What does "no selling on the forums" mean?
LDO replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Spam campaign announcing an upcoming book=OK, as long as no price is mentioned. -
How big is your work table ?
LDO replied to Fender's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
3'x8'...or so. I found a guy selling commercial exterior doors on Craigslist. They're something like 1.5" thick and the door handle hole has cords passing through it. Oh yeah, an electric pencil sharpener cord, too. I got a couple of those when my National Guard company got rid of them. Great for reference marks while cutting and kitbashing. The supports are a pair of 2-drawer file cabinets. One has hanging files in it to organize my Evergreen plastic sheet and strips. A file for each step up in size (.010", 015", .020", etc, then other shapes like half-round, tube, triangular, etc.) The work surface is a glass door from an old stereo cabinet. I don't know if those things are still made, but whenever I see one put out with the trash, I take it. I have 3 or 4 extras, and I've never broken one. Cleanup is a breeze; just use a razor to scrape off glue or paint. The flat surface is also great for getting things aligned, like making sure all 4 wheels are on the ground. No pictures...it looks like a bomb went off in there. Oh yeah, I have a second one in the garage for the Sherline lathe and mill. -
Styrene Stars book?
LDO replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm sure we'll get lots of info here, even though advertising is (cough, cough) not allowed. -
I can only comment on the Cadillacs. They're junk. They are copies of the IMEX/ARAI Cadillacs and the detail is soft on them. Also- the bodies have an orange peel texture. There's a reason they're so cheap.

I seriously need to spend less on models and more on real cars, but a 1/8 Aventador would be ***awesome*** I'd buy one.

I did the same thing a few years ago...buying pre-war kits, that is. One to avoid is a Mercedes 500 or 540 (don't remember which) from Heller. Its body has a weird split line in it, and in order to replicate chrome trim on the doors, they chromed both doors.

Oh please lock this thread. This could be a train wreck of epic proportions. WE ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS.

Are you going to change the '30/'31 cowl to a '28/'29 style? It can be done with a Revell '29 pickup cowl.

A truck or van wouldn't fare any better. I saw photos of a plumbing van that exploded in a guy's driveway. An acetylene tank had been slowly leaking overnight and the plumber started the van by remote control. Van parts in several yards and on a roof or two. Destroyed a boat on a trailer, too.

Round 2 wants to know what you want!
LDO replied to Blown03SVT's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They need to make an all-new tool of a '62 Dodge Polara with full engine and chassis detail. My uncle drove one when he was in high school and wants me to build him a model of it. They'd be making a huge mistake by not building this car. Just kidding. It's a hideous pile of dog poop on wheels and no one would buy it....just like half the requests in any thread like this. Don't even get me started on the ridiculous "$250,000 Challenge" annual contest from another site. -

Have you ever seen the Mk II owned by head Goodguy Gary Meadors? It was in Custom Rodder in the mid-'90s. Subtle mods and a stunning car. Check it out on Google (I may have the owner's name wrong, but he is head of the Goodguy R&C organization) -

It's good to see that those '50s cars are doing so well. It gives me hope that my daydream ('56 Continental Mk II) might come true. Such an elegant car. -

AMEN. Good grief, what percent of the reponses are of the "build the boring sedan I drove to high school" variety?? -
'50 Olds fastback...any market?
LDO replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Oh heck yeah! Slanted B-pillars, too! I'd pre-order one today. -
Need help. Wanting to make a resin duplicate.
LDO replied to IMPALA SS 427's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
It can't hurt to ask resin casters if they would be interesyed in selling copies of your car body, and give you several copies as payment. I did that with an out of production drag car a while back. -
Bugatti Royale Napoleon Coupe Chassis #41100 1930 in 1:75 scale
LDO replied to caapa's topic in Model Cars
Very nice, but why the unusual scale? -
I couldn't find it. Can you post a link?

Good grief. After reading all of this, I don't blame Revell for not making an "official" request for our input.

No idea, but you can get a different liquid cement that is already about as thin as water. Get a can of MEK at the hardware store. It's a strong solvent, so use sparingly. I apply it with a tiny paintbrush. Don't use brushes like the type on the bottom of a cap. It will hold too much MEK. Test it first so you don't melt your prized kit parts.

Wow, Bobber. You really had to do some searching to bring up a 6-year old thread. Check with Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland. Also check with a guy from this forum; ModelMartin. He has a company that makes resin parts and kits. At one time he offered a 300mm rear tire for the Revell chopper. It also had a wheel and parts to modify the frame and belt drive. -
Uncle Potts: good guy. I got a pair of glue bomb 1/16 Revell Chevy Pickups for a sealed Heller Delahaye 135. I kinda feel guilty for that one. I'm going to offer him another kit.
