Vinegar And Water-Decal Setting Solution
69NovaYenko replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Decals almost always need some manner of adjustment...I`ve never placed one on a car and it dead on exactly how I wanted it.I have found some decals react poorly to some setting solutions. On occasions I have applied a very tiny, tiny drop of Future with the tip of a tooth pick to some decals to get them to stay put..and it also allows for some adjustment before setting. -
I was casually chatting with some of the folks at my LHS the other day when one of the guys stated the he used vinegar to set his decals instead of wasting his money on the "proper" stuff. He says he mixes 2-3 caps of the white vinegar into the small container that holds his warm decal soaking water. He then soaks the decals until they come off (1 to 2 minutes on average) their paper backing. According to him the vinegar/water solution softens the decals enough to make them conform to body curves etc. as well as snugly adhere to the cars surface. He also says the vinegar and water solution works well with both inkjet and laser printed decals. Is anyone familiar with this method.

looking for mechanical fuel pumps
69NovaYenko replied to LVZ2881's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
You can also check the AMT `70 1/2 Baldwin Motion Camaro kit, has a duel electric fuel pump like this one... However, I have the Replicas & Miniatures Holly Blue fuel pump and its has far better engraved detail than the AMT Baldwin pump IMHO. Just an FYI. -
I`m looking for a 1:25 scale `55 Chevy 150 Bel-Air sedan . I`m toying with the idea of building the Two Lane Black Top flip-nose `55 Bel-Air. Is the only build option I have is the AMT `55 kit. I do have an original old MPC `57 Chevy flip-nose kit. Thinking I can scavenge the flip nose part from it. Any advance advise or thoughts on this chassis swap out will be appreciated.

While sipping a cup of coffee and nibbling on my customary morning danish I stumbled across this article that I thought I`d share with all the Bow-tie enthusiast out there. What I accidentally found was a fully restored 1969 Baldwin Motion Camaro SS 454 LS-7. Yep..I said 4-5-4 cid. This is not a clone, tribute or fantasy car. It`s the real deal..documented.. bona ified `69 Camaro Baldwin Motion 454 car. It was ordered in early 1970 directly from Bladwin Motion. I`ve only seen and heard of the `69 ZL-1 427 Camaro`s; had no idea that a `69 LS-7 Baldwin Camaro existed. But, in truth I should not have found this totally unbelievable. After all back in the day Baldwin Motion was one of the handful of Chevy dealerships that were notorious for building wild custom ordered cars for their clientele if you had the $$$. For those that would like to know more about this ultra rare `69 Baldwin Camaro I`ve included a link: http://www.legendarymotorcar.com/inventory/1969-chevrolet-camaro-ss-baldwin-motion-1314.aspx Who knows maybe this rare gem will be the inspiration for a build. This Daytona Yellow `69 Baldwin Camaro LS-7 454 was outfitted fitted with desirable Winters Foundry aluminum heads and Winters Foundry dual plane aluminum intake manifold. The Motion performance options ordered from new go on from there including: -850 CFM carb -Phase III cam -Ducted Hood -4.88 heavy duty rear axle -Complete Schiefer clutch assembly -Deep oil pan with baffle and up rated pump -Traction bars and shocks -Dual electric fuel pump -Scatter Shield -Engine shut off -Air spoiler -Motion phase III CD ignition

Next release of Revell '70 Cuda; any update information?
69NovaYenko replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
A 1/25 scale replica of this venerable Mopar has been LONG over due. Revell`s 1/24 scale attempt at this car was sorely lacking in many respects. Revell`s newly tooled 1/25 scale replica of the `70 Cuda is a much better platform to build from...yea I know there are those who have issues/concerns with the newly tooled kit but; it`s a far sight better than the old MPC `70 Cuda annual kit...IMHO. Prior to the initial release of the stock `70 Hemi Cuda there was talk of the Sox & Martin kit being the next spin off from the new tooling and the third spin off would be a `70 "AAR" 340 Cuda. Well they have done the stock and Sox & Martin variants. So, after two years have come and gone its time for the AAR Cuda moment in the sun. In the words of John Fogerty 1985 song “Put me in coach I`m ready to play today.” But I sure Revell is aware that a “street stock” 'Cuda AAR would be a fairly simple addition to the kit tool. Just as they continued to develop derivatives of the '32 Ford Street Rod series over the life of that tool. It would be nice to see them incorporate further fine tuning of the body casting to address some of the minor errors, as part of engineering any additional variants of the kit. What upgrades should they include for the AAR 340 variant: 340 block with 3X2 intake setup AAR exhaust 340 AAR front chin winglets AAR rear deck spoiler AAR grille (they are different from Cuda) AAR lights driving lights AAR Trans Am exhaust with the fluted chrome tips Rear window louvers8.75" axle (a Dana 60 never was an option with the 340 nor the 383) Rear splash pan (the Sox &Martin kit already has the "blank" panel) And, the inclusion of the 727 Torqueflite transmission (in addition to the 4-speed) as well as a 440 big block with headers and stock exhaust systems (I know they have a very nice examples of both the 727 Torqueflite as well as the 440 big block in their existing tooling inventory) and they would have a second 2-1 kit bring to market. -

Did followup on the B.N.L Resin (Red Cherry Bomb style) and VCG resins leads. They both have nice sets of glasspack style mufflers. Will be ordering several sets soon. Thanks folks for the leads. -

