one post. Enjoy!! Mine: Turquoise and yellow/red stripe (N.M. colors-home state)
  10. OK......had the judging this morning. I still have top honors! And in case you are wondering...yes I am trying to win and put as much detail in mine to see if I can get one of these kids to step and really give me a run for the money. Was up till 4:00 a.m. for final touches though. Feel like a walking zombie. Rewards will be in about 30 minutes (3:30 TX)and as mentioned many pics tonight for update.
  11. OK........gonna kinda put the cart before the horse......so to speak. I pitched this project I have at one of the school campuses that I provide Police security for a little over a year ago and am finally doing trucks to show here. The school is the last chance for struggling students that have gotten themselves behind in credits, either medically for some, or discipline reasons, or the occasional pregnant teen. The way the contest works is like this....I build a model. (its cool, I build for work ) they in turn build one also to try and beat mine. Therefore "Top the Cop" . The students must hold only a passing grade (these aren't the next astro physicists you know ) and no discipline referral to ISS. (in school suspension). I in turn provide the kits, the prizes, the trophies, and the judges. (and yes, they are unbiased and have no idea which one is mine. We list by a number.) The reason for all this? I got behind on building mine and there is no time for WIP pics . So, I decided here at almost 1:00 a.m. and paint drying that I would put in a feeder of the WIP and show all of the kits on the post after the judging this Friday. I was actually surprised to have 8 students excited to build semi's too . BTW, many many thanks to Dennis (Cowboy Sevens) half of the Revell kits came via his generous donation. The playing field is set up very similar to IROC racing. We all have a 1/25th Revell kit. Some are the Pete, and others are the KW W-900 Aero. Oh....I have the KWhopper for mine. Wish me Luck We are on track. Clear coat is drying while I am at work. Should assemble this evening for the final pcs. Judging will be at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. Prizes will presented at approx. 2:30 TX time. I should have most if not all of the pics posted by 10:00 p.m. BTW....paint came out awesome. (at least I think so anyway) I suppose that would officially be all that matters. Major update tomorrow.
  12. I hear ya Rick.....sink it in ice and nobody will know its crooked.
  13. Cool, thanks again. Got me an old AMT KW (my very first truck model) I would love to rebuild as well. Dunk it in purple then let it soak in oven cleaner.
  14. Thanks Clayton, and Rick I would if the stupid thing was straight. The term "snake" comes to mind on this one. I have screwed up several kits in my early years by lack of experience, but I don't think I ever got something this small out of whack this much. I think if I mounted it as is..........one of the tire sets would be about 1/4 inch of the surface. Almost forgot to ask Clayton.....the spray on type? Is that all there is? Have to admit...the wife gets that stuff. Never used it.
  15. OK guys, I figured if anyone had an answer, it would be here. Is there anything out there that will soften the glue on a glue bomb without hurting the plastic. I found a trailer suspension in a parts box that I acquired elsewhere and it was put together with a more than necessary amount of what looks like Testors goop glue. And then to add to that it was never painted. If there are some good tips out there......let me know please. I would greatly appreciate it.
  16. I feel sooooo very sorry for you guys!!! I am so currently blessed right now by having what I call a gentlemans agreement between me and my 14lb. orange and white Tom. Plus he is also making sure the new kitten carries out the same understanding. I can place seperate pcs. on my bed behind my model desk and he will lay next to it, but he won't touch a thing! I really don't understand, because he will swipe my son's legos all day long. We find those things everywhere. But he will not mess with my models. Now if he will just do the same with my girl! That fiesty sucker nips my wifes toes all the time as well!!!
  17. Looking good. You will have yours done long before mine. I had to put it on hold until my contest W900 is complete. Luckily it is box stock other than a visor. I hate that it doesn't come with one. Keep up the good work.
  18. Hey Brian, you gonna go with round tank option or the square?
  19. Thanks guys, the problem right now, however, is I currently have at least 4 WIP going and a deadline for one being in the contest I posted a thread for many moons ago. My "Top the Cop" contest. I think I only mentioned it here. It got more coverage on the auto side. Somehow I talked 8 teenagers into building semis this go round. A correction: COWBOYSEVENS (Dennis) My brain had name mixed up. It said "Highway" and that is Matt. Sorry for the mix up guys. Dennis sent me some Revells and local donors bought the rest. That is my other chassis WIP. Needs to be finished in about 2 weeks, but I rrrreeeeaaallllyyyyy want to get this GMC farther along. Wish me luck. BTW heres my "Top the Cop" entry. KW W900.
  20. Heck Bob, its only a pup puller. Thats why I did it that way. If I was pullin a big flat bed I would leave the Detroit. What gets me is the fact that the Freight Shaker and all the work you see them doing........thats its motor. Normally aspirated cummins. I dont see how those rigs can get out of a wet paper bag.
  21. Thanks guys. I will cut off the pc on my side window that I dont want and practice on it.
  22. Posted pics last night for my GMC Astro and keep forgetting to ask. Front windshield has one of those "sitting in storage on top of a tire too long" type marks. Is there a way to fix it? And if the general consensus leans towards so-so on results..........would anybody happen to have one in the scrap bin? Same thing has happened to the driver side window but I wanted to cut it down to the quarter window anyway. (Like my windows open)
