Oscar- Swapping parts between kits is called "kitbashing". Another English poster on this site built a drag car with a Jaguar 6cyl engine, 1930s BMW body, many other kit parts, and lots of scratchbuilt components. The only limit is your imagination. That 250 GTO you got is a nice kit. The engine looks really good in it. If you display it with the bonnet closed, you might consider keeping the engine for some street rod without a bonnet. I know of 2 full-size 1932 Ford roadsters with Ferrari V-12s, and I once saw a T-bucket with a Lamborghini V-12.

King's Hobby nearly went out of business. They canceled all their magazines and still don't have MCM. They have no plans to carry it again. I know of two Hobbytowns, neither of which carries MCM Village Hobby went out of business at least 2 years ago, maybe more.

Your first picture looks like resin parts. If that's what you're referring to as $20 + $10 shipping, it may be the best deal around. I doubt two resin companies make the same thing, and if so, the prices will not be too far apart. Your only other option is to scratchbuild the manifold ("pyramid") and get the rest from a kit or two. You will easily spend $30 or more doing that, plus the time and money spent learning to scratchbuild. Thirty bucks is not such a bad deal.

I'm not sure you do. You and Cosmic seem to think that your opinions are absolutely right. "Why would anybody do something if I think it's a bad idea?". There are many opinions. None are wrong. If you want a Mustang instead of a Volt, more power to you. I really don't think that the Volt will roll out the door for $40k. There will likely be rebates offered by dealers and government, both state and local. The whole idea that a Hummer make less pollution than a Prius is debatable, at best. Remember, that notion relies on people putting 300,000 miles on that Hummer (if you take everything else in that hokey report at face value). Right now there are 387 Hummers on eBay. The highest mileage on any of the civilian models is 177,000. Only 11 have 100,000 miles or more.

Your perception...and reality...may be different than someone else's. I know, hard to believe. Just take my word for it. Some people...who may not be you...will want to buy a vehicle that goes 40 miles without using gasoline.

Here's the thing: everyone on the planet does not share your point of view. Not everybody believed the "Hybrids pollute more than Hummers" story. Who would want a Chevy Volt? Someone who drives less than 40 miles a day and wants to do it without burning any gasoline. Is it the same person who would buy a Prius? Maybe, maybe not. I'd like to have a car that gets great mileage, but I'd choose a VW turbodiesel. Great mileage and no battery pack to wear out. No one is going to force a microcar down your throat. The CAFE standard is going up. That means the big three can still build gas guzzlers, but they'll have to build smaller, fuel-efficient cars as well. With the price of fuel climbing again, high-mpg cars may be just what Detroit needs.

US Army 1996-2000 in Germany. I built airplanes in garrison and when I got deployed to Macedonia. Texas National Guard 2000-2008. Deployed twice and built models on both deployments. I find it relaxing and it may have been the only reason I didn't lose my mind in Afghanistan. I got out because of burnout.

I can't put the Mustang on a rotisserie. It's on wheels, but pretty much everything is stripped off of it. If you're really serious about this project, let me know and I'll push it into the driveway and shoot some photos.