I just peeked at my AMT `69 Olds 442 kit. I saw the Olds 455 forced cold air induction system (which is well executed IMHO) but not glasspack mufflers like the samples pictured above. However, the AMT kit has a nice pair of factory stock mufflers. Could you have been thinking of the Revell `72 Olds 442 kit that has the glasspacks. -

Yes, I have checked the Revell `68 Hemi Dart mufflers out . In fact the entire exhaust system (headers headers and glasspack mufflers) for 426 version is awesome! Wish some one cast the entire exhaust setup from that kit so I could get several copies for other future projects. -
A number of you may remember Glasspack performance mufflers. They were the long straight pipe style mufflers developed in the late 60ties thru early 70ties. Celebrated for their straight through flow which seriously reducing back pressure and increasing power to street rods and muscle cars. And, lets not fail to mention that unmistakably unique, deep, throaty, rumble they gave off at idle and the thundering powerful balls-to-the-wall roar when you tromped on the throttle. There were several manufactures of these style of mufflers including Cherry Bomb, Thrush, Smithy, Maganaflow, Competition Muffler etc. I was wondering if anyone cast mufflers similar to these: or the glasspack header mufflers.

Possible 1968-70 AMX from Moebius?
69NovaYenko replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Craig Breedlove has broken the land speed record an amazing five times and was the first to officially break 400 mph, and the first to break 500 mph and 600 mph. Breedlove bought his first car when he was only 13, and at 16 drove it in speed trials at the dry lakes of the Mojave Desert. After high school, Breedlove worked at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica as a technician in structural engineering, where he learned many of his design and engineering skills. Because of his land speed record and his clean cut all American boy persona,he became the television pitchman for Goodyear Tire commercials. His 600 mph speed record stood for five consecutive years- 1965-1970. See more at: http://www.automotivehalloffame.org/inductee/craig-breedlove/786/#sthash.9W4VVOjs.dpuf By the way the roof spoiler was designed with down force aerodynamics in mind and it worked . -
Possible 1968-70 AMX from Moebius?
69NovaYenko replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I may be a little late to this party but, my vote is for a Javelin hands down over ANY AMX. Now don`t get me wrong I have nothing against AMX`s. My brothers-in-law (who was given the nickname “Captain America”) campaigned a`69 AMX at the local dragway and owned a `70 AMX that he street raced back in the day. Both were wickedly quick and he kicked a lot of butts and won ALOTTA $$$ from fellow racers with both cars. He was the one that turned me on to Javelins. Because of him I owned a Matador Red base model `68 SST 343 Javelin and a Frost White `70 Javelin SST with the Rally Pack which included the Craig Breedlove Roof Spoiler, trunk spoiler, chin spoiler and 390 c.i.d. with Str-11 cross ram intake. That car was a street beast and don`t know how to pass up a gas station without dropping in. LOL It was very similar to this one I pictured: The AMX has seen the light of day several times as a re-pop in the pass years and or fairly reasonable in cost on the on-line auction block last time I looked. However, Javelins are a different story. So beyond my apparent biases for the Javelin I want to point out that this particular 1:25 subject has not been replicated since the original Jo-Han annual kits were released over thirty plus years ago. A 1968-1969-1970 Javelin or long over due to reissued. Even if it does not meet the expectations of some rivet counters (no slam intended) it would be better than what is available right now and that`s a tiny hand full of extremely high $$$ originals kits. Truthfully, I cannot wait to see a newly tooled Javelin, especially considering the high level of detail and excellent engraving they do today with separate chassis, interior, suspension, engine etc. It would be an invigorating and a refreshing change to see subject beyond Ford, Mopar and G.M. products. And, lets me not forget to mention a newly tooled Javelin would easily have potential for multiple variant spin-offs for other kits i.e. stock, drag strip, street racer, SCCA Trans-Am racing (i.e. Mark Donohue/ Peter Revson/Rodge Penske) even NASCAR with the addition of a few accessories and decals. By the way I would highly recommend Moebius consider including the "Breedlove Roof Spoiler" for it can be used on the 1968-1969-1970 Javelin as well as the 1968-1969-1970 AMX. -
70 Chevy Monte Carlo SS 454-Any One Got Info on It

Was casually reading the feature article on the on-line performance magazine Chevy Hardcore.com entitled "Nickey: Then As Now, The Place For The Ultimate In Chevy Performance". What caught my eyes was the mention of an individual who purchased a 2002 MOTIF ZL-1 Camaro and decided made it look like a Nickey Camaro of days gone by. In addition to the Nickey script and a bunch of the styling cues that Nickey used back in the day he painted the 2002 MOTIF ZL-1 Chevy big block YELLOW. The reference to a yellow engine block is made in the fourth paragraph from the top...see attached link: http://www.chevyhardcore.com/features/nickey-then-as-now-the-place-for-the-ultimate-in-chevy-performance/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=nickey-then-as-now-the-place-for-the-ultimate-in-chevy-performance "Well I was surprised to read that the Nickey performance blocks were not painted traditional Chevy engine red. Can anyone shed some light on this. Were Nickey performance big blocks truly "YELLOW". Does anyone out there have pictures. Inquiring minds what to know. www.chevyhardcore.com:.webloc
