Old car kit ...any value?
MikeeD replied to MikeeD's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ouch! But that was probably good money then. Wish I had another one of those, last one I built cost a buck and a half! And a Big Deuce was $19.95. Now they're $200.00! Unbelievable! -

Whoa...$75.00?...$90.00?...Oh man, you guys are gonna scream...lol...I just paid 6.50 for this off e-bay! No joke! And actually, when I was buying it, I thought it was a 2dr ht!...lol it had a little pic and didn't show well to me. Imagine my surprise when I opened it! And now, I find it's worth alot more...I may just put it on the shelf for now. Thanks for all the info guys..I feel much better now.. -
that cool little grill shell just sets off an already gorgeous T! Nicely done! that cool little grill shell just sets off an already gorgeous T! Nicely done!

oh, I like that!!! Nice build! It has the special order wide bed. In '29, you could order a wider bed that had a steel bottom, as opposed to the regular narrow bed that had wood slats. Nice touch! And I agree about the fenders, deleted looks really sweet! Cool old school rod.

There ya go....that one gets my attention...nice! Good color choice, gonna look sweet done! Ya gotta love old school!
-
Ooooooooooooo....nice elky! Not too sure about the blue lights, but the rest is spot on! Nice aggressive stance. You gonna do the chrome trim?

Revell '29 Ford Pickup
MikeeD replied to Terror's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Well, with that A looking that cool, the tires won't be the deciding factor...that's gonna be a sweet, sweet looking rod. -
What engine should I use?
MikeeD replied to charlie8575's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Wow..tough call. I have that truck in a die cast and from what I can tell, even with the hood open, you wouldn't be able to see alot of motor detail, but, nonetheless... A bone stock new Hemi, or a 383 with dual quads on a cross ram would look really cool. I think the 64 Plymouth has one. -
Revell '29 Ford Pickup
MikeeD replied to Terror's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
A perfect start! That has THE look! The only thing I'd change is to black out the whitewalls. Old hot rods didn't have whitewalls...mama's car had whitewalls, we couldn't afford 'em... Please stay with the 4 banger...way cool motor. I have the same one on my bench right now going in a 29 pick-up. I'm gonna watch this one... -
Nice build Todd....you gonna do the chrome trim? That would really set it off.
-
In the bed, huh? Hmmmmm...how about a cool toneau ( how the heck do you spell that word? ) cover? The kind that snaps down, not the hard glass ones. Maybe with an bowtie in the middle? Nice truck though...has a cool stance..looks mean.

Posting in the Right Place
MikeeD replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Far be it for me to tell you guys how to run your site...But..( here's the infamous but ) it sounds to me from what I'm reading here that perhaps we need more classification breakdowns for the "grey area" builds. Or maybe a Misc. section for those in question. Personally, I think you guys do a fantastic job of providing a cool site for us to express ourselves, model wise. And I for one, am really thankful to find a site as well moderated as this one. So, if I post in the wrong place, remember, I have " Old-Timers"...or at least I think I do, I don't remember... -
Very, very nice build Samantha! Atta boy, girl!
-
That's really nice! My stepfather showed me a pic of his Model A he had as a kid...same color. Robin's egg blue it was called. Looked almost exactly like that one. Thanks for posting that, it made an old man smile!
-
Wow...that's just cool! Man,I don't think they make a magnifying glass big enough for me to make one of those...
-
Oooooo man......that's a really charp chebby essay...... All kidding aside...I like it!
-
THAT is why I don't build those things! That is absolutely stunning and has done a perfect job of making me feel absolutely inadequite!
-
Hahaha...I love you guys......I have exactly 1 ( yea...one! ) car on my bench, a 29 ford pickup I'm working on right now between all my 1:1 cars..: '99 Grand Cherokee getting a motor transplant '79 Chev 1/2t snb lowrider has timing issues '90 Coupe Deville has charging issues '76 VW trike needs wider fenders But my Mazda truck is running great... But, I swear I'm gonna finish that 29....really...promise...no kidding...

Old car kit ...any value?
MikeeD replied to MikeeD's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow...interesting. Thanks for the info. Yea, I think it might take me awhile to get the nerve to tackle this too. Not because of complexity, mind you, but nerves... It does look like it would go together pretty well though, I kinda hand fitted some of the parts and they matched up pretty well considering it's age. I just hope my eyesight is up to it...and these old fat fingers. CCSS....You're right man...but it's taking that first step...you know? It's kinda skeery... Thanks guys.....'preciate it! -
painting question
MikeeD replied to plasticnewbie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, for primers...1 hour is plenty, finish lacquers at least 24 hours, and finish enamels 48 hours. Clear coats I'd give a week. That's been my experience...with models anyway. It's lil different than 1:1 cars Unless you have a heated paint booth or " cook room ". That will shorten your time considerably, and harden the paint. Find a 2ft by 2ft cardboard box and line it with tin foil and set it on it's side and use a heat lamp...makes a neat little "cooker". Just don't use a heat lamp too strong...it'll melt your car... -
Ok...I just accquired this kit, it's complete far as I can tell. Has the original yellowed (aged) instructions. Includes decals, the whitewall decals are shot from age, the rest are great! The axles have some rust. Copyright on the box reads 1958. Scale I'm not sure of...1/29 maybe? Looks like a pretty cool kit, lots of custom pieces. Haven't seen too many custom 4 door cars. Anybody have any idea what this is worth, if anything? I almost hate to build it, it's so old. Do I have something here or just an old 4 on the door Merc?

Recent Turmoil on the Forum
MikeeD replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I may be just a new guy here, but I have to agree with you Greg. I was under the impression we were all adults here, all enjoying this tremendous hobby of ours to the best of our ability. I barely have enough time to build anything, let alone whine or complain about someone else. Without intending to offend anyone, if any of you have a problem...grow up and deal with it in an adult manner, get over it, and move on with your build! Is that so tough? I think you guys are doing a great job on this site, keep it up! -
Personally, Id go with either a nice white pearl or a sweet shade of silver with that red. Keep the wheels and tires moderate, not overdone. Those make a really sweet looking street truck. As for the engine, I'd go with the six. Maybe 3 webers or fuel injection...but that's just me...I'm old school But I think anyway you do it, it's going to be a neat truck..

Wow guys...those all look really good! You've given me some really great inspiration and ideas....looks like it's time to put some of that info to work. Thanks a million for the input guys....you guys here are fantastic...thanks again!
