I think it's annoying that a lot of polishing kits skip over 3600 grit. Some even skip over 1800. The last time I got one, it didn't have a foam sanding block. GRRRR! Anyway- some internet searching turned up a Micro-Mesh Woodworker's Kit. It has 2 of all grits, even going down to 1500, plus a sanding block. One place offered it for $57.76+ shipping. Not a bad deal, but still spendy. More searching turned up a kit with one each of everything for $21.99. I just ordered 2 of them. I don't know if I can mention a vendor's name on here, but a brief search for "Micro-Mesh Woodworker's Polishing Kit" will find it for you...although, I did buy the last 2 in stock at that place Still, a good deal for your money.

Obscure Kits You Never Knew Were Made...Until Now
LDO replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wonder if that was issued when "Daktari" was on TV, and called a hunting jeep in order to avoid paying royalties? (wrong vehicle, too, but hey) I watched that show as a kid. I'm guessing in reruns, but I was a kid. -
I have a friend who worked at UT Austin. He was working on the drain for a dorm building. They had posted notices saying don't flush between X and Y times, so of course everyone flushed while he had the pipe cut open. Eh. I woulda done the same LOL

You don't KNOW how bad I want to do that and send my boss a picture. I picked up the new Chrysler kit today at the LHS. Yes, I'll spend 4 bucks more at the LHS just because I like having an LHS. I'm also picking one up for a buddy in New Zealand.

A quick Google search makes me think it was likely this one. I do love some lead sleds, and when I saw this car, I thought that just screams Richard Zocchi. Sure enough... (edit). Two great pics I found just won't post here. It was built by Richard Zocchi. I love that grille, too I just found out it's a Chrysler Windsor, though. I need to make a new title for this thread...Meh. I'll just gather photos and break out the razor saw and putty.

I just may. I'm a plumber, btw. My new boss said he wants me in a work van "the MOMENT" the drug screen results come back. He said giving 2 weeks' notice is the right thing to do, but he needs me in a truck now. I've asked a couple of friends to write "I'm outta here" on me <ahem> in a spot that I can't reach, but no takers so far.

I'm so excited. I just can't hide it... Anyway- I'm leaving a job that has been a nightmare and going back to the company where I was laid off 2 years ago. I'm so happy to be leaving my current job. I can hardly put it into words. I'm even going back making more than when I left. I just feel so lucky. No job is perfect, but it's hard to imagine a job worse than the one I'm leaving. Life is great!

I know it was in August. Was it 2009 or 2008? I'm thinking 2009...so 2 years and 8 months ago.

I saw the MP4/12C GT3 but no mention of the F1. -
Tamiya lacquer over red plastic. Any special advice?
LDO replied to LDO's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Whoa. Cool. I have some of that. Do I need to thin it? What do I use for airbrush cleanup? I'm guessing lacquer thinner would do the trick. -

I'm using Tamiya spray can grey primer. Will that be enough? -
Art mentioned using perf-board from Radio Shack. That would be you platform. They also sell "project boxes" that make up the rest of the vacuum former. I made a 6x9 vacuum former like this last year. You'll need to find a way to get you vacuum cleaner hose to make a tight fit to the box I used several plumbing fittings and wrapped a little masking tape around the end of the hose. Here's an idea for your bubble top: get the top of the car the way you want it (If you'll be making any changes for the base of the bubble) then cover the area with Bare Metal Foil. Use Milliput Superfine White epoxy putty over the BMF to form the base (or all) of the buck. The BMF acts as a mold release, allowing you to pop the buck right off of your car. When vacuum forming, raise the buck off the platform so the vac-formed part curls under it just a bit. When you cut it off the buck, you'll be very close to a good fit to the car.

Can you post a picture of the box art? -
I just got a call. I had pre-ordered one and now it's here. Unfortunately, it may be a while before I can get over there, for personal reasons...but still-WOOHOO! I can't wait to pick it up.

What? No April Fools Humor Today?
LDO replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A few years ago, the LHS owner told me that several customers had been asking for carbon fiber spray paint seen in an April Fools ad. I believe that was in Model Cars Magazine. -
In the path of destruction
LDO replied to Sam Cates's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My dog chewed up a Fujimi 1/16 Ferrari BB512 tire once. It was my fault for leaving it out where she could reach it, so of course I didn't yell at her. A Monogram Packard boattail speedster that I entered in a contest melted in my back seat. After the contest, I put it back in its little display case and put it in my car. It sat there for about a week, but it was February. What's the worst that could happen? It looked like someone put it in the oven.
