  1. on the subject of detail ......... i recently read a post featuring a car with excruciatingly detailed parts in some places and very obviously overlooked basic fitting & finishing in others. i thought this detracted from the excellent work put into the areas which were finished so nicely. i understand trying a new trick here and there, but when the grounding steps are overlooked, it brings it all down. guess this really isn't a question afterall.
  2. sorry, but weathering is not a cover up for poor workmanship. if you get stuck on something, just ask. there's plenty of folks that will help you work through it. then the next one, and the one after that, ad infinitum ... all get better. you have all the tools & skills, don't give up!
  3. thanks. it looks like a factory machine weld to me. this is really an incredible amount of work going into this car. and research. as i often say about the builds on this forum: Amazing

  9. aha; finally got a working link: http://www.rbmotion.com/ a little confused what the OP is asking: real nuts & bolts of something which represents nuts & bolts? if you just want a casting, or to mix and match, Grandt Line makes 'em by the tree: http://grandtline.com/products/mrr/mrr%20details/augmentables.html
  10. i've got the AMT Beverly Hillbillies frame & Revell '32 sedan set aside for my straight eight project. not sure if the frame accurately portrays a '22 Oldsmobile, but that's what i'm going to believe until i hear different!
  11. http://straightlinemodeler.org/paintblack.html you don't need an airbrush. develop your "dry brushing" skills. http://www.finescale.com/~/media/import/files/pdf/1/0/e/dry-brushing.pdf dry pigments are very forgiving. don't let the pictures in the magazines intimidate you! and when you get something you like, spray it with an afixative (Testor's Dullcoat is good - someone will come along with one better). http://www.missing-lynx.com/rare_world/rw05.htm and rust is good, yes? http://www.rustall.com/

  22. i belong to a metric ton of internet forums. all different subjects of interest, and i can realistically say that there might be more model building in my day if i spent less time on the internet. i know there's a load of criticism out there - about everything! - but specifically how this forum is run (read = moderated). i don't know if these guys get paid, but even paying jobs can suck the life out of an individual. it has to be a labor of love to wade through all the posts and try to make objective calls continuously. i certainly couldn't do it. reading a specific topic which got shut down, yes, i had added my two cents also, i can honestly say it was done with neatness, dispatch, and alacrity. what more could we possibly expect from these guys? i say "good job" men!
