  1. OK, who's gonna turn the cab into a rat rod?
  2. You didn't want to go with the Hello Kitty 512TR???
  3. Well it's good to see you're doing the right thing and hot rodding it.
  4. Milliput Superfine White. You can shape it with wet fingers/tools. It will cure in about 24 hours. Sands like a dream, but I haven't tried machining it. If you're going to attach it to plastic and then remove it, lay down some Bare Metal Foil. That will allow it to stick while curing, but pop it right off when you're ready.
  5. The Allison engine is from an AMT Parts Pack. You can find them on ebay all day long. The COE with an Allsion was built by Jim Lytle and called "Big Al III". It was later bought by Tex Collins and renamed "The Bad Brahma Bull". Pics and info are not easy to find. Somewhere around I have a backissue of New Zealand Hot Rod magazine with a story on Jim Lytle, with pictures of his Allison-powered vehicles; the White COE, BMW Isetta, Quad Al, and of course Big Al.
  6. <dons fireproof suit> Molly Saleen And Dick Dastardly
  7. A long-distance dedication: [v]http://youtu.be/yOTmCd2gQ_I[/v]
  8. A long-distance dedication: [v] [/v] But seriously- cool story.
  9. Comicus represents everyone bitching about politics. Bea Arthur's comments...well, they're timeless.
  10. There's a lot of knowledge on The Jalopy Journal. Here's a thread about exactly what you're asking: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236979&highlight=by+side+engines&showall=1 They also discuss other places to get more answers, like drag boat and vintage dragster sites. There are also threads on tandem twin installations. Having said all of that, I can't resist putting in my 2 cents. Don't do it. I also like unusual engines. Several years ago I bought a Packard straight-8 out of a car headed for the crusher. I think straight-8 are just the coolest, but a rebuild kit is over 1300 bucks. That's just buying the parts. It's a 925 pound engine that might make 250hp with a supercharger. I'm about to unload it for less than half what I paid. For less than the price of the rebuild kit, I could have a Ford 460 rebuilt with a warranty. I know that tire-shredding hp is not what it's all about, but unless you have loads of cash to put in a super-heavy drivetrain that will not make as much power as a bone-stock Ford 4.6, just go with something more practical. Dreams are cool, but a running car is cooler.
  11. If you are talking about 1/24 or 1/25, try the flocking. People use it for upholstery and carpets, but it's way out of scale. If those models were enlarged 24 or 25 times, they'd have shag carpet covering their seats.
  12. Does it have a story on a Stutz Blackhawk LSR replica? I saw that in an ad announcing the special issue. Will pick it up later today regardless.
  13. I'll need to do some experimenting. I built a model of the Pisano Olds funny car years ago (almost 20 years ago). It's long gone, but a friend who saw it has been encouraging me to build another. Looking at the photo, it's obvious that I'll need to airbrush it to get that fade. In 1994, I didn't have Google Image Search, so I just used the Slixx instructions for "Pearl orange". Yeah, it's all coming back now. The model turned out pretty nice, but it was my first time using pearl powder. I masked over the pearl not knowing to clear coat it first. I didn't notice the "tiger stripe" effect where pearl was lifted off until after the clear. Bummer. It will look better this time.
  14. I've got one of these in my stash (not my photo)
  15. And will you post photos? I'm wondering how it looks. I picked up a can today at the LHS. Thinking about it for a Pisano Olds funny car. Thanks, Lee.
  16. land speed racers, pseudo land speed racers, early drag cars, hot rod warbirds. The possibilities are mind-boggling
  17. I have a suggestion: don't sell yourself short. At 21 bucks a sheet, with markings for 6 cars and some generic numbers and sponsor decals left over, that's a bargain. Who else sells such nice decals for $3.50 a car? Man, this makes me want to buy a couple of those midgets.
  18. Ian- Let me know if you need any parts and what their numbers are. I have 2 of these that will one day be pro/street cars. No need for stock engines/tires/etc.
  19. The airframe of that missile would make a cool land speed racer.
  20. Mark Gustavson. Not only does he have a great sense of style, his magazine articles and book showed lots of people how to customize their own model cars.
  21. Awake for 4 1/2 days?! My record is 3 days and 6 hours, and that was because I was in the Army and had no choice.
  22. That stretched Deora hauler sure is wild.
  23. Somewhat off-topic: I got two kegs that way. I was in a junk yard looking for a part and saw a keg in a car. Turned there were two. It was wrecked and the owner didn't clean out the car beforfe it was towed in. I once picked up a keg in my '88 Mustang. It was too heavy to wrestle into the back seat and I didn't want it to roll around in the hatch area, so I put it in the front passenger seat and put the seat belt on. I got thumbs up from several peope who saw it
  24. In "Forensic Files", they ALWAYS use the wrong cars for reenactments.
  25. Or get some plastic rivets. You can get lots of different sizes from Tichy Train Group. If you want chrome, go with Cranky's idea and use push pins. Just get wire cutters and snip to length.
