  1. It doesn't compare to the one offered by Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland.
  2. You still there? Did you get any of the stuff on the list?
  3. Congratulations! Just remember- they're not really going to punch you in basic training. It's all a mind game. They will push you to your limits and beyond. Go for a duty station overseas. You've got the rest of your life to see America. Uncle Sam will pay you to live in another country. You can't take a bus trip to the Paris Air Show from Fort Hood. If you never fire a shot in anger, remember it's because you're a part of the best military in the world, and that's why not many want to mess with you.
  4. Am I the only one who expected something entirely different???
  5. Any rifle with a .532" bolt can be barreled in .375 H&H. IMHO, it's hard to beat a Remington 700. If you want to build a custom, a gunsmith can easily true the action, put any barrel you want on it, and tune the trigger. If it's not currently available in .375 H&H, just get a .300WinMag or 7mm Remington Magnum. Shoot as-is for a while and when you want to go custom, you'll have a great rifle to base it on. Other rifles cost more but Remington makes about the best workhorse-type rifle you can buy. To get better quality, you'd need to skip right over the Weatherbys and other higher-price rifles and go for something like a very expensive Dakota or other Mauser/Model 70 clone. As for .375 H&H "taking over as hard hitter...better than .50cal". There's just no way. E still equals mc2 . A bullet with twice the mass moving at the same speed will have more energy.
  6. It has a whole lotta knock-down power. The .30-'06 will take down pretty much anything in North America (I've heard it will take down anything in North America, but I'd want a little extra if facing a Grizzly or Polar Bear). Having said that, I've never been hunting and I never fired a shot in anger against a man. Punching holes at 1,000 yards was exciting. Waiting 3 days in a tree for a deer does not sound exciting. Add to that the cost of doing so in Texas and you can fuggedaboutit.
  7. No. It's LongDistanceOperator. It reflects my interest in long-range shooting, both in in an M1A1 Abrams tank and 1,000yard benchrest rifles...although I no longer do either of those. Not my rifle but I had one very similar:
  8. There's a reason for that. This is basically another "I think you should make a new model of the 1974 Oldsmobile Delta 88 because I drove one to high school and I would build the heck out of it" thread. I'd build the heck out of this, but I'm not holding my breath.
  9. Alright. Give me a couple of days. In the meantime, you'll need: A diecast Go-cart to pull the body off of. I wish you had been online last night. There was a 1/6 scale G.I. Joe go-kart on ebay that went for 10 bucks. Scan ebay often. You'll find another. Sheet styrene. I'd go with .060" for this first project. A good stainless steel triangle, either 30/60/90 or 45/90 some fresh x-acto blades liquid cement. I prefer Weld-On 3 but Tenax and Testors can also be used Wet/Dry sandpaper, the type used for auto body repair. Go from around 200 grit to 600. Putty. Get the type used for real cars. I prefer Evercoat-brand glazing putty but Milliput Superfine White might be a better choice for a first project. It is available at hobby shops. Go to Radio Shack and get a Project Box and a piece of Perf Board that fits it. I believe the measurements are around 6x9.
  10. http://www.pexsupply.com/Johnson-Controls-A419ABC-1C-Single-Stage-Digital-Temperature-Control-120-240v-SPDT I have a Johnson Controls thermostat on a chest freezer in my garage. It's set at 68degrees for fermenting beer
  11. It's a real model of a proposed new Indy car design.
  12. Am I the only one who read the subject line as "Oyster Dehydrator..."? Who wants dehydrated oysters??!!
  13. It's a light-hearted jab at posts like "What color should I paint my model car?", or "What should I build for my next project?". The answer is "Whatever YOU want". I went with 2 bagels, some fresh pineapple, and coffee. As much as I love bacon and eggs, I don't eat them very often. I need to lose weight and eat better.
  14. Start with a diecast. There are several on ebay right now in 1/16, 1/18, and 1/24. Make your first scratchbuilding project a conversion rather than a complete car. Just make a body to go over the diecast chassis. For the body, carve a master and vacuum form over it. I would make the master from styrene, but that's my personal choice. Let me know if you want more info, like a tutorial.
  15. 15" Troyke Rotary Table for my Bridgeport mill. I got it off Craigslist. The seller said it was unused. Price was $175. In Texas, that's just unheard of. There's just not enough heavy industry to see things like this up for sale...ever, but at this price? I figured it was too good to be true. The funky color on the table is cosmolene! I saw one on ebay last week with a huge chip missing out of the base for $540 + shipping on a 230lb chunk of steel halfway across the country.
  16. Another vote to "bring it!". Even if 500 people are not inspired to make an exact copy of your project, no doubt some will be inspired to try your technique on a different project. If it's in print, they can always go back to it when they finally do decide to try it. I got Wingrove's books for Christmas around 1990 or so. I finally tried hammering out an extended hood for a Big Deuce in 2001.
  17. Ahhh....hold on- the bacon will be crispy. Too crispy to pick up with a fork. The eggs will be over easy. Put a little Tabasco on them, squeeze the yolk out and eat only the whites. Put more Tabasco on the yolks, stir it around, then soak up with dry toast, lightly toasted. Was it all down with Coke..oh man, that's the stuff right there. Con: all the cholesterol. Pro: I haven't done that in a while
  18. BTW- the driver figure from Tamiya's old 1/24 Lamborghini Countach would be ideal. He's wearing nomex + helmet and darn near laying down on his back.
  19. Sorry kiddo. Too late for that
  20. It's either bacon & eggs + Coca Cola or a couple of bagels w/ cream cheese and coffee.
