  1. FYI- Tamiya's pearl clear has a tiny bit of blue in it. Nothing wrong with that, just something to be aware of.
  2. No experience with them. I read an article in an IPMS Journal about making a booth with a squirrel-cage fan from a furnace. You might be able to get a used one of those for free from an HVAC shop. If you lived closer, I'd give you one for free. I picked up a pair of them at work.
  3. Looks like "Unique Replicas" http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-MUSTANG-BOSS-429-ENGINE-1-24-UNIQUE-REPLICAS-/400191866470?pt=Diecast_Vehicles&hash=item5d2d4b4666
  4. Not me. Really interesting photo shot recently in Libya. Lots of debate on whether or not that guitar was photoshopped into his hands, but this image and two others appear on the Getty Images website.
  5. When they answer the phone, they say "Tah MEE yah"
  6. OR JUST GO TO PSAB. http://client.sigmachat.com/sc.php?id=12510
  7. Better yet- an engine that runs on Essence of Gelfling, complete with essence extractor and dried-out husk of a Gelfling!

  9. How about a 24-cylinder diesel with 8 blowers? IIRC, it has 2 more under that wacky manifold.
  10. Finally got the engines. They're sitting next to a 1989 Mustang convertible parts car. It gave up its drivetrain for my 1988 hatchback. Next up is a 460. Also in the pic is my gigantic hoist. It's 8 feet tall. I was told it's used for big rigs. It has no problem lifting an engine and transmission clear of a Fox Mustang. Lifting the big blocks out of a pickup bed was effortless, too. I got it for $225 last year. Quite a bargain, IMHO.
  11. I heard from a reliable source that there is a '50s car in the works and a new version of the '48 Chevy.
  12. Sorry, that's a photo I snagged from Google for an example. Mine are not so pristine. No complaints from me, though.
  13. No pics yet, but I got a PAIR of Ford 385-series big blocks. A 429 and a 460, long blocks, plus a pair of cast aluminum Holley valve covers. The heads are off and they both need rebuilds, but hey, for $225, who's complaining? One is for my 1988 Mustang, the other is for a buddy's 1967 Mustang.
  14. Here's my first effort with this stuff. It's the front half of a 1/25 P-38 drop tank. I got the measurements wrong on the back so I just cut it in half. I'll try to make a new back half. I don't want to waste any of this stuff. I started with two long, thin rectangles. I marked off the center lengthwise and made a small notch for the lathe's live center. I used a few small drops of super glue to hold them together. After machining, I slid an X-Acto in between them and popped the two halves apart. They will be vacuform masters so I can end up with a thin shell.
  15. No idea on the rust issue. I haven't found it in modeler-friendly quantities from any dealer. I stumbled across someone selling scraps. Maybe we could get several guys together to buy a giant chunk, then have it cut into smaller pieces.
  16. I don't have any photos yet. I don't know what density it is; I found a guy who had some scraps available so I got them. The color is a brownish pink, almost like granite. I did a Google search and from the color, I'd guess I have Renshape 440. I'd say it has about the same density as Basswood, but of course no grain. Renshape is a machinable high density foam. Later today, I'll find out if it can be drilled and tapped, for now, I have to go to a company BBQ. Later

Cool car. I opened the thread expecting Scott Sullivan's pr/street '55 Chevy. Y'all remember that photo, right?
  18. That stuff machines LIKE BUTTA! It DOES make a lot of dust, however. I saw a big wet/dry vac on clearance at Lowes today. I'm going to go get it tomorrow morning. It makes so much dust that I think I'll whittle away as much as I can before turning it on the lathe. You gotta get some of this stuff.
  19. about 4 pounds of Renshape cutoffs. WOOHOO! Renshape!
  20. Not an Allison or Merlin, but still pretty wild:
  21. This scan of the instruction sheet says the engine is a Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin. That could explain why it looks different from an Allison V-1710.
  22. Glossy paint? You are the man.
