  1. I got a surprise at CVS. I stop by periodically to check their diecasts. Usually there's nothing interesting. This time they had something really great. It's a Welly Jeep/Willys truck in 1/24th. Looks pretty accurate. I put it right to work delivering a crate to Professor Jameson Hyde White.
  2. For comparison this is what a proper Ford dually looks like. https://www.ebay.com/itm/326486824170?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20250324083038%26meid%3D280788e055444075a16b818d1ae2bc96%26pid%3D101952%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26mehot%3Dpp%26itm%3D326486824170%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DWatchlistVariantWithMLR_BP%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p4375194.c101952.m162921&_trkparms=parentrq%3A1cfda1eb1960ab4fd7c0f197ffffec0a|pageci%3A870e1bd6-159e-11f0-8225-460cfaa89831|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage
  3. I'm guessing the chassis is the same one from Revell's Captain Hook wrecker? I have had the Monogram Bullnose Bronco, the MPC, and the Revell version. From what I remember, the 1/24 Monogram and the 1/25 Revell version were the same way, with the lower parts almost straight.
  4. I finished the MotoCompacto and posted it in All The Rest Completed. After seeing the pics blown up to screen size, I see some touchups are needed, but I'm tired.
  5. Love it, nice work! I looked at buying this kit, then came across the diecast at closeout price.
  6. Here is my quick and dirty scratchbuilt MotoCompacto. It's 1/24th scale and about the size of a quarter. I got a wild hare and had to build one after buying the Tamiya City Car which includes the original Motocompo as a bonus. The original was a tiny gas powered city bike and the new version is an electric city bike. I looked into it and the 1:1 electric bikes sell for around $1,000 at Honda dealers.
  7. No luck in finishing the Honda today. I put the last coat of clear on it and it wrinkled. Luckily, the whole motorcycle is about the size of a quarter so it only took few minutes of wet sanding to strip it. Here's a screengrab of a real one to show what they look like.
  8. I'm wondering how accurate the cab is. I have the remains of a Monogram F-350 that I dropped a long time ago. Maybe the cab and part of the flares could turn the 1991 F-350 into a 1983 or so?
  9. I've been trying out my scratch-building skills after watching a lot of Reels and YouTube videos. I started a 1/24th Honda MotoCompacto electric cycle yesterday and got it into paint this evening. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to wrap it up.
  10. I'm semi-incapacitated due to a couple of healing ribs. Who knew you could break ribs coughing? Another 3 weeks and we'll see how it goes. Because of that, I've had some free time. This week I cleaned the work area a little and am looking at ways to rearrange. I'm down to just the cutting pad, everything else is overflowing with stuff. I started several 'small' projects, including the AMT Parts Pack Motorcycles. Also dug out the Tamiya Honda City Cabriolet which is the perfect companion to the standard Tamiya City kit I painted a couple weeks ago. I also started the Italeri Range Rover, with an eye towards it being a restomod. Looking at the picture, I just realized they look like they were painted out of a Crayon box! Camel yellow, Vailant green, and Star Spangled Blue.
  11. I'll need to see one in person. I'm hoping the bed might be workable perhaps if it is made into a long bed version.
  12. I looked at one to see if maybe the bed had any kitbashing possibilities with other kits, but even the dually flares are incorrect.
  13. I sometimes buy diecast cars or kits to fill my collection and build them up for display. I'm not sure if they would be considered a model. Should they go in Under Glass or in Diecast Corner? They tend to be unassembled versions of the ones sold in stores, having about the complexity of the old unassembled promos that AMT sold as Craftsman kits. The only major difference is metal instead of plastic. This is an example. I used a Maisto 1/24 DOKA and did some mods.
  14. I came across this while trolling eBay and was first surprised at the price, but then I noticed the camper shell. I think this is the same one that came with the 1963 Ford F-100. As for the truck, I'm looking for bargains, not budget busters.
  15. Is there a tutorial available to show how to check your pictures, and also how to reduce them if needed? I looked the other day and didn't see anything.
  16. I actually have some good news to report! I finished my Cannonball entry. I also finished up a Maisto VW Double Cab Pickup that I started last year. It's weathered based on a couple of trucks I used to see running around Austin Tx. The roof rack is made from floral wire, and the truck features homemade decals. Since a parts truck needs a cargo, I built a Revell Porsche 911 engine as a just finished crate motor ready for shipping. Finally, there's the Rupp Minibike from the MPC Dodge truck kit.
  17. I'm declaring my build done! Not sure how, I usually don't finish until a panic influenced late November rush. I spent a couple days looking it over and didn't see any I forgot which is odd! So here it is. The boys' gear is laid out, ready to pack and go the second they get the call with the code word, "Gumball." Whoops, wrong movie.

  19. A few years ago a local used car lot bought a bunch of ex-Forest Service trucks and sold them locally. I still see some running around. I want to use the AMT OBS Chevy truck as a base and am looking for a company that makes spray paint for it. The color is Forest Service Green FEDSTD595 or FS34350. I found a commercial paint place about three hours away that can put it in touch up cans for $11.99, but UPS shipping adds another $30. I don't currently have an airbrush so I'm looking for a spray can. Does MCW do custom spray cans? I'm not seeing it on their page. The picture gives you an idea of the color and I appreciate any help.
  20. I pushed through and 'finished' my entry. Now I'm going to take a couple days and let it sit on the shelf at eye level to make sure I didn't forget anything.
  21. Thanks for the info on the decals, I have the kit but I've never opened it. I'll pull the minibike out and see how it goes together.
  22. A couple summers ago we did a road trip and passed through Winslow, Arizona. Has anyone done the flat bed Ford from the song yet?
  23. I don't care at all for Revell's chopped LUV or Courier releases, but I'd buy one of these just for the outboard motor!
  24. I worked on my Cannonball entry for an hour, forgot something, went into the house, forgot what I was looking for, watched TV for a few minutes, went back to the shop, forgot what I was working on, so worked on another project. Took off my detail glasses, took a drink, looked for glasses for five minutes. Found glasses right in front of me. That was my morning.
